Dear FD. The hunt begins on the 28th - but ends a few hours later

What an utter crock of crap, do you even know how this game works? did you know the servers are CLOUD based, they run on the Amazon web services, it can never be truly a multiplayer experience, to play with your friends you have to privately matchmake and then all jump into the same instance within the system your in. This is the same as being in a private group, if anything you free up bandwidth, the NPC's which are being chased down and hunted in this event all live on the same database. it makes no difference open/ private / solo.

If that's the case, and all of the characters featured in this special event and others (such as Salomé) are all NPC's and can be interacted with in Open, Private and Solo, then I must be mistaken. If these special events with Frontier-controlled characters are visible regardless of how you play then there's no issue. [smile]

I was just making a comment based on one of the developers saying this:

To clarify.

There was an issue with the first phase of the hunt, this latest clue should help solve that.

Elements of the hunt will require you to be in open, but you will have multiple chances to get the clues yourself.

*lol*

Wait...

So after "Barnacle-Gate" FDev actually repeated that exact same mistake again? Or even intentionally locked up content to a specific Mode?
Haha...

My god. These guys...
I'm so glad I learned my harsh lessons on these riddles and phantom chases a long time ago.
Painful those lessons were. But in retrorespect invaluable.

Happy gank-fest all, deep in your heart you know Frontier loves them. Always have :D

PS.
Pretty much all sounds like "It's a Trap!" , doesn't it?

Oh yeah. Piracy general unrewarding so if people would be willing to do piracy over ganking there is really no point.

But at the same time while this has messed with piracy as well why do people keep ignoring that cops now show up?

I've played in open twice.
First time, the first commander I saw ran away.
Second time I was attacked leaving a station, and had to high wake to escape.

The open community is dead in the water without some functioning crime and punishment system.

(I don't mind being attacked, loved PvP in other MMOs because it made sense, and was limited to places that made sense, and anyone wanting to PvP outside those spaces would pay the penalty...in this game? High security systems are just as dangerous as anarchy. It's stupid.

The current system is just nuts. Just imagine what would happen in real life when economic damage is being caused by a random party; there would an increase of security to stop this from happening (think of the pirates near the coast of Somalia; a coalition was sent there to secure the area). Ingame barely anything happens and the PvP-players can just go on and on in the same system without the system security becoming an decent thread.

The current system of bounties has to change to make it more realistic. Make it a bounty you cant get rid of, and make sure it's applied in all systems of the superpower (so you get a bounty in all empire systems, or anything). Also make it that a killed player can place bounty on a wanted person for a x-duration which can be claimed over and over; (max 90% of rebuy value to avoid farming by friends).

Personally i hatePvP (long live Mobius \o/ ), but it needs to have a place in this game, though it needs to have proper risks / consequences attached to it.

now brace yourself for git-gud replies in 3...2...1...

While we are at realistic remove FTL travel make the game open only etc..

If you want to argue for better punishment systems that's fine but basing your argument on realism in a game is so stupid. In 1600s the golden age of piracy there were plenty of pirates around who had free rein for quite some time.

Ah, but they're not NPCs, they're CMDRs. Someone at FD is playing these characters.

Could certainly be argued they should be NPCs and show up in all modes of play though.

Yeah. And what they do?
Fly around aimlessly, maybe scan the player who's being shot at. LOL! :D

Sure. And if these poor players who aren't being defended by the incompetent cops have a 'stray shot' suddenly they become 'massively OP' and kill the poor player 'without any chance'. Its funny: how people rate the cops seems to be very dependent on who the cop is shooting at. Someone else: never good enough. The player? Always way too difficult. :D

They should have op weapons so they can not be ganked.

Ah, I here the 'god-modding' crowd incoming. If we dont want that cmdr to be killed, we should have protected him. We dont, because we love whining online more than doing something meaningful in-game. Alright, so be it. Let this have dire consequences. :)

Don't worry type 9 guy, I'll protect you! What's that? I'm not instanced with him? Well then.

The debate will turn on Liberty vs Justice.
"they do this because the game mecanics allows it": that's their liberty. ok...
Now they are ruining the game of many other cmdrs (a lot really). This ask some justice...
They are whining about combat log: they created this by attacking without any excuse.
they whined about the "silent": they got heat and they are whining about it now (but are the first to use it...)
Nobody wants to play with them, so please Frontier, it's time to give justice to the 99%

My point was that a hot zone will always attract security forces, and when those forces are being attacked stronger forces will be sent. While i agree that not everything can be made realistic, some parts can be improved by making it more realistic (and in my opinion should be). What would be your objection to this (i am genuine curious)? It creates a dampening effect on extreme situations (extreme player killing will result in extreme security), and maybe even a challenge for the PVP-players. Currently a wing of dedicated players has nothing to fear of any security force, and i doubt they feel "hunted" at all.

Making the game open-only? Sure, just make it balanced in such a way that enough customers enjoy it or you'll end up with less funds to further develop the game. Continuous player killing, imho, doesn't do the game any good and will result in less players or at least polarization of the player base. I would expect that a event which is made possible by a lot of research, time and effort, could not be influenced by PvP in such a way that it comes to a grinding halt.

offtopic; rather then stating some else his perception "is stupid", you can also just give your own arguments on a civilized way. We are all adults here, and i love to be convinced of your opinion by arguments.
