what is the salt thing anyway?
To me, as a real life sailor, it means a very experienced sailor

Uh huh. That about sums it up.people aren't complaining "this is space-magic that doesn't make sense", cos 80% of elite is space-magic that doesn't make sense. They are complaining "this is space-magic that will allow other players to do things I don't want them to do". seems to me, if they are honest.

I don't want a mechanic in the game which renders half of the existing game irrelevant. I think if you are in favor of instantaneous ship transfer, you should play another game. It simply does not fit here. Oh, and immersion has nothing to do with it, it's a strawman.

Either way, I agree that having instant ship transfers as was suggested isn't in the spirit of this game.
Instant ship transfer isn't within the spirit of the game yet instant respawning is.
You're an idiot.
I believe the word salt is a term used now by people to let others know they are idiots and should be culled from the population.
One is a convenience that doesn't stop gameplay. One kills gameplay dead if not implemented. Both could be implemented better given more dev time and resources.

also today, we've had "if you want instant transfer play another game" and "casuals are ruining this game with calls for instant transfer". I'd swing that around: if you want to play an accurate space-simulator, Elite isn't it. Never has been, and never will be. And I've been playing it since 1984. Go fire up Space Engine or Celestia or even Kerbal if you want physically accurate space sims. Elite is a GAME. Like Star Citizen and No Man's Sky and countless others. it has game mechanics. Most of which aren't accurate or makes sense.
"mechanic which renders half of the existing game irrelevant"
the only part of the game it renders irrelevant is buying a hauler and making 30 jumps to another station to pick up your other ship, then selling the hauler. THAT IS ALL. If that is "half of your existing game" then you NEED instant transfer more than I do![]()
They're removing nonsensical imagery now? Dang, there goes my whole shtick on these forumsBecause the image was removed as not relevant, I'll reiterate in words that this thread is an example of the Slippery Slope Fallacy.
One of the best replies on this topic so far. +rep Elite is an arcade game with lots of space magic; it's far from a sim. IMO the decision should be ship transfer or no ship transfer. The timer adds nothing but more delays in a game already full of unnecessary delays.
Yes. Question 3) Given the other avatars in the game, do we really really want to see our avatar? And question 4) If you are familiar with Fremen Still Suits, are there 'specialist parties' involving their use?
To the OP: Takes a lot of balls to say what you said.
Great job! Have some REP!
Balls? No. He was just putting his bitterness on display about the recent decision by Fdev to actually listen to a huge segment of the playerbase that doesn't want their beloved sci fi sim to become a half baked collection of casual Wii U mini games. Balls would be when King Leonidas kicked the Persian Herald to the curb.
