UAs, Barnacles and other mysteries Thread 8 - The Canonn

Ok, so I have a theory. Probably one that's been thought of but the speed this thread moves at you'd need 3 sets of eyes to keep up. Ayways:

Kohl (Red Trader - Carries Fish): M class star and one friend always lies.

Dillon (Yellow Asp): Rocky Planet at Latitude 34, Binary Pulsars

Granger (Cobra): Unknown as of yet.

Maybe this is all the info so far, maybe not but it is all that is needed for this idea. Kohl is a double bluff.

A lot of people suggested Kohl is a Red Herring (Red Trader, Fish). So if that's the case, HE is the liar and we sould disregard the M class star. Naturally this will have to wait until 2100 for confirmation but it's food for thought?

There's nothing poorly managed about this at all.

We already knew the actual alien stuff was coming in 2.2 and this one is just the teaser they didn't explicitly show at gamescom.

They are giving out clues with riddles to solve and that's all we gotta do.

The people who were actually waiting for interactable aliens, and at the start of the hunt to boot are purely delusional. It's like always, people jumping on whatever opportunity they find to crap on FD.

So what the contacts appear only in open? I never play in open but I jumped in my cheap but cool imp-eagle with enhanced thrusters and had fun, winging with various commanders. Never saw a thing, no contacts. Wasn't in the right instance. Big deal. I had fun talking to people and exchanging the excitement (and the disappointment) of every asp that turned out to be another player looking for clues.

It's going very interesting for me personally. We get to see a lot of players getting out of their comfort zone and interact with each other. Over at the Canonn Discord, it's an all time high and people are having fun. Frustrated, yes but also having a laugh more often than not.

This is the best a game company can do without shoving a heavily scripted and crafted story down everyone's throat. They devised a treasure hunt and they even gave an actual timetable so people can have a daily life but contribute when they can. They already know all the clues will be shared and discussed online so there's no problem in that regard either. It's the players as always who chose to create their own fantasy in their head with whatever epic scenario they could think of and are mad at FD for not delivering the bells and whistles.

Thank you.

I really don't think it's the best they can do. This entire thing is off-limits to Australia as a whole because FD's instancing system is so poor. Before we've even had a chance, we just got given FD's middle finger and silence. It seems like they not only didn't try, but actively avoided doing things that would have mitigated the problem over the past year.

This is a perfect example of how to not bring anything to the discussion or scientific progress. Along with the other people whining about this or that, it's a game, get over yourselves and have fun with what we have (which is a product of a lot of peoples hard work)

Anyways...

Has anyone brought tobacco to Mcmullen Vision yet to confirm if trading to the station triggers anything? I'll haul a few tons out there if noone has yet.

No, this whole "Hunt" is a perfect example of how not to bring anything to the conversation.

and yes, that's the point. There's no where to deliver the tobacco.

Yes according to the thread these have been tried but folk who tried them could see nothing :

- Massagetae
- Chertan
- HR 1812

We know of no other McMullen Vision

Ok, I'm totally confused about all this. Currently, I am at Kippax, Nagali in an FAS, for I was led here by a new CG suddenly popping up and I joined it (was binary and said something about fish). Time left was 1:41mins, but suddenly it said "fail" and was gone. Meh. This is definitely not what I had expected for 28th. What's up? Time to go home now? [noob]

Awesome analogy. As long as you don't skip the Huey Lewis and the News one.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to return some videotapes. :D

Wait, wait... The Asp wasn't even at Pic Tok?!?

You know, I couldn't participate in that last part of the hunt, but since realised that so many players were gonna follow the instructions of the CG, I decided to go hang out at Kippax, watch for griefers, and send people to Pic Tok with instructions on what they were looking for.

So I wasted an hour of my time before work trying to be a community minded and helpful player, and all I actually did it directed a couple of dozen other players to waste their time?

Seriously?

Hm.. i read the hints again "One of my Friends always lies, the system has a single m-Class Star" from Kohl
"Rocky planet at Latitude 34 near a binary pulsars"

if i combine it correctly, it should be a rocky planet at latitude 34 near a single m-Class star"

good thinking.
But if he always lie..then maybe it ist more a
icy sun/planet at longitude 34 near an m class star?

Guys, I think we're digging so deep into speculation that we're not sticking to what we really know. So, what do we know?

1) Logan Kohl (Red Trader) told us "One of my friends always lies. The system has a single M-class star." He also offered a second clue in exchange for narcotics.
2) Mahina Dillon told us "I visited a rocky planet at lattitude 34 near binary pulsars." He also offered a second clue in exchange for tobacco.
3) According to this Reddit comment https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDange...ald_article_in_presuppport_gamma_from/d6ybkdo (copy/pasting findings here:
  • "The Red Trader Was Carrying Fish During The Incident
  • THE ASP IS YELLOW
  • A Cobra is due to arrive at 21.00
  • The T9 Pilots Route Takes Them To System CAIL
  • Dillon never carries cargo
  • someone who wasn t carrying cargo will arrive in apademak at
  • A trader called Kohl will arrive in CAIL at 10.00
  • GRANGER DOESNT CARRY CARGO. HE HANGS AROUND APADEMAK"
WHAT OTHER CLUES DO WE HAVE? At this point the thread is an absolute mess and we need to reground ourselves in concrete fact.

To me, this whole thing sounds like one of those logic puzzels; a couple of guys giving off statements, one is lying, and by what they're saying you have to deduce which one is right and which one is lying.

Sadly yes. You're not the only one wound up by it, trust me. I am too.

Following instructions in mysteries like this shouldn't deliberately lead players in the wrong direction. It is the clues that should be 'lies', if one character is lying, not locations and times for the next puzzle piece.

Having said that, don't let it sour your taste on the whole thing. FD is learning when it comes to these things. This mystery will last a while yet, so some good bits could easily come along soon.

I'm sorry but I disagree with you.

Not all people 'complaning' about are doing it because of SDC or the 'open' stuff. I have been quite active the last days solving the first riddles and keep up / helping others. Now, knowing it is going to be in open, it happens that I can't just play it. I tried tonight, with a few people, I got disconnected every time I jumped in/out of SC because of the connection in this country. Every time I had to restart - rewing - replot - reboost - rejump - and travel the distance to wherever I was going just because the instance is full, the server is busy or because of [redacted].

Even if I want to, I just can't. Not to metion meeting a random cmdr from another country, hehe, I can't even see my fellow aussie friends in the same system if they have joined someone else's instance.

Open is my comfort zone, crowded open is unusable at the moment, at least for me.

I was forced to refuel near Pic Tok,
that journey took me to HSIE,
which in fact has the Pic Tok party
as an active minor faction in it.
There also is an observatory.

I think the "Pic Tok" clue was a red herring. Here in these messages we are told that Dillon never carries cargo and someone that wasn't hauling cargo would arrive at Apadamak at an unspecified time. Since we were already told that Granger doesn't carry cargo AND he hangs around Apadamak, we are left to conclude the two aforementioned clues (highlighted light-blue in my quote) were referring to Dillon. That means that Dillon followed the original directions all along - the only difference was he followed the time as denoted in the CG (which wasn't given in the initial clues).

I'm at McMullen Vision but there's nothing here, as others have pointed out. I'm tempted to take the Tobacco to Pic Tok and see if he's there. We will have to see. Otherwise, we'll have to strap in and wait for Granger in his White Cobra to give us the final clue at 21:00 UTC.
