Best moment in the game for you so far?

Since several people (myself included) have their first canopy blowout as a standout moment I thought I'd share this brilliant video (one of the very first ED videos that truly made the hair on the back of my neck stand up thanks in part to the beautiful Hans Zimmer soundtrack) ...

For me it was back in 1.3 when I was in a HighRES. I ended up in a fight against a wing of 3 Vultures in my Cobra MK III, at the time it was my biggest ship, only having it and my Sidey back then. I had the bright idea to take them thinking the nearby cops would help in the fight. I engage and almost immediately lose my shields. Little did I know the cops were busy with an Anaconda.

You'd think I'd jump out but no, I just started boosting around the rocks, using them as cover and taking as many quick pops at them till I took down 2 of em. Ended up in a 1 on 1 with the last one with my shields back and 50 percent hull and decided to get really brave and rammed him. Killing him and taking my hull down to under 30 percent. The whole time I'm        g out thinking I'm crazy, I should jump.

That moment was when my love affair with my Cobra really started. She was already my favorite ship but that fight made her my most prized ship in the game. I figure if she can survive that she can survive anything. And so far she has.

The very best moment for me has been when I started the game in VR for the first time.
I strapped on the HMD and couldn't believe how big the inside of a station really is.

The VR experience is simply mindblowing! Thanks FD for making me spend so much money on hardware since then! I really mean that ;)

The first vistas, seeing a planet up close.
The first time I deployed my first sidewinder's hardpoints (so epic). My first jump. My first canyon run. My first srv mountain climb.

Lots of "first". A more elaborate memory would be, after dozens of hours trading in some unresponsive anaconda with a clamped vision, buying an asp scout and undocking. The vision, the responsiveness, the feeling of having the universe below my character's feet. I felt like "gosh, I had forgotten this game was great".

Best moment for me so far? Many have been 'best'. But I think the day I took the following screenshot was probably the best.

tPgw1kx.jpg

This was on the last day of 2.0 beta, I think barely a few hours before the servers went down? I was staring at Bettleguise from the second planet out (it's within scooping range) and it just filled the sky and I was for a moment just dumbfounded and completely lost for words.

I was just this dumb meat-popsicle sitting in SRV, looking up and it reminded me of all the times I was very young and used to go outside and just stare at the stars for hours; on a farm, middle of nowhere with very little artificial lights. Kinda hit me more than I thought it would. Still does.

Frontier does things I don't understand at times. And they cut corners. But, there are times. This is still an amazing game. David, Sandro, Mike and everyone else. We often complain, but perhaps don't thank you enough. So. Thank you.

Best moment for me was when I switched from 2D to my Oculus Rift. Totally different game. I somethimes just fly around and stay next to one of the stations with the 3 rotation long cylinders and just watch my ship from the outside while the station rotates and the sunlight reflects in the metallic cylinders.

Also Amazing going to a moon and driven in an SRV. It's awesome. Like, aaaaah, that was when they landed on the moon.

3rd awesome experience was to buy a Viper and fly through canyons.

First PvP death. Sucked at the time but the resulting reflection affected my game strategy oh so much. Ditched the Asp for a well defended Clipper and grew to love the excitement of Open. That experience led to more strategic thinking, searching for and landing in a group experienced in PvP, my first wing fight, first Powerplay related 1v1, first PvP riddled CG. And every experience in this game since.

Thanks for the murder CMDR (UNNAMED). You set me down an exciting path in this game and I'm grateful. That said, if you start playing again I will hunt you down and murder you.

I have a couple.

First time a player tried to pirate me and we had 3 T-somethings and a Clipper(?) where we chased off the Dropship that tried pirating us. He did threaten to kill me next time he interdicted me but I believe I outsmarted him.. never saw him again I believe. :(

One of the times I pirated a player convoy (once with one Anaconda and Clipper escorting a T9 I believe). It was fun, I got the cargo.

Or the time I interdicted a Conda and we chased him over multiple systems and we eventualy we interdicted 2 or 3 systems later and slowly tore him apart engines, FSD, shields. We made him drop some cargo and we shot out his life support for the trouble he gave us and left him to it.

So far I've had plenty of 'moments' in game but right now I would be happy to just be able to play it. 4 Fractured ribs and a fractured scapula, all on the right side are stopping me right now :x

Jesus Bran, what happened?

Also, just today (from a post elsewhere) ...

WOW, what a morning I just had. Started off at the alien crash site ..

9K5kpyE.png
.. and then picked up 7 million worth of delivery missions from Obsidian Orbital. Delivered the 1st without incident and then got diverted to a FuelRat rescue where I ended up having to interdict my client in order to rescue them ("I mean to rescue you even if it must be burglary" - for the Withnail fans). Got interdicted on the way back to my 2nd delivery, killed the miscreant and claimed my mission payout AND his bounty. Then set off to make my 3rd delivery and ended up here ..

I do not believe it ... a perfect Total Recall site! (now I'll have to start collating for Total Recall 3). Of course I had to give it a try so I land, hand in my 3rd delivery and deploy SRV.

This happens ..

I hereby claim the Big Air prize for myself with an altitude of 5km ... which I survived ... with 3% hull remaining.
So ... saw an alien ship wreck, collected 7 million + bounties, killed a pirate, rescued an explorer on his way back from Betelgeuse and deployed into a 5km high base jump over a perfect Total Recall settlement. All in all a pretty good morning.

:D

Don't watch any comedies - sounds like laughing isn't a good idea for you right now!

A few months ago, having been texted the co-ords of the barnacle on Merope 5c by a friend on XBL ...( thanks G' bane)...flew there in my trusty ol' DBS 'The White Dragon', taking about half a hour IRL from 'our' home system .
Dropped down to orbital cruise, trying to work out lat' and long' indication on the hud compass.... finally understanding it...
making my way very slowly to co-ords in 'normal' flight mode so as not miss anything.... darkness starting to set in, switching on headlights...flying along canyons !....
Finding a landing spot.. deploying the SRV 'Fire Lizzard 1'.... continuing the search with the aid of 'full' head lights.. Exact co-ords reached....
cant see anything (..... thinks to self .... headlights off ) sitting there looking around into the dark 'magnificent desolation'.....whats that over there..... green glow....!

Wow Wee thanks to all at FD [up]

Hmmmmm.

Arriving at Jaques (first long distance trip) was strangely satisfying - I may have Tiger -Woods-arm-pumped to myself.

Vulture in a CZ with large beams - getting a strong Star Wars feeling from exciting combat.

First planetary landing/sunrise/sunset also really nice.

Mine was in the early days of Beta, the first time I entered combat on the awesome starter sidewinder, with two multicannons spewing bullets, sparks everywhere, the sound of metal being shredded apart... The fact that you can see the cannons in front of you feels incredible, like you're fliying a high tech WWI warplane... and the combat felt so, so good... It was an eye opening moment. I fell in love with the game almost instantly after that.

Second time was after some weeks of heavy trading: finally bought the fabled Anaconda, and, with no shields and no insurance money at all, I was happily trading between two stations for two hours straight. I remember I was so broke, that on the first trip I had to carry only half cargo, as I had no money for commodities. Entering the letterbox unshielded, with zero fliying experience on this ship, and with zero possibilities of rebuy, made those two hours the most tense I remember ingame.

The last one was on the Robigo smuggling missions. I only did around 5 round trips on the Asp, but they were very tense, heart pounding. It was great gameplay, rewarding and punishing at the same time.

All in all, despite the almost constant criticism that we spew about the game in the forums, it's nothing short of an astounding achievement. Definetly one of the best games ever made, and it can get so much better still...

Great work guys, keep it up!

Holy cow, what an adventure tonight.

Mission to take out 3 skimmers. Spent a 1/2 hour looking for the station. Turns out the station was in an Unexplored planet surface. New to me. Problem was I dumped my default planet scanner for cargo space. Hike all the way back to space station to rebuy a stupid scanner, back to proper galaxy, OMG fly around forever scanning what must of been 20 different new 'places'.

Down to last few Unexplored, and for the very first time, I don't win an Interdiction. Space battle ensues. Win but hull is pretty bad so had to visit recently found station for repair. Back to scanning again, finally discovered the skimmer station I sought after. Glided in, buggy'ed inside large, heavily walled base.

The huge security gate closes behind me and alarms sound. Oh sh*t!

Big Fed ship wakes up and strafes back and forth laying fire. I hug walls with SRV and that protects me so so. Running around like a chicken with head cut off. Did I mention the low gravity and snow surface was slick as heck; buggy steered like a drunk mule. Took me forever to figure out how to open the gate. 42% hull.

Fed ship nuked itself running into too many station structures, thank goodness. Took out the skimmers and got the heck out of dodge.

Man, this ended up one heck of a mission. Payout was a nice 550k though, largest yet.

Best moment in the game was before they reduced the ship running costs, because at that point, you have to be brave and good to use the bigger more expensive ships, but no the children cried and the cost was taken away.

But up until that point, most of the pvp was between Cobra MKIII and vipers and the small ships, PVP was fun, enjoyable and fun... Then shield cell banks came in with stacking, running costs got nerfed, so everyone could fly around Anacondas and not care a jot because there was no cost to losing them. The game progress was broken so people could go from a sidewinder to an Anaconda in less than a week, some have doing in less than 24 hours...

Well done FD...

It's in the little moments. Such as dropping out of supercruise to talk to an NPC with an offer, and just as he's finished giving it then another NPC comes along and shoots him dead before my eyes, then I'm all like, "NOOOOOOOOOO!" and I go on a murderous rampage to avenge my new friend's death.

Or when two NPCs interdict me at the same time and end yp fighting each other instead while I sit back and watch.

I was in a viper Mk III, in a totally intense fight with a federal assault ship, believe me it was a very close one, both of our shields were down, I think I was at around 30% when I decided I needed to take cover behind an asteroid, as I darted for the cover I considered running, but I was far too deep in the asteroid field to run. I had to stick it out and fight to the gruesome end. By the time I was able to take cover I was at around 10 percent, I pulled a quick Immelmann, and I saw the targeting reticle creeping up to the edge of the asteroid, I felt like I was effed, but hell if I ever go down without a fight, I had 1 dumb fire missile in each medium pod left, I predicted the lead time and I did my best, I fired them both at once. The missiles screeched past the edge of the asteroid, the target still hasn't revealed himself, the missiles still getting further and further away from me, the target reveals below the asteroid, missiles hurtling toward it, I imagined his multi cannons spooling up preparing to finish me off in a hail of bullets. The missiles both connected, instant decimation, large bounty, and I was safe and sound, my shields finally regened in about 10 seconds afterwards and I flew back to the station, battered, but not beaten.

Aside from the initial "Wow" mine is the first time I took down a "High Security" base. My trusty combat SRV sure took a beating from those missile throwing skimmers, but held on to knock them out. The pay off??? Modified "Embedded" Firmware. Also 754k Intel package. My favorite...so far. o7

My best I think was 2.1 and seen the visual sheen everywhere. That and the sounds of the spacestation. Getting access to Sol was exciting, but ultimately disappointing when I found you couldn't land on the moon. Most memorable was killing Tom Baker and some offspring of Aryn and D'argo from Farscape (I presume). I do enjoy some of the NPC names.
