What ED is Missing

I think they are connecting the dots. The missions are a great overhaul that communicates better the impact of your actions compared to the static list. There's no point adding lore for each system because things chsnge and are dynamic. Landing on planets is connected to everything as well. Engineering is connected to everything as you do other stuff to get mats for upgrades. Soon we have new types of mission and tourism is likely going to be loosely connected to exploration. The cg stuff is great and is connected to developing lore and story. Yes it needs work but on the whole its going the right way.

I've said it before in other threads, but I'm running on the theory that a future season of Elite Dangerous will be almost nothing *but* lore and fluff and integration of all the external books and such into the game.

Lore in each system.

How that system came to be. What happened there, what should I see in that system? Monuments from battles? Specific landmarks that aren't available in other systems? I think some handcrafting in the human bubble needs to start happening. Now at the capitals and a few systems surrounding Sol you can see the system description, but that's it. Give us a bit more :)

Not to bring Star Citizen into this, but already you can see that they have stories/lore to each of their systems. The little things like that give you so much to do/see.

I understand that not all systems could be handcrafted because I'm sure there's 500+ that are colonized. But I think the ones with over 1 billion people should have some hand crafted sights to see. I could spend HOURS researching and looking at that kind of stuff.

+1 for the OP.

Even if they just spread nav beacons around with lore attached to them at sites I would enjoy it. Give us SOMETHING to discover.

Hell even missions to visit and find certain nav beacons would be cool.

Will be hard to compare the 2 games, ED and SC. Basically due to the fact that SC is PC only. You can do a lot more without having to gimp your game for the consoles. Which happened with both ED and NMS. SC is the only one left, and if it announces a console version, you can bet it will fall as hard as NMS did on the PC. Luckily FD didn't have a huge Pub destroying it further.

It does need more lore , I agree.

The wierd thing is there is tones and tones of lore for elite , most of it is hidden or never mentioned outside of GalNet or books.

Lore is law , without it may as well not play a video game about ships and play shapes instead

Each system should be like a Mario Bros level and you can't reach the next system until you pass it. By the time you reach system #100 you should be level 30 at least and can take on the really strong bosses. But you have to redo each system/level to go back and get them to complete the story.
.. just.... no

The Alliance has no comment at this time.
Thank you.

I think some of you are misinterpreting my meaning of "story". I don't mean like a single player story.

I mean the story of the galaxy. The history.

As I've said, the Tourist Beacons they're adding into 2.2, & the work they're doing with Drew, I think will definitely enhance the amount of lore we have immediate access to within the game itself.

Not quite.

Tourist beacons are just going to be an interresting blurb about why the CMDR who discovered it found it interesting. (If these are also going to exist for known lore-y ingame locations like Achnear or Lave, then okay, that'd be neat.)

And Drew's work is external to the actual game, as wonderful and groundbreaking as his novel will surely be.

I do agree a few systems should have some handcrafted assets. Founders system and empire capital and federation capital are rather samey around the stations.

Well, on the bright side, some of this is coming in 2.2 with the new station interiors, plus I imagine atmospheric planets will *have* to include some hand-crafted assets....(I'm still waiting to see how they'll procedurally generate the surface of an inhabited planet, with cities and things - if they pull that off that will be a lifetime achievement!)
