Quality of Life issues :(

Could we have perhaps some sort of module, available at most stations, that would allow ships to hide when attacked? Basically kind of like a "combat logging" module. I am thinking this... a special device that allows you to hide in "safe space". This will hopefully improve the "quality of life" for many and help "remove barriers to fun". They could be quite expensive for sure, but for those who don't like the grind, they could buy them in groups of 10 from the ED store, and have access to them anywhere in the galaxy via the ships onboard universal constructor maybe? I think if we apply enough handwavium and technobabble, it will fly with most casual player. What do you guys think?

Because everyone already has this installed. It's call the Task Manager and it does exactly what you want that module to do. It also costs 0 credits, weighs 0 tons and takes 0 internal slots. Considering how many people use this free module already I doubt that anyone is going to want an in-game version.

Sorry I was not aware of this. I checked in the options menu under controls, but could not find this "task manager" option. How do you activate it, and does it work on all ships?

It's called "Solo Mode." Go play it...

But you could use this module in solo as well!

It works on all ships if you're running Windows. If you're running a Mac OS then I don't know what the Mac equivalent is, but I'm not sure why anyone would be using a Mac to play Elite in the first place.

Not that I actually encourage combat logging, although with all the buggy interdiction issues and NPC cheating going on I don't blame CMDRs who combat log either.

How about cloaking devices?

Erm. According to Mike Brookes' "Elite: Legacy" then Cloaking Devices are already 'a thing' in Elite canon. Admittedly they are the same as hiding behind a giant umbrella painted the same colour as space, and only work from one direction, but...

You mean a cloak then?

Wait what, you mean this entire time I could have hidden my ship behind one of these:

And it would have actually worked?

All FD needs to do is to make dying more fun. Freshen up the rebuy screen a bit with:

- Pics. of space vixens that change every day.
- A roulette mini game, where you can win modular terminals.
- Binary codes that can be converted to ascii and decrypted with rot13, that tells the location of space vixens with modular terminal missions.

No one would go a day without dying.

I know, when I get attacked I usually leave the fight and go into solo until i think they are gone (unless i attacked them and they are weaker than me of course). but I have to wait 15 seconds to log out. I think this is really unfair and mean, and need a quick way to get out of combat in a legitimate way. I need to be able to leave instantly, otherwise my ship gets wiped out!
Obvious troll becomes even obvious'er

The module the OP is looking for is called the "Frameshift Drive". It allows the player to almost instantly warp to another star system when under attack, or at any other time he/she chooses. Amazing piece of technology. Available at all good starports. Buy yours today!

Question: have you ever considered the comedy circuit? Well done. Either way? Well done. Because I suspect this will be more rewarding that playing a computer game, in this instance.

Always thought an emergency jump button would be good, if you're near death just hit the button and end up somewhere completely random. It could have a chance of something odd happening, like ending up too close to a star, in the void between systems, blowing your frame shift, stuck in witch space, discovering a rogue planet, travelling hundreds of light years etc etc...

Obviously good idea is obviously good.

Obviously, rep given.

You could end up stuck behind a bookcase.
