Community Event / Creation Elite Dangerous - The Return of the Cobra - A Short Film

I have recieved the logo from Kris and its incredible...I will get to work on the screensaver and get it up for everyone to download.

Thanks again Kris this is awsome :D

Nearly there i have had it completed once.... but i have an annoying line on the right hand side of the logo on the black background...Trying to crop it just slightly to remove it...Looks so cool though :)

Anything I can do? Might be easier on my end?

Hi Kris...
Its an annoying line just on the right of the logo whist rotating Im using a fullscreen black background so its definatly just on the edge of the anim which is smaller than the background...At least im pretty sure its on that..

If it is and you to rectify then that would be great !!

Update !!
Hmmm it may not be on the anim Kris...a trial on my site backgound doesnt show it...Im confused now

No doubt this will get lost in the comments but I thought it were excellent.. Whilst minor in comparison to the whole, the part in the space station traffic control was superb.

Bravo!

Many thanks. It's funny, but the traffic control section was a last minute addition. I wasn't sure how to link between the station exit, and the shot where it leaves the landing bay.

But it just popped in my head and I started it early evening and I was working through until about 8a.m. the next day to bring it all together. I'm really glad it worked though, and glad it was liked.

When it came to editing it all together, I woke my missus up at about 3a.m. with a mini script for the station traffic controllers voice and thrust a microphone up to her mouth. I think she did quite well all things considered!

Would just like to agree with this. The touch back to the original elite graphics this brings to the sequence is fantastic and sent tingles through me. I'll be saving the link and using it as a remediation example with my students...;)

I discovered the posted vid on the night of the Kickstarter finishing, just a few minutes before it ended. Really well done.

Excellent video, brought a smile to my face.

And Goosebumps and a shiver and...and....oh man that was AWESOME!

LOL,

no... there is another...

I am working away on a few ideas with Jon Bluestone (the guy who created the technical designs for the Cobra seen in the video). We've got some great ideas coming together, and I think the Elite community will appreciate them.

I'll be sure to post updates when they start to take form! Obviously, these things take time to create, but I'm a fast worker, so hopefully not too long!

Really glad you enjoyed the first one though! Many thanks!

Oh, I used Lightwave 3D 11 for modeling, animating, lighting and texturing. It is the software that is/was used on Star Trek Voyager, Battlestar G, and many many others.

Don't forget Babylon 5 which made it famous :)

Forgot to say well done and very much enjoyed your video :) Used to use LW my self. Still my fav 3D app. Even though Modo is pretty cool. Always loved LWs lens flares. Can't beat them.

Absolutely... I didn't mention Babylon 5 because the CG in that looks so dated now, but in its time it was amazing, ground breaking! Also, the first series was done in Lightwave on Commodore Amigas no less.

It's funny you should mention the lens flares though. I sparked a little debate on the Lightwave forums about the need for the lens flares to be updated because of this video. Some things I wanted to do I couldn't because of some limitations. Lightwave lens flares were cool (still are in many ways) but they haven't been updated along with everything else in Lightwave for a number of years so are starting to show their age.

To see what I mean, and how far technology has progressed, check out this video (skim through it unless you are reeeaally interested lol)... In fact, the best bit to see what they are doing, watch from 2 minutes in to just after the 3 minute mark.
SIGGRAPH TALK on Physically-Based Real-Time Lens Flare Rendering

Give me some of that, and I'll be super happy!

Most lens flares are now done at post in compositing software. I didn't have the luxury of time to do that in this video, so had to make work arounds. It still looked ok though.

Anyway, I'm talking like a geek, so I'll shut up :)

Thank you for watching, and really glad you enjoyed it!

Oh dear...

I'm guessing I'm not the only one, but I find myself watching this over and over. I've decided to ration myself to once a day. It just makes me smile like a Cheshire cat...

I even fired up my near dormant DA account to go look at Jon - Wowzers

I forgot to mention this link too

A little compilation of Dev diary footage, nicely tied to the Joby Talbot's exquisite H2G2 theme. I hope entreri100404 is here somewhere.
