Feds against slavery, so they kill slaves?

Indeed it is a failing of the Patrons that the economic and social conditions of their charge are such that massive numbers of the clients and citizens end up in debt they cannot service.

Imperial Slaves merely pay off their debts, Productive citizens can contribute to the state, which should they focus on decreasing and which should they increase numbers of.

I ask again

Attacking Imperial ships over currently policy is one thing, but over something that happened 700 years ago?
That is a disturbing rationalisation on actions.

Remembering that
"The Federation was formed circa 2240AD as a direct response to the colonists on Tau Ceti 3 ignoring Earth's demands to stop killing the native wildlife "

Should they by the same logic now attack Tau Ceti for those actions from 2240AD?

Comprehension not a strong point for imp's?
You lot wiped out an entire sentient species to secure a planet. It's a bit fresh of you to now be upset that some of your cattle is being killed.

You're not good people, nobody cares about snuffing a few of you out.

And Humans wiped out almost all life on Tau Ceti, so how can you be upset that other Humans did the same thing somewhere else.

One action cannot be wrong and the other permissible surely?

Please explain to me in simple terms why.

If one can be guilty of the actions of people from hundreds if not over a thousand years ago, then how long is your list of crimes?

The cretins on Tau Ceti aren't a massive component of the Human bubble. They're insignificant.
You're not being attacked because of what you did. But what you did makes your cries of brutality now rather hollow. Your entire society is founded on filth.

Pretty annoyed, and i wish the Feds would come up with a decent excuse for murdering us around our home systems...

How about Zac Hudson says:

The "Cretins" of Tau Ceti were the first Humans colonists, so earthling, i.e. the origin of the Human bubble.
The scions of those that settled Tau Ceti are likely found everywhere.

"what you did " What did I do?

Once again, how are people guilty of things from hundreds of years ago.
Consider what that would mean if it was true.

Your argument doesn't make sense. Clearly the Imperial inbreeding has damaged your ability to form a cohesive thought.

I'm sensing you might have some viewpoints on the empire. I'm not sure though. I could be mistaken. :)

Thanks for all the replies and the discussion, it's (mostly) been surprisingly civil. Allow me to post a wall of text answering and commenting on some of your posts.[big grin]

Good story OP. First off, naughty you for dealing in slavery! Secondly, put your Python up until you've earned enough for at least 2-3 rebuys.

I never said I actually had slaves in my hold[squeeeee] They are simply not that profitable, and I prefer missions and mercenary work over trade.

Wait, so you got a boatload of credits for a tiny amount of effort from the CG and already poured it so deep into a ship you're left with one rebuy?

The game encourages risk takers and some players like to take more risks, than others: Sometimes they loose. I would bet the OP does not have a fall back ship?

2 rebuys to be exact... And I wasn't planning on doing anything really dangerous till I had saved up for 3 or 4... I was in what I thought was safe space [blah] Arry is right, I decided to take a massive risk and it has paid of, even with the unforseen destruction of my Python before the new ship smell had even worn off. I currently have an Asp Explorer, an Imperial Courier, and a Type-6 stashed away in Couper Hub, so if needs be I can stash my Python there and go back to any of those.

Just out of curiosity, did he actually scan to check whether you were a 'slave trader' or not.

No he did not... He's the villain here :x He merely typed (copy-pasted most likely) his message and opened fire...

If I may bring real politics into things, I, as a white South African, still get negative comments about Apartheid, which ended when I was 2 years old. People don't rationalise these things at all, I'm pretty sure it happens all over the world... Many times history gets brought up as an excuse for current conflicts and hostilities.

Comprehension not a strong point for imp's?

Again, linking it to real politics, are all white South Africans bad people due to a horrific government before we were born? Are all British people bad due to the British putting Boer families in concentration camps and letting thousands starve and die of nutrition during the Anglo-Boer war? Are all Germans bad (No need to elaborate there). I personally see people that bring up the past to hate on present groups of people really blind and stubborn. Apply your words to a group of people in the real world, it sounds pretty scary...

Some of you brought up some interesting points, again, thanks for the discussion. I hope it will continue...[up]

Federals? Against slavery? Ha-ha! Its like "bees against honey" :)

PS Come to Robigo. You will see many missions about delivery of slaves. And you cannot take any of them without "friendly" status with federation.

They're Federally aligned factions, rather than the federation its self.

Today I got interdicted by an NPC as I was flying around in my (Brand new) Python. Sure, no problem, I take quick care of the poor sap with my massive new weapons... All of a sudden a FDL jumps in and types the following (paraphrasing, can't remember the exact quote): "Imperial slave traders don't deserve to live. Prepare to die." And then he proceeds to vaporise me in a couple of seconds. Besides being rather livid at the fact that this happened one jump from the A. Lavigny-Duval's home system, and the 6.7mil credit insurance payout (I now only have 10mil left at this stage), I am also quite confused... Obviously this guy doesn't give a rat's ass about slaves, because he has just brutally murdered 128 (tonnes of cargo, so it must have been quite a few more people) Imperial Slaves (Who are treated with honour as it plays an important part of Imperial culture). Pretty annoyed, and i wish the Feds would come up with a decent excuse for murdering us around our home systems...

P.S. I prefer open because these special cases are rare, and I enjoy playing with other CMDRs, the cameraderie during the recent Imperial Warship CG was amazing...

The slavery mechanic needs a bit of work.

1. Imperial slaves need to get proper transportation. Not as cargo, but as passengers. When this was recently proposed to Sammarco he seemed to agree and like this idea, but did not want to promise anything at this stage.
But with the future addition of a passenger mechanic this will become entirely possible.

2. We need a proper slave liberation mechanic in the game. Elite's universe and fluff is very suited for this kind of gameplay. FD should jump on this train and implement it asap I feel.
This could feed into community goals and Powerplay too and of course into regular missions.
We need something like a secretive Underground Railroad organization to deliver freed slaves to. I think this would result in a proper gameplay loop many cmdrs would enjoy to take part in. I certainly would.

Of course this freeing mechanic would not be appropriate in the case of Imperial Slaves. Imperial slaves would not be helped by this as their slavery has a very different social background and most of them should have very strong ties to their Imperial community because of this. Fleeing from the Empire would not be attractive to them as it would not improve their financial situation and they would in general not want to completely abandon their Imperial families.

It would be great if the game would better acknowledge the fundamental differences between the two types of slaves that are in the game.

The empire has voluntary slaves that have rights and will be freed when their debts are paid off.

The federation makes every single one of its citizens an unwilling slave of the corporations, and offers no way out for those that had no luck with the system other than a life of crime. Also, drugs are illegal.

But in all likelihood in many cases this will never happen. It is a well known mechanic that very often leads to lifelong indenture for the poor.
This does not have to be unpleasant for the slave per se, but it can be, depending on the master.
