So fed up with interdiction spam

  • They are clairvoyant and always know who you are, always find you.
  • They can teleport halfway across the system. If I see them 500Ls in front of me, throttle down and drop out of SC, *poof* there they are 1 second later.
  • The NPCs often just spawn right behind you the moment you get back into supercruise.
  • Most of the time they are under Magical Reputation Armour (TM): they belong to legit factions who will hate you for killing the pirates that they somehow failed to kick out. If at least these NPCs belonged to the actual criminal gangs I could kill them with impunity...
  • They never give up. You can submit and escape 20 times, they never realize they won't get the cargo.
  • Some even attack when I am through the mailslot at the destination, only to get blasted by the station in 3 seconds.
  • Searching for USS becomes nigh impossible when one of these is hunting you. Have fun trying to approach a High Grade Emission USS and being interdicted 20Mm before the goal...
  • Oh and that NPC just destroyed by the station as you were docking sometimes just respawns in the next system. Then you submit, let the police kill the NPC (not yourself because of Magical Reputation Armour), and the next system there they are again!
  • And to add insult to injury, every interdiction teleports you backwards...

For non-mission related NPCs, I have now resorted to dropping out of SC, boosting away out of range, when they are off the scanner, back to main menu and back into the game. At least the random NPCs won't persist through that, for now.

Cut throttle, wait for overshoot, initiate bait procedure.

Got to hate the cargo haul missions when they say someone has been sent to stop you! 'Poof' as if by magic they appear directly behind you! You can damage them but a few seconds later they are at full health again.

Just saw the same NPC again, for a 4th time, always mystically knowing where I am. This time it was when departing an unrelated starport in an unrelated system to buy some cargo for an unrelated mission. It was outside fighting against the police Vipers when I launched.

Perhaps if they would limit it to two interdictions per same npc per run.
I can get interdicted 6 times or more by the same npc.

In my own experience, high waking out limits you to one interdiction per npc per run. I've never had an npc attempt to interdict me again after either successfully evading his attempt once, or high waking out and back in. I've run loads of deliveries this last week in a Python, a T-9 and an Asp as well as flying all three ships with engineers cargo onboard and I have still never had a 'multiple' interdiction. They only happen when getting interdicted and just going back into SC in the same system.

Note - I'm not powerplay aligned so if that's the cause of the problem people are describing here fairenough. Other than that though, I just can't match what people are saying to any experience of the game I have had in over 9 months of playing it.

Interdiction spam.. yeees..

I had this a few times, and being Elite, i get- oh look- NOTHING BUT ELITES chasing me... P I T A![mad][mad][mad]

So like many have mentioned, you will get the same NPC chasing you... so i decided to "have some fun"...
Playing the "bait the NPC game" I was fuel scooping next to a star, and "sir inderdictalot"(sir for short) appeared..(no honestly i was scooping) in his elite Anaconda...ELITE- wow, i`ve never seen one of them before /heavy sarcasm

Ass to the sun, Sir flies behind me.. Sun 1 , 0...LOL
Next system, appeared, near the jump point, so ass to the sun - 0, sun 2
Same system, at a outpost(i was in my Python getting engineer "stuff"[they really love it don't they]), i sat at the dock, watched fly about, then stop and wait...
I click Launch- PEW PEW PEW goes , instant spawn 2 fed vipers, PEW PEW PEW from them, and the outpost- i join in, get the 200cr fine, and a 168k bounty off dead , a quick redock, pay fine, cash in.. off again.

0, me 1

A few systems later appears in SC, miles behind me (i know he WILL FOLLOW), because of the Costner rule "if you haul it, they WILL come... after you".
I drop into the Space port and wait(bait) next to the dock, about 200m from the toast rack.. SURPRISE, appears, see me and PEW PEW PEW... i had 4 pips to shield and 2 to guns(i WAS prepared).. thunk, thunk thunk go the starport guns, pew pew pew go the vipers, pew off me, 200cr fine for breaking the no fire zone, 168k bounty of , he is a such a nice npc to give me all this cash- oh yea, and engineering crap, and some cargo too(i ignore this and dock).

So onto the last port, into the system, along SC.. no (is he dead?>?)...
I drop into the space port, and he ports in behind me yelling "HAHAHAHAHAH"(clearly this game has drove him quite mad..).
So i bait him again.. pew pew BOOM, 200 cr fine, 168k bounty...
0, me 2

So the morale of the game is, yes you can play it, yes you can die(Elite Anacondas ARE tough), so play nice, use the stars(suns, eh?) and space ports. Outposts will usually do nothing at all, unless you "bait them".
Space ports have a ZERO tolerance policy for gun fire, even helping the fed can lead to several hundred creds of fine, but a LOT of bounty- be careful not to hit the feds- hit a fed, and you are RED!

Fun times, but me its boring being Elite, as you only get Elites sent after you, which is a shame. Unless you take on smaller missions and you get the odd harmless nutter facing down your guns, use liberal applications of PEW PEW lasers... also DAKKA!

Fly safe out there
If you haul it, they WILL come.. for you..

As op describes it really well.

I also will quit the game, due to insane amount of interdict spam. it kills my mood totally and any interested to login in to play. Yesterday i was interdicted like 20+ times, because i wanted to make some money, that is no fun at all.

Can we first go back to "being interdicted" is a kind of problem on the player side ?
We dont talk about boost run mine lay all sort of good stuff.
Simply go back to "Why suddenly there's a circle on my hud?"
It is easier to avoid playing the minigame completely than play to escape.

Why NPCs can initiate interdiction ? Because its few seconds behind you.
What if you back is facing... some thing like a hot ball?

-take up mission
-travel to target system and approach
-mission massage 'you get hunted'
-insta spawn behind you and getting interdicted
-submit and low wake because you have higher MLF
-repeat 20 times the last step until you approach the station

Why the hell should i leave the system of target after approaching? Why does the NPC don't realize, that he CAN NOT MASSLOCK ME and so never will get the cargo? Why does he continue the interdiction without any cooldown until i destroy him myself or highwake out just to return where i was?

This is a broken mechanic that needs to get fixed ASAP

OP is totally right to bring this point up. This can't brought up too often until it get fixed asap.

Annoying aren't they? Interdictions used to be good back in late beta when they were rare and mainly done by pirates that you could freely shoot. Today it's ridiculous as the OP and others have described. And can only assume it's like this way as there is little other interaction in the game other than interdictions: they're made so frequent to try and make the game seem like it actually has (interactive) content. Wish the devs would redo this mechanic and start by looking at how it was back in late beta (the real beta back in 2014).

You're right, high waking out of system and back in will typically 'break' the interdiction cycle.

The problem is that it's an unrealistic and time consuming way of doing things, simply forcing two unnecessary hyperspace jumps for no good reason. It would be much better gameplay if you could 'race' your attacker to the station by making use of the game mechanics (that don't seem to apply to NPCs) such as submitting, boosting and low waking again while your interdictor waits for their FSD to cool down and then re-enters SC quite some way behind you, and slower than you making it a challenge for them to re-interdict.

i couldnt agree with you more...i used to love playing this game and i was making slow but steady progress, but now i lose more than i gain

- - - - - Additional Content Posted / Auto Merge - - - - -

i have tried and tried to keep playing but im just sick and tired of being able to do nothing due to the interdictions...since 2.1.4 i have died 11 times...the same amount in a couple of months that i gained in 2 years of playing, its ruined the game

Interdictions?? hm...
Throttle back Submit..4pips shield boost boost low wake.. (DINGDONG sm1 at the door hee hee) save game to menu..
Oh dear no-one there ;) ;)
Oh well where was I
Lock destination supercruise dock ;)

Considering how often this comes up, and how integral to the game interdictions are, I find it strange that FD doesn't address the issue. We all know that the interdiction logic is lame and has become ever more annoying and illogical, yet it remains while other things get fixed and balanced. I just hope they have plans they aren't sharing yet, because it really does drag the game down as it is.

I think the idea was to emulate a player pursuing you. Though yea, it doesn't end up working much that way with the magic they need to use in order to make them persistent. I'm not a fan with being interdicted 7 times in a row either. You have to jump away, win the interdiction or kill the NPC to make them go away... Or log out.. though sometimes you rejoin on the seed that has AIPursuit=1 still.

I like the idea, but the implementation becomes less than fun at times.

It got to the point with me, that I stopped playing a couple of months ago. I came back recently, to check things out and nothing has changed. Still the all seeing, all knowing NPCs that cheat and yes, they do cheat. Despite what some may say.

Eh... Other than when/where they are generated, it still isn't obvious to me where they cheat. The NPCs that have Engineer Mods are quite noticeable though for sure.
