I have played since 1.4 and I have more credits than most people

My assets are at 1.425 Billion Credits.
600 Million credits were earned by turning in a combination of bounties and doing A to B to A trading runs.
130 Million credits earned in the Moria CG
I have been playing since 1.4

What exactly should I discuss?

I've reset my game save seven times.

Wow, 7 times!

That is something I think is much more interesting to discuss than the op's topic, whatever it is.

I have considered resetting many times, but I just can't bring myself to do it.
And you did it seven times.

What where your motivations?

My assets are at 1.01 billion. Liquid cash is at 259 million. Have "A" rated Cutter, "A" rated Courier, "A" rated iEagle, and a somewhat "A" rated Clipper for mining.
450 million credits were earned before 2.0
460-ish million credits were earned between 2.0 and 2.1
effectively 0 credits were earned since 2.1 dropped (doing engineers stuffs)
I have been playing since... Bronze access? I got in soon enough to get the freagle.

Just finished modding my Cutter, I'll probably not bother earning more cash until my other ships are sufficiently modified.

Guess that a meta discussion about your goals in Elite Dangerous, original, current and future can be seen as within the topic of this thread.

The reason for my reset is to participate in the Outlander challenge; outfit a Sidewinder, fly out and join a new life in the new Colonia bubble. So far it's been a blast....

Since Gamma I have deliberately been curtailing how much money I acquire over time, to avoid the situation where money becomes meaningless. These days I give a lot of it away in donations.

It took me 18 months or so to afford a decent Python. And now the Python and Sidewinder are the only ships I own - the only ships I want to own.

Motivations have been different for almost each reset up until more recently.

1st Reset: I'd decided to participate in one of Aisling Duval's community goals for freeing slaves. It was the early days of CGs and the Galnet announcement preceded the actual start of the CG by one or two days. With no obvious way of contributing to the CG I ended up flying away and, being an anti-slavery guy, had no idea how or where to offload the slaves without participating in what I personally consider to be the horrible practice of the slave trade. I had every penny invested in that cargo hold of slaves and in my Type 7. I got interdicted and killed. Reset.

2nd Reset: I simply didn't like the character name I was using and hadn't invested too much time since the first reset so ... reset.

3rd Reset: I'd been playing for a while as CMDR Fionn Mac Cumhail. I was "Dangerous", "Entrepreneur", and "Pioneer". The player group I'd been working with decided to divest itself and I decided on a whim that I'd like to reach the rank of "Elite" in at least one of the three disciplines without a single death. Reset.

4th Reset: Killed by a player just outside the station in Diso while doing rare trading. Reset.

5th Reset: While exploring near the center of the galaxy I went AFK while entering the next system which just happened to be a Neutron Star. When I got back to my keyboard after picking up some pizza from down the street my temperature was above 300% and my hull integrity was quickly counting down: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1% - eject! eject! eject! - Reset.

6th Reset: I tried an experiment. One of the Kickstarter rewards allowed players to reserve a "Jameson" name. Folks paid $1000 or so for the priviledge. On a lark I named this game save "Gordon Jameson" and ... IT WORKED! Even though I hadn't participated in that level of the kickstarter I GOT ME A JAMESON NAME! Over the next few weeks though I started feeling really guilty about that. Reset.

7th Reset: After several days I realized that my chosen Commander name was misspelled. Reset.

I'm currently several months into my current game save and working toward exploration Elite. My current goal is to boast a combined Exploration/Combat rank of "ELITE: Harmless" just for the sheer absurdity of it. I'm very, very close now at over halfway from Pioneer to Elite.

I've been playing also since 1.4, pretty much a year?
I have about half that.
(50,000,000cr in cash, 2 Pythons(both A rated, one combat/missions, other exploration/trade), an A rated FDL, and a mining/trading Anaconda.
Plus a load of other ships.

But, I missed the Moria CG, and i spent a month exploring, which was pretty low profit really.
And recently i spend more time doing Engineers stuff, than grinding for cash.

I'd say what you've earned is pretty normal really. :)

That means that either you didn't make money-making a priority, or you weren't very good at it. Each to their own!

I made 1.8 billion in just one month doing nothing but bounty hunting. That was in 1.5.

I just feel sorry for people like this , They think they have loads of credits....but in fact only have some numbers they read , credits are only worth anything if spent , you keep yours ,therefore are worth nothing but a sad boast.

"Please feel free to discuss"
What exactly should I discuss?

Topic 1: Is 1.4 B Cr a lot, or fairly common?

Topic 2: How do you measure the value you get out of this game that you play too much?

Topic 3: Are the occasional (and shifting) get-rich-quick schemes a fair thing?

Fair enough, I'll bite:

T3:
There is always some way to make a LOT of money.
Each way never lasts forever.
Fdev are using this to guide players around the parts of the game that they are working on and are investigating; or have recently worked on and want to showcase. (Smuggling / mining )
Often these get-rich-quick schemes involve a moral compromise where the CMDR has to make a "Bad Ethical Choice" (slavery).
Other times they are a reward for significant effort. (The precious gems at the end of the Dangerous Game / Rise To Power).

Topic 1: 1.4 BCr is a significant sum, but most players who are Elite ranked would be there. The game is exponential: making your first Million is as hard as your tenth is as hard as your hundredth. If you are comparing yourself to others you will always find those who are more fortunate and less. Better to consider what you DO than what what you HAVE.

Topic 2: My standing within the Alliance Elite Diplomatic Corps and my Rep here on the forums mean as much to me as any in-game achievement. I judge my value not by my bank balance (Hello Monday is "Fly below rebuy day") - but by my visibilty within the community.
Community is about knowing people and being known by them.

So there.
