***POLL NOW CLOSED*** IMPORTANT, OFFICIAL SHIP TRANSFER POLL

Well thought out question which is why I voted for instant. In the event that the delay is implemented, it will effect my gameplay thusly: Put in request for ship I need, tell Siri to set a timer, LOG OUT, PLAY HEARTHSTONE until Siri counts down, then resume Elite provided that I haven't been sucked into Hearthstone for the rest of the night. If the goal is to get me to play another developers game, then the delay will be totally worth it.

Using that logic you'd never be playing in the first place.

This would also kill almost all of the immersion, which is what I play for, and make ED one step closer to being just another version of every other space game. This sort of a ship transfer is a terrible idea in all respects. It's a crutch for whiners and the weak. I say keep the galaxy big and let CMDRs learn to plan ahead.

Please don't allow lazy whiners to ruin your wonderful game.

Even if waiting is 5 - 10 minutes?

Unless the system is right next door it won't be five minutes. If 400LY is 100 minutes then 200LY is nearly an hour. 100LY is nearly half an hour.

This is based on the first post and distances quoted. The ship would have to be 10-15 LY away. It will be faster to go get it.

Ship transport really only makes sense for large fleet movements where shear weight of numbers compensates, or to queue up moves for the next session.

In virtually every scenario of a single ship within he bubble? It will be faster to collect instead. Or not bother.

You already need to distort your sense of time to roleplay in this game. You can make up that it took however long you want. But don't act like its balancing anything. Balancing against what? Enjoyment? Why would you want to nerf enjoyment? Who exactly are these people twiddling their thumbs in the station thinking, "this is awesome. I'm so glad I decided to waste my time".
None of the timelines in the game are realistic. You have to imagine it all. Cargo loads instantly, repairs happen instantly, accepting and delivering missions, warping between systems.

The only reason getting to beagle point is an accomplishment is because we have lives outside of ED. If we actually lived on a starship and the timescales were the same, getting there would take like 2 days and none of your friends would even have time to miss you. With billions of starships in the sky and hundreds of years headstart, the whole galaxy would be explored to death. We only roleplay that this takes any significant amount of time.

Instant transfer.

That's exactly the problem! But I'm sure FDev is painfully aware of how badly their game is doing. How badly their numbers have fallen. And I'm sticking to my guns: if this goes live and it isn't instant, I will never, ever ever again buy anything from Frontier. Period. I'll play Elite until I get sick of it, using up resources, but I will never contribute another dime to their coffers.

I refuse to reward developers that compromise good gameplay for the sake of tedium simply to pander to forumdads who think staring at a loading screen is "rewarding gameplay" and that pickup sessions "should be planned for".

Sensible balancing will be needed, of course. I think they were just spitballing some numbers to get the poll going.

I really don't mind the instant gratification point of view...I'm as happy as a pig in the brown stuff with certain "gamey" aspects like instant SRV repairs and refuelling. Not to mention the exceedingly fast ground crews who can repair and refit ships instantly. Ammo synthing? Why not I say.

That being said, I voted for there to be a delay in delivery time. The whole argument over realism doesn't bother me in the slightest...that's not my reason for why I chose the second option. I think that instant transfer in this case would be far too easy to exploit and while it does indeed hold the potential to be hugely satisfying to some, as well as time efficient for many others.

In this case however, the pendulum swings both ways and this could well be used with devastating effect to do nothing more than prove a point...or just fer giggles and with some the players here, that is most certainly not beyond the realm of the imagination. If it's possible to exploit it, then the very worst in this game will do just that and the resulting consequences would mean instant gratification fer some...and game breaking mechanics for many others.

Well, if you will quit, I'm pretty sure the devs are working overtime right now to make the feature exactly as you wish.

Call off the poll, else Kurr will quit!

Well thats odd, I have always tought PC is for hardcore gamers and consoles for kids and casual arcade players. And that I think still.
Cool?

My experience is the opposite - with kids rushing to Minecraft, Five Nights at Freddie's, Slenderman or whatever other rubbish is cluttering up the steam store, sold by pandering youtube stars to easily board pre-teens.
Meanwhile my gaming group consists entirely of men and women aged 35-50 (most of whom are in the IT industry) who just want to jump into a game without any song and dance.

Aged out? ... What? PC Upgrade Cycle is infinitely easier today than it was 10 years ago (CPU's especially last a lot longer before they are "old" due to smaller generational improvements).

It's easier than ever to maintain/upgrade a PC.

And yet I still can't be bothered with it, and would rather hit the "go now" button. After 25 years of building my own computers, I no longer find it fun or rewarding. It's not new experimental kit anymore - it's a paint-by-numbers appliance.
I'm not suggesting you need to feel the same way. If you enjoy it, more power to you.

This is off-topic though: Jaques engines strapped to your ship, unsafe for crew, instant transfer is great

I like that FD is listening and acting...

Just a thought:

How about an order for transfer to your location or location of your choice, you pick the time frame, 3hr. to 24hr. game time. That way you can plan to meet you ship when you log on to play the game. The faster it get to you and the farther the ship cost more plus the size of the ship.

Can your ship be Hijacked on route ???

Is there a crew or just a Auto-Pilot unit installed (At a Fee).

Can your ship get "LOST IN SPACE" ( and you have to find it ), what route did it take ( do you get a map of it ?).

We could have a lot of fun with this...

...

... annnd stopped reading there.

You're projecting your own approach to this game onto other players. "These people" aren't twiddling their thumbs at a station; they're off playing the game whilst their ship(s) get transferred because they can actually keep themselves busy during this time.

Just curious why do you need to transfer all your ships at once? You can only sit in one at a time

I want to get my collection into a single station so I know where everything is. I want to do it all at once so I can get it over with. If ship transfer ends up with a delay, I may never consolidate my collection at all because it might take too long to sit through. Is this ultimately a small concern? Perhaps. But what irks me is that Frontier presented the perfect solution for me and my problem, and now it looks like it might get watered down or taken away.

It would have been better if I had never heard of instant ship transfer.
