Newcomer / Intro So I want an Anaconda...

I'm currently sitting, with about 6mil in the bank, in a Cobra MKIII. So I need to score me megabucks. I have petty officer status with Federation (just had to see sol system) and I'm allied with one minor power, friendly with a bunch and cordial with tons of others, given that I get most of my income from flying data and cargo missions, which I can generally score around 80-100k for the data and 150-250k for the cargo.

My question is, what's the best way to go from here to get enough in the bank for a conda? If I up my fed rank will I get bigger paychecks on the missions or maybe I need to up some other stats? Does the MP relationship impact mission rewards at all? Don't see much diff between friendly and allied, tbh. If I could get my average mission payoff around a million creds, I'd be much happier. Even more would be good. What's a realistic target? Maybe I should buy a bigger freighter and switch to trading? Maybe the only way to bag a cool mil per mission is to switch to assassination or something?

At this point, I mined until I bought an Asp. Then I mined some more until I got into a Python. Then T9, then Anaconda time.

Maybe not the best way, but I found it safe, the mining peaceful, and a steady climb. Trust me, you'll do plenty of trading later down the line anyway!

Don't know if the Rare Commodity trade is any good for the Cobra stage now.

You wont earn much initially, but you will start to earn enough to get an ASP, and then you can start making 5-20m per run

Similarly for me, I upgraded to larger ships for trading and concentrated on a good A -> B -> A route until I got to a T7. I hammered trading until I had enough to get the T9 with enough for an A rated FSD and Distributor and a fairly decent shield generator. I kept my other ships (except the T7) as I bought the bigger ships as I sometimes wanted to do something other than trading.

I think only certain stations offer long range missions (someone correct me if I'm wrong), so you might not be in one of those systems.

Your jump range won't be a problem. Long range missions just mean you have to jump more times (obviously refueling/scooping when necessary).

So am I not getting offered long range missions cos I don't have the jump capability?

As I understand it the only stations offering long range missions are out at (or just beyond) the edge of the bubble. If the station/faction does do long range missions you should see them but they may be marked as unavailable for reasons such as your standing with the faction or cargo capacity.

Remember whilst saving up for an Anaconda you will need to allow as much or more again to outfit it plus the rebuy costs will be something like 10-15 million each time so add on at least another 50 million for them.

I hope you are joking! I have an ASP for several month now and I never ever got more than 300K per run, with a miximum of 1M for a long haul...

Watch the vid again. The high paying missions generally require a decent rep with the stations (Ceos/Sothis/Robigo etc). It gets better the higher your trade rank too to the point I've heard people on occasions making almost double the 20m that Vindicator Jones said was possible.

Njikan and Ross 199. Get your rep up by doing the various missions and mining contracts for the pristine rings. At the same stack skimmer missions. In no time you'll be getting skimmer missions worth over 2 mil a piece and various mining contracts from a few hundred thousand to 1 mil.

There's a lot of different things to do there while earning some credits.

Vindicator Jones, I am declaring you my new short duration personal saviour! I flew out to Ceos and immediately got one of those "Give us some change for the bus fare home" missions (you just know they're going to spend the money on booze and drugs, innit) from the local Fed contact. So I hand over a couple of hundred kilobucks and boom - relationship = cordial. Now I got a mission hauling some poop 400ly for 1.6 mil and another hauling more poop to the exact same destination for another 1.4mil! This is more money than a lowly cobra pilot like me would see in month so off I go...

Just pulling out of the station and I get a message ping. Seems they've pulled the old bait'n'switch and one of the poop missions is to go somewhere else now. Fortunately it was only 1 jump away from the original destination. My relief was palpable. I went to the new place first and picked up another two missions delivering poop to the same place I was going for about another 80grand between them.

3,080,000 plus 60k bonus for the bait'n'switch, I'm gonna be rich in no time!

Can't help wondering what the hell this place needs all the poop for, tho. :O

Sounds like you are well on the way, just be aware the whole Anaconda often isn't what people want it to be.
Not saying you will be disappointed as some really love the ship but we read a lot about people "grinding" to the Anaconda then realising it's not the uber-ship and quit the game.

Anyway, happy hauling. Just be sure to hire a Mk I poop-deck cleaner when you are finished. :D

Cheers, man, I'll keep that in mind. While we're on the subject, I just noticed that the values they give for things like jump range and cargo capacity in the ship suppliers are total bunk and only based on whatever basic loadout they have on the ship you're buying. Is there some way to find out what those values would be with an A-rated component before I buy? I was holding off on some of the bigger ships cos the FSD was saying stupid things like 10LY but then I noticed my mkIII Cobra is only rated at about that and I'm jumping twice that with the A-class FSD and engineer mod.

Yeah it gives you the stock ship values which are usually terrible. Generally using Coriolis is the best way to get stats prior to buying (and estimate cost): https://coriolis.io/

Remember to hit up Li Yong Rui controlled systems like Lembava or Diaguandri when buying for 15% discount to ships & modules :)

Coriolis.io and there is another one that I can't remember let you do virtual builds of all current ships so you can see performance and cost figures.

just be aware the whole Anaconda often isn't what people want it to be.

This is only about 30% true: which is to say the purchase price of the Anaconda is only about 30% of the actual COST of the Anaconda most people "want it to be". Top end power plant and hull upgrade EACH cost the same if not a little MORE than the ship itself.. and that's just two components!

However, if you D spec it out and load it up with cargo racks and a decent fuel scoop you can make 40 mil + in a single Sothis run.

Is there some way to find out what those values would be with an A-rated component before I buy?

This is the site I use. There are others out there, but this one seems really fast for a quick n' dirty look.
