***POLL NOW CLOSED*** IMPORTANT, OFFICIAL SHIP TRANSFER POLL

At the end of the day, it's a space game about space in the future. Your immersion had to stop somewhere.
I work 56 hours a week and shouldn't have to play <other parts of the game for> 100 minutes before I can fly My Cool Ship. I already spent countless hours grinding for it.

Difference is you CAN continue to play ED with your CURRENT ship.

Way to completely miss the point! Here, let me write it in real big letters so you can read it easy:

WE WANT THE SHIP WE'RE TRANSFERRING, NOT THE SHIP WE'RE IN.

Why is this so hard to understand???? Why would I spend time doing stuff I don't want to do in a ship I don't want to be in?

You have no idea how predictive you are :( Went for the fridge, gf: "maybe we should get some food first"

15 minute delay :|

You know, you can have a beer while eating. Actually a good beer is a very good addition to a good meal.

Now I have to drink a beer too. 15 min delay because I have to buy the beer first. *$&fl@ realism…

I hope when we get spacelegs we will have to wait for cargo to be loaded - a brisk walk in the park/to the bar.

wow. a very spinless move by Fdev.

A shame as I admired their perceived steadfastness and clarity-of-design.

Looks like my FDL will never see space again if transfers are not instant or do not take a trivial amount of time.

Genuinely surprised and impressed by this Frontier. More polls for controversial mechanic changes in the future please :)

We do actually know if it's a vocal minority that wants non-instant transfers, because they said so on a forum. A small fraction of the playerbase by number of votes and they are the people that go on forums - which is the vocal minority any sane developer ignores when it comes to actually important design decisions.

You know, such as deciding to go for either a moronic phone-game-esque wait timer that is pointless except for "immersion" (a factor that the people clamoring for it, ignore in many FAR more egregious cases, such as         player death, modded components or why the hell the galaxy isn't colonized considering how little time it takes to get around just to name a few) or a sane instant transfer for a minor fee.
Because the latter is simply good gameplay, while the former is crazy until someone can come up with a reason that doesn't boil down to "I am a hypocrite".

Thanks for this! And I imagine this decision will have implications for NPCs joining us from remote locations and lots of other things down the road...

I think the 5-100 minute option sounds about right. Any shorter duration - less than 5 minutes - is just tedium, staring at the screen. So it's either instant or a proper wait. The 5-100 minute wait would probably average around half an hour and I'm happy with that.

I wonder if it could be done via the galaxy map, allowing us to send ships and equipment to other places, not just to the station we're currently at. If there is a wait, it would be lovely to send things in advance, e.g. if you know you're going somewhere and will need another ship at the destination. Forward planning becomes a proper game mechanic! :) (as mentioned by ?who above).

How is this game currently even playable? Poor people have to fly around in ships they don't wanna fly it seems.

*Unless there is a significant, majority vote against ship transfer delivery times, along with a high turnout*, we will likely be moving towards implementing plausible delays into ship and module transfer, though such a change may affect when the features comes online.
Why bother with a poll at all if you're just going to rig it in favour of the option you want anyway? As someone said earlier, most people who want instant will just assume it's going to be how it was in the announcement video and not realise they have to vote for it.

Either way it is going to make putting decent hyperdrives on battleships absolutely obsolete, and mean i never will have to take any large ship anywhere. Massive nerf...

"Yes there should be a delay of 5 minutes minimum, 100 minutes to cross the human bubble, edge to edge."
This is fine! Just implement a way that we can order ship transfers while being in another system, I don't know if this has been suggested yet but here I go::

"*space-phonecall: Hey, I would like my sidewinder, which is docked at LHS 3447, to be at Founders' World asap. 10 minutes? Fine. How much it would be? Whaaat? Ok, fine, just move my ship" *10 min timer starts*

Then you have to go to Founders' World to check if you ship has arrived as you ordered (ofc it does), you dock on the station, open the ship transfer menu and "sign", letting the ship-transport company know that the transfer was succesful.
If you have arrived after the timer ends you get your ship instantly, if that is not the case, you have to wait until it does.

You can also order the transfer at Founders, but this way you'll have to wait for 10 min doing nothing (or doing whatever you want to do, duh).

This way you'll be able to plan your ship-transfers and spend that timer time in whatever you want to: traveling there with another ship, doing missions in the system you are currently at and then head there... You get the point!

I definitely agree that in addition to a delay, we should also be able to order transfers between remote stations. That way if all I'm doing is re-basing my fleet, I don't actually have to go to either station: I just order the transfer, and the ships are moved while I play. No time lost at all, feature working as intended.

The delay is there to keep us from playing like we're just always magically carrying an entire fleet in our back pocket. Base your fleet in a reasonable location, and when you only need one particular ship you can just fly there and get it like we do now. But if you're re-basing ships, ship transfer is there to save you time by doing the moving for you while you play.

Thanks for the poll!
Honestly I would like it if the ships actually travelled the distance in real time and you could even see them in SC travelling to the destination.. Possibly with you able to wing up and escort it yourself with all the risks of it being interdicted and destroyed even when you aren't there to see it, but I don't think everyone would be too chuffed with that! :p

Lol have you ever run out of SRV fuel? Have you ever even come close? I haven't, and I've spent quite a lot of time hooning around featureless ball of dirt #47-A let me tell you. You're way more likely to have your hull fail than you are to run out of fuel. It is a pointless mechanic that serves absolutely NO purpose. And it was implemented because forumdads moaned about it.

Yes, I have had to synth refuel many times - with shields off and data scanner off etc. I guess you haven't spent as much time trucking around as I have - even though that is of entirely no consequence to the concept that SRVs use fuel.
