Make the possibility of alien contact be really painful

How about if the Aliens had weapons and shields we have never seen before? Something totally different than our weapons and shields? Something that would force us to adjust our weapons and tactics so that fights against the aliens are not easy.

Yes, and do it before module storage. So we all have to buy new ships or throw away our modded equipment.

bad idea but I think alien technologies should be discoverable by players and maybe later we can craft them.

I fully expect this, and that the craftable alien tech will be superior to human tech... so you spent all that time midding your ships - now do it again with the new alien tech. #skinnerbox

Well tbf whatever the Devs do is going to be wrong in most peoples eyes, There will be the AI has ruined my game crowd saying how op the Aliens are and that they're going to unistall the game (again[rolleyes]) then there will be the crowd that will moan if they are not the Thargoids. Then there will be the group that moans, well, because they need to moan!

I'm looking forward to the whole first contact stuff hopefully they wont make the point of contact too painfull...

Or just bringing back some of the combi-weapons which were found on some NPCs when 2.1 was initially released. Railguns with the ROF of multicannons is one example.

I think it funny and in some cases predictable at some of the responses but I was just wondering how much more of a threat they will be? Maybe we are the threat? Maybe AI will be first to encounter/provoke the alien threat? Their reaction could already be very well scripted and we human cmdrs are little more than spectators?

How will people view the normal AI after the aliens, will the AI rally for humanity or form a pact with them?

But if it's a cmdr or two that screw things up there is no additional risk for them? I guess it'll all be reward based ie heaps of credits for stolen alien tech no matter that we've been plunged into conflict?

Bad idea.

I see no reason why it should be different to getting killed by a usual NPC.

As long as FDev makes the aliens capable enemies there'll be enough people dying and crying in the forum afterwards anyway.

I hope there is more to these aliens and their bases than just another set of AI controlled ships. I'm talking super hard ships to kill, strange anomalies when they appear, magnetic interference, gravity turns upside down. Please don't just be re-modelled ai ships with slightly harder ships to kill !

I think the first person to encounter them will go down in galactic history as well as in their ship and a nice rebuy screen. That will be quickly followed up with a post on these same message boards, in words to the effect. THEY ARE BACK, and mad as hell and not going to take it any more. (OK enough movie quotes), but still the first person should get a mention in GalCom and the rest of us will be anxious to see them also, and then quickly regret we did :)

If it were an alien event it should have concequences for unprovoked attacks by the fool hardy or over confident.

Like say a clear save, then it would really be a force to be reckoned with and not taken lightly.

The mechanic could be something like a data virus removing all traces of you from the weak human infrastructure.

Then you end up in a starter system in a side with the Base line credits....

How about some fellow in an alien costume shows up at your house and kneecaps you with a shotgun? Sounds about as fun as what you're proposing. Them having OP weapons and ships? Sure thing. Wiping a save?

How old are you?
However, I imagine a trek of ships towards Jaques like in Battlestar Galactica. (please watch it, 2004 show)
Gathering fuel and food CGs en masse for a long time while ship after ship dies from the attack of the aliens.
Total devastation is what I think humanity deserves but it´s maybe a bit to much for this game.

54 did you think I was about 12?

Watched both BSG along with heaps of other sci-fi and read loads of sci-fi recently the ark royal series humanities first encounter with aliens as they expand in the galaxy and currently the empire corps series the collapse of an earth centred empire.

Ive worked in flight simulation for the last 30 odd years, so the simulation side of ED is what interests me more than the fun gamey options.

Just to give you all an idea of who is behind this daft topic - yes I'd like the game to be less easy but I realise a lot of folks would disagree and wonder what people would like to see of the alien menace if it is that.

Hehe, a Clear Save... Interesting concept.

One might argue it's realistic, but not many could stomach such an insane loss.
After word of such occurrences would spread, I don't think many would want to venture out and fight. Or even undock. Or even log-in.

On the "new Bubble" idea...
Basically also interesting concept, but I'm sure alot of Players wouldn't welcome the prospect of being in the exact same System (or 2-3) with the entire rest of Players.
Players loving to blow others up, however... I'd reckon it'd be like Xmas for them every single day. Soooooo many targets, 24/7 :D
