***POLL NOW CLOSED*** IMPORTANT, OFFICIAL SHIP TRANSFER POLL

Seems par for the course, to me.

And I love it.

Par for the course for sure.

I will be happy with this feature either way, but if they do go with the delay idea, then I think they should add some in-game mechanics to help bolster the transport process and give some credibility to the reason for the time delay. A tracking system to watch the transport ship's progress from point A to B. Actually modeling the transport ships and putting them into the game at the bare minimum, being visible in shipping lanes and around Starports.

I'm casting my vote for delay - as a casual player. Instant makes for good gameplay, but this is a multiplayer universe.

I just bought my first "big" ship - a glass cannon, err, FDL. Jump range is...lacking - even with A-spec parts. But I can live with that, it's my combat ship. 1.5hr summon is more than reasonable, and WAAAY better than doing a module respec to make a long trip for a CG. (Nevermind if the modules I want aren't available at my destination.) It requires planning.

Instant transfer would mean that the ENTIRE travel system could be negated. From a gameplay and BALANCE standpoint, the delays aren't harsh enough. It should be significantly, expensive, and slow.

Plus, if everyone and their mom is moving to a particular system for a CG, rates (and maybe even wait times) should INCREASE.

It would also be nice to see ship/module transfer missions generated to pass some of those credits back to other CMDRs. :-D

As has been said numerous times. Sitting in you escape pod doing nothing is not game play. Doing combat, trading, missions while your ship is in transit is game play. To say otherwise is obviously ludicrous.

and sitting on your ship travelling 22.000 ly doing the same sequences (=same things: jump, scoop, jump scoop and so on) is different? And still it is in the game...

What about instant futures that are in game from begining and none was complaining about them? What about instant respawn in the same destroyed ship, with same "rare" upgrades? What about instant pilot teleporting after death to the center of human space? I've been traveling since 3 days to Jaques station, selling there my Anaconda and self destruct in Sidewinder - in obout 30 seconds (loading) I was in the middle of the "bubble" without any costs. And now everybody are crying about instant ship transfer, what a hipocrisy :D

Well given the amount of dissent, we cannot just put it down to hypocrisy. Clearly this issue is a divisive one, as opposed to the others. Not only that, but would that not make anyone who votes for Instant a hypocrite if they don't want to see instajumps everywhere in their manned ships? Hypocrisy would be the practice of claiming to have higher standards or more noble beliefs than is the case. I don;t see how this is relevant here.

So applying that logic to instant transfer whilst you want a delay, why not set an arbitrary time of your own and set an alarm for yourself before you collect your transported ship. Then everyone can have what they want and we can all go dance together in the land of Lavian Brandy? Not having a delay is only a problem if you let it be one for yourself ;)

Dogg, people will demand and get a delay and then discover the immersion and depth of talking to support about getting their ship unstuck from transport because they made a terrible mistake and realised the ship they need is taking the slow boat to China and won't be available for another 3 days.

Or in the case of Jaques, about 2-3 months. It'll be fine.

You know what else is gameplay? Flying the ship you ordered (and paid, they're already going to be fun-taxing it anyway) to be transfered immediately. If I was having fun flying my current ship I wouldn't be ordering a different one. Hence, the choice is between no gameplay (current ship, which I don't want to fly) and gameplay (flying the ship I paid for to fly and transfer) now. At best it's the choice between bad gameplay (or I wouldn't be trying to fly something else) and gameplay. Either way, taxing fun even more is stupid.

As for the "realism" and "immersion" arguements, they are blatantly wrong. Objectively so. There is far worse unrealistic and "un-immersive" design in the game and that's ignored because, guess what, it's makes for better gameplay, just like instant transfers.

Cognitive Dissonance in action: Instant Ship Transfer bad. Instant Respawn and replacement of unique engineer mods good.

I'm in favour of a reasonable delay in ship transfer, but module transfer delay worries me. Would it apply if the ship you are transferring from is in the same station as you? If it does then, in my opinion, it's a bad idea. If not, why bother as you would just bring the ship. I understand why the poll is so black and white but would have maybe been better with a wee bit of grey.

I want to see little things like that all over the game too.

Like shipyards....WHO REMEMBERS SHIPYARDS, amirite? (in 2.2, or are they called capital ship docks..w/e what do i know)

Expect the first cut of this to be pretty simplistic, either way. With pizzazz added over time.

And as has been said numerous times, "go and do something else" simply is not an option for everyone. If you're in a bounty hunting ship, but tonight you're on call or watching your kid so need to stick to peaceful trade routes in Solo, you're pretty much screwed. And if you're bored to tears of trading, telling someone to go run trade routes while they wait for their bounty hunting ship might as well be telling them not to play the game.

As has also been said numerous times: if your personal sense of immersion requires a delay, waste your own time voluntarily. Don't force everyone else to waste their time just because you lack the self-control to enforce a delay upon yourself.

TL;DR

Obviously there should be a delay, but FD loaded it by saying 5 to 100 mins, which is too long.

What's wrong with fast couriers of ship cargo? Souped up transports. They don't need to go slow. 2 - 20 mins, not 5-100.

While we're at it, what about paying more for a faster transfer?

A Reasonable Post! Rep +1

Indeed, or we're going to have another Brexit.

Hey I "lost" in the brexit vote but there is no arguing the country spoke. Sure they believed the lies but it was the biggest turnout in my life time... oh and btw these very forums predicted the exact outcome even to the %. (We should be paid to do the poll predictions ;) )

FWIW given DDF members paid a lot of cash to have a say in exactly this sort of thing I think they should get 5 votes ;)

My vote is based on wanting a believable game WHERE POSSIBLE and yes I would accept loading and repair times so long as we has missions to do whilst we wait in a loaner or later times on the base. Destruction obviously can't be real time as we can't play BUT a 3 min automated sequence just to give the impression of travel

This is crazy people, instant transfer is fine, as is instant cargo loading and instant escape pod return..... Would you like a poll to have a 30 minute delay to load 500t cargo, or be locked out the game for 100 minutes while your escape pod made its way back to the last station.

Please vote to leave things the same, no delay!!!

There is a saying be careful what you wish for. You may get it...

So would the 'delay' be proportional to the distance traveled? Its another time and money sink which I guess is part of the motivation to keep earning credits and stretch out activities.

Also is there an RND(6) chance that the ship will be lost in transit? Do require shipping insurance?
