How I lost 60 million in a day.

I lost 6 pythons in one day (although I was able to rebuy all of them).
Python #1: wow, the NPC who interdicts me on this misson is incredibly powerful
Python #2: I bet I can take him
Python #3: I bet I can take him now that I know what he's doing
Python #4: Dammit, I can do this
Pythons #5 and #6: I was really, really having one of those days...

can't you get a loan for the rebuy cost?

i had a very similar episode recently in a FDS; i died and didn't have the rebuy cost but was able to rebuy my ship anyway, then i had to give 10% of all earnings until the loan was paid back.

Spent most of my weeks off playing Elite lately, day and night I've been running long distance cargo, many long hours back and forth in my Type 6. Don't get me wrong, I like my type 6. I have every upgrade for it I could find. It is streamlined for long range hauls and quick fuel scoops along the way.

Finally I saved up 60 million, and I bought a Python. I managed a few upgrades and away I went. This time I decided, since I've spent most of the game running cargo, I would try some of the other missions available. I tried a salvage mission, and went off looking for these signal sources. Unfortunately for me, I found one with about 6 Anaconda's loitering. They slowly turned to face me and by then I was turning to run away. My shields went down in a few seconds and once they were gone, my armor might as well have been paper. Unfortunately I was about 1 million short of spawning it back in, so I had to take the free Sidewinder. That's 60 million I'll never see again.

Back in my type 6, doing endless cargo runs, I feel like it's an episode of twilight zone or something. [haha]

When I first bought an Imperial Clipper, the most expensive ship my money could buy, I promptly rammed it into the wall inside a station (beign quite unfamiliar with large ship momentum) and came up short on the insurance.

Bad luck :( But you've got the right attitude and aren't ragequitting so rep for you :)

Couldn't you sell a Python Component at rebuy?

EDIT: +1 for seemingly taking it calmly.

Not many people know this. You can remove parts to lower the rebuy cost.
Removing a weapon or two would have covered the 1m.

unless he removed everything and still was 1m short.

OP, great attitude. When you're ready to buy your Python again, be sure to go to a station in Li Yong Rui's territory and you can get a 15% discount on the ship and outfitting. I've bought mine at Ray Station(?) in Diaguandri.

If it makes you feel any better, two days ago I deleted my save of an A-grade Fer-de-Lance and 170 million cash. I am now also in a sidewinder.

sorry for your loss. but grats, how you take it!

be aware, that NPC spawns are also ship-dependent (i personally dislike that a lot), so with a python you get FDLs and anacondas interdicting you - and you can't outrun them like in a t6.

Huh, the more you know.

So if I go to a HazRes with a FDL or a Python I'm bound to find lots of Condas?

REALLY!?!? Holy cow. I should get a low-rank fighter ship then.

Yes indeed, goemon is correct. It goes something like this:

Python: Federal Assault Ship, Federal Gunship, Fer-De-Lance, Anaconda
Anaconda: All of the above + Clipper
Cutter: all of the above + rare Cobra, Dropship and I think I got AspX few times
Corvette: Novice Cobra MkIII ;-(

So basically if you fly a bigger (or more expensive) ship you will have to deal with also high tier ships with ocassional noob.

I wish I had known sooner. It's both good and bad to hear.

It's posts like this which ruin my immersion! (But thanks!)

Also OP. That's the spirit!
And I still use my T6 occasionally. It's one of my favourite ships and I envy your opportunity to spend another month or two in it!
I recommend you treat it to a new paint job and maybe a cheerful bobblehead to remind you of all the good times!
I salute your can do attitude.

Well maybe it is immersion breaking to some point but imagine this... You fly a huge\high-tier ship but you get interdicted only with AI Cobras, Vipers, Diamondbacks, etc... You wouldnt even try to run or be scared of the fight. You would simply kill them within 30sec.

But on another note, it is also set up a bit weird because at the current model Combat Rank is also taken into consideration so if you fly Deadly\Elite Python to Cutter you will be interdicted by Dangerous\Deadly and even Elite high tier ships which can be really dangerous since they are engineered. Some more than others but if you do not have adequate weaponry and shields you simply need to run or risk it. But the risk is huge since some Deadly\Elites are just insane.

Some middle ground needs to be found. So it isnt predictable like it is now but also that 90% of interdicting NPCs are not tied to your Combat Rank so it can vary. Sometimes you get Competent but sometimes a Elite will find you...
