Equatorial cannonball run

Apologies if this boring, but I don't know how else to collate the pics from Imgur into some sensible order with meta-data. At least here I can add spoiler tags :D

I have a feeling the co-ordinates system is somewhat broken - at least on the grid map view of the planet. I neglected to take regular snaps, especially 'round back' but was surprised to see I was allegedly starting a 2nd circuit. so now I'm taking more regular snaps. Here's what I have so far:

In all cases, I have not rotated the planet in any way.

Edit; hmmm... the feint 'ribbons' that come from the planet seem to be different. I wonder if the overall sphere is somehow oriented to the system? Despite being tidally locked, the planet must still rotate relative to the star as it travels *around* the star - so maybe this diagram is showing the grid rotated relative to star?

You know what ... it hadn't even occured to me that there was a blue location marker on those planet schematics showing you where you were. Cool. Hmmm, well it certainly seems like there must be some sort of planetary rotation going on there. I guess what we should do is find a fast rotating planet with a settlement on it and then check its system map planetary schematic on a regular basis to confirm this. Hang on ... doesn't Mitterand Hollow have a settlement? We should be able to see that moving in real time (or at least changing position dramatically every time we re-open the system view).

Is it wrong to still eat chocolate after it's hit the floor? Wasn't going to waste it, it's the last one. Probably shouldn't have been eating it whilst driving. The altimeter suddenly spiked to 38m - a height that can be deadly even on this low gravity world. And so it was action stations to glide The Rock Diviner back down to ground, whilst the chocolate went flying out my hands. The Chocolate Chasm of Impending Death at 0/66.7 needs a warning beacon added!

Cmdr Aputsiaq was kind enough to join me again on Day 60. A day that also took me over the 100 hrs mark - 100 hrs 33 mins to be precise.

The darkness is consuming. As the galaxy itself sinks below the horizon behind, what little light there was disappears. Being joined by Cmdr Aputsiaq again helped lift spirits, and the extra set of headlights certainly helped eliminate the claustrophobia I'm starting to feel. Are all adventures like this I wonder - full of joy and amazement juxtaposed with utter despair, no matter how fleeting? 'A hermit to the stars' she said once. Yet it seems even hermits can feel lonely in the dark. Small steps, little goals, that seems to be the order. And so it is that a milestone is finally breached. Three quarters. Yay. Simultaneously close enough to the end to be inspiring and far enough to be dis-heartening. If only the star would break dawn.....but that's a good few days away yet. On-wards Rock Diviner, on-wards we go.

Hello CMDR Disorganise,

Your last post touched me right in the heart. Shear poetry! And so recognizable, especially the bit about being close enough to be inspiring yet far enough to be dis-heartening.

I admire the perseverence with wich you work yourself through this adventure!

Given your current speed and the fact that I have been, ehrm, delayed, I don't know if I will make it in time to keep you company on your journey. My sincere apologies if I cannot make it in time, although I will keep on trying.

Safe travels,
CMDR Jermus

Amazing Cmdr...wish I was a little closer as I'd happily keep you company on the journey. Stay strong!

+1!

The eccentricity of your SRV quest commander is a great illustration of how diverse and interesting ED:H is as a game world.

Drive on!

I'm guessing another 20-30 days. However, weekend of the 10th/11th September I may have opportunity to put in some hours to reduce that. I still want to get back to BP7 for Polonium before I leave system too, so chances are I'll still be around :)

It's the little things isn't it? The 90's have been surprisingly flat. This has meant a little more progress than normal, which is great after the frustrating forties. As a result, I have made the 100 mark :D With that mini-goal done, suddenly the end feels much more achievable - strange really since it's still a long way off.

Aaaaaand....there's something new appearing on the horizon! It only appears during the 'skips' at the moment, but the excitement of something breaking the monotony of black has injected some sorely needed relief. What will it be I wonder?

Awesome progress, the flats have been most kind and the Magellanic clouds arise to greet.

Found the limit of the SRV ground scanner - 100m. Zipping along and fell into a HUGE crater with an enormous mound in the middle. One minute fine, then suddenly 30m, 50m, 70, why did my scanner disappear, ooh 90, 80 70 falling fast...panic. Blind luck and no skill won out...thankfully

Wow, that must have been some tense moments, commander! Hooray for panic and who needs skill anyway... ;)

Despite the fact that these kind of events make for great stories I do hope that the remainder of your journey is less eventful.

Fly Drive safe,

thanks guys.
According to my calculations there's less than 20hrs IGT required to finish this thing :D The end really is in sight! It's theoretically possible to finish it this weekend! RL will likely scupper that but....soon. then I go to BP7 and start over.... (err nope.....I do want some polonium though)

Excellent update. Good news on the impending completion of your mission.

I am currently plotting a T-6E friendly route though the Abyss with only a few J1s (so you only need Vanadium and Germanium) which might cut down on your Polonium and other J3 materials. I won't lie, it tracks Route 33 in places, but plots its own 27-29LY jump route. I am happy to share.

Flying happily in the Dark

I have a 2nd buggy so can still finish this thing :)
I can't see what would have destroyed me though....if fall was too hard (don't think so, but...) that would have been 1 maybe 2 %. The wee rocks at speed...maybe 10% and a throw up in the air. But 38%?
So......logged another ticket to see if it's a bug. Not so much to get a buggy back but because last time it was a "never to be repeated" so.....did it repeat?

Also starting to wonder if it's just my account. Since arriving at BP I lost visibility of all the systems I scanned on the way (support says they're still there) and the handful of "bounties" for scanning crashed beacons etc.....and now my buggy's are prone to spontaneous explosive reactions....
