Genuine question: Why are imperial ships so popular?

If it's the looks then I'm weird.

You said it, I didn't.

Not only do they look great, they fly smooth, fast, and easy. Python drivers are jealous, and so the knock the Imp fleet.

Pearl is shell fish poop. And tbh, that is kinda what the Clipper looks like. A space plane with fish poop glued on the sides. And blue track lights circling the fish poop nuggets so you can't ignore them.

You must be one of dem jealous Python drivers I just spoke about. Shame!:D

Cutter: largest multi role in the game, largest ship in the game. Maximum basking, and enough shields and speed to be the perfect bulk trade ship. Also most beautiful butt in the game.

Clipper: perfect mining ship. Even stripped down, you can just boost away from interdictors. Awesome multi-role as well, basically a small Cutter.

Courier: basically a cobra mk3 only better in nearly every way. My favorite small ship.

iEagle: faster than yo momma at the buffet table.

I have to admit reading all this really has me wanting to get a Imperial Cutter. Course that's a ways off . I just got my Anaconda Tuesday or Wednesday haven't even bought paint for her yet .but yeah it would be pretty cool to have the Cutter bet the inside is awesome. Oh man all the Ranking missions god those things suck sure the cutter is worth it though

You really have to get used to how it handles if you plan on doing anything besides trading with it. Gotta learn to use that awesome speed to your advantage. Also grade 5 dirty drives are basically a must.

I haven't ranked up in Empire yet so I have none of their ships.

I kind of want the Clipper. I'd want it more if the names were swapped so there names would fit their sizes.

they look cooler. if i had to guess i'd say they were specifically designed to look cooler than the others to encourage players to go empire since many would be disinclined to do so because the empire may appear to many to be the 'bad guys', particularly because of their laws on slaves.

To be honest, I don't like any of the Imperial ships, in any way. And only the the look of Corvette for Federation.

All the best ships (IMHO) are rank free.
DBS, Vulture, AspX, Python, FDL, Anaconda.
Python and FDL being the best looking ships in the game (for me).

According to the Inara Stats i've seen they arent even that popular tbh. Most popular ship is the Asp, followed by Python and Anaconda.

The Imperial Ships have a certain appeal to them and a very nice to fly. And as others have mentioned they have a certain B5 Feeling attached to them. The Clipper is also in my opinion the best ship to fly in the entire game, as it feels like a fast small ship while in fact being one of the largest.
I also belive that the relative high rank u need for the Clipper is a major disadvantage to it, together with its tiny fuel tank (16t is very small for a ship of its size).

I have kicked around trying to get a Clipper - just for the speed...I like a fast ship - but after the ranking attempt I took a 6 week break from ED.
Torturous the attempt was...

B5's first season was not very good... Cheesy and cheap looking.

But from the beginning of the 2nd season up until the end, it became the greatest space opera of all time.

True about the 1st season but I was totally turned off until my wife enticed me to watch after she had gone through about 4 episodes. I actually got deeper into the show than she did.

It was a great show, my wife had a GF over one time and the opening music was playing during a season 2 episode. She thought it was some epic movie or something! At the time few TV shows had that kind of gravitas.

I understand that Empire ranking for the Clipper or Cutter may seem to be a grind for non-imperials.

That's good :D

If the main body looked less like a tubular air plane and more like a futuristic space ship, it would be 300% better.

LOL... look it up a pearl is...

A pearl is created from an oyster's defense mechanism, Layer upon layer of this coating, called 'nacre', is deposited until a lustrous pearl is formed.

Hard as nails and gorgeous... [yesnod] with beautiful curves like and Italian sports car...

Compared to the Federal offerings is there any wonder why people prefer the Imperial ships? At least the Empire doesn't fly ships that can be confused for apartment building. ;)

Good point. The Imperial ships look so good because the Federal ships are so ugly... apart from the Corvette, which looks more like an oversized Anaconda. Of course, all these comments are opinionated.

I think the other reason they "look good" to a lot of people is because the look is kind of familiar. They have that airliner look to them that we see in 2016. Who doesn't want to pilot their own airliner? (some won't but I'm generalising)

Yeah, technically not shell fish poop, more like a carbuncle or a cyst. Although I wonder if there's a closer equivalent. It's a response to a foreign substance.
