I combat logged a duck last night.

This is short story. Last night I was flying open in defenceless, zero cargo, exploration ship. Got attacked by random cmdr. Interdicted and shoot down I would be if not a miraculous game crash. If one can be one duck. I can combat log. I think it is more than fair, long live on demand game crashes!

So you were saved by a game crash? They probably thought you logged, you might want to check the combat loggers subreddit...

You'll be surprised at how often the game "crashes", check out /r/EliteCombatLoggers/ if you don't believe me,

Fdev needs to fix this, we can't have all these CMDR's game crashing like this, Software this unstable needs to be fixed ASAP! #MakeEliteStableAgain :D

Possible interpretation: I was about to die from an un-provoked commander attack, but my game crashed so I didn't. PS I think Combat logging is ok and fair.

The part where he says "on demand game crashes" should tell you he combatlogged and it was no real crash. To bad FD will never do anything about it even when they say it is an exploit

Combat loggers should be punished by restricting them to E-rated modules for a set time (duration increasing based on number of offences).. that would stop it...

*sigh, shakes head*

Just to be clear, that was part of my interpretation of the OP.
.
Personally I do feel combat logging is cheating. This is one of the reasons I fly in Mobius and never in open.
.
This is after four deaths to combat interdicktors who think a T6/T7 is a worthy opponent for their FDL. Note: No communication attempts so NOT pirates and no bounty etc so NOT role-playing either, just mindless no-skill Richards.

He cheated basically and wants everyone to know about it. Its a pity that forum accounts aren't linked to gamer accounts so these people could be dealt with by FD.

Mods should delete these threads though as they promote cheating.

I say they should put combat loggers on a seperate server with these settings

1. No effect on BGS
2. All repairs cost triple
3. All ships & modules cost triple
4. Police and military ships are 10x more likely to interdict and always attack
5. All commodities cost 10 and sell for 11 anywhere.

That way they are still in game and cannot try the complaint that they were banned and FD is not giving them access to what they paid for. make the 1st offense 2 week, 2nd offense a month, 3rd offense perm

Stability of the game is a problem though, even in Solo mode I can crash within minutes of a heavy CZ fight yet at other times I'm fine it mostly seems to happen in the evenings GMT, I've not ventured into PvP play yet. In DayZ they address this by leaving your character present on the server for 30s weather you quit/logout/crash/end task/network outage/power outage and then save the result whether you are in game or not too bad if it wasn't your fault. I think as a game developer the sad truth is you simply cannot trust the end user and attempt to detect foul or fair with reasonable accuracy.

There are still ways to avoid death that don't involve combat logging: high-waking, looking for threatening commanders in supercruise and low-waking to avoid, silent running, faux FSD charge to trick enemies, sticking to high-security systems, staying away from high-player traffic areas... etc

But yes, if all those options are no good, staying out of open play is the only real solution - the ones who always play in open and always log are pathetic, and should have their account restricted in some way.

Problem is with the crappy P2P architecture they chose to go with keeping you in game is not possible.

I was pretty much a noob then and the fights were over before I'd really got a grip of the situation. The last open death was without enough insurance (DOH, and entirely my fault so not complaining).
.
I'd probably do better now, but I'm never going to find gank-squad, or heavily out-classed interdictions fun and pulling the plug IS cheating (borderline opinion on true logouts under fire too).
.
If player interdictions really were by role-playing pirate commanders, I'd agree that would add spice to the game and I'd happily respond to reasonable cargo demands but my experience was nothing but zero chance gankers, hence Open is closed to me.

Oh yes, staying away from high traffic areas completely defeats the whole point of wanting to play in open. I love Mobius for the CGs as there is a really friendly atmosphere as you are 99% certain no one wants to kill you and we can chat while in friendly competition.

Then there is little room for a solution because if there were penalties for an unexpected disconnect that could be induced by one player on another, even a YouTube video showing an apparent combat logger cannot be trusted. Your only real option is to fight against players you trust not to abuse the systems like a league of clan vs clan, but for the rest its the wild west.

You could always contact player combat wings for some close protection, there are plenty of them out there. Use inara.cz/wings to find them.
