I'm Bored of this now...

I just realised I've barely played E:D in several months. I played a bit this weekend, enjoyed it, realised I had to go and change the laundry and logged out meaning to go back. Then forgot about it.

Last night I went to play it, but ended up firing up NMS instead. I wanted to play E:D, but wanted to play NMS instead.

So - does anyone have any suggestions as to ways I can reinvigorate my interest in E:D? - What do YOU do for fun in this game?

I think part of the problem is I fly an ASP Explorer. Which I've never got along with, so i'll probably exchange it for a Cobra MkIII (in kick- equipment levels!) which I enjoyed flying a lot more. Although I couldn't really tell you why this is the case, although the skiddy nature of the Asp's handling (even with dirty-tuning and lightweight equipment) doesn't help. Also quite tempted with a FAS, but can't quite afford a decent one yet. Mind you, the most fun I've had so far I had in my DBX - I just found the lack of storage a pain when you need to upgrade stuff or travel large distances.

Maybe I should try community goals?

playing enough NMS will fuel ED so hard, it made me frameship to the next galaxy.

after NMS, ED looks so pretty.

(what also helps is getting dirty thrusters on a FAS^^)

Elite is one of these games where you need to find your own way. I can't tell you what you need to do to have fun, because we probably don't share the same definition of fun.

This week I was in a civil war, so did a lot of CZ fighting, then I ran some contraband (weapons) into a supporting system.
Did a lot of material collection on the planet to support my weapons when I fight in the CZ and so on. Had a lot of fun.

Oh also extracted some intel from a base by taking down the security system and destroyed their power generator.

Loads of fun.

Go community section and look up some player group that you are interested and get on board with that. Doing stuff with others is fun and not possible in NMS. Also many player groups will teach you a lot about game mechanics (best builds, strategies if you go and join pvp group or about simulation behind the elite galaxy if you join group that do pve and support some faction).

I have no idea of what your usual play style is so...

I find too much of any ONE thing gets old after a while no matter how well done.
I mix things up.
Do missions for a while and, the moment it's feels grindy, I switch to mining, feels grindy, to trading. Same for long range smuggling. Rinse/repeat but always having fun.

The only thing I haven't done is serious exploring (and use a SRV) so I just saved enough to buy a ship for that courtesy of helpful advice here from other Cmdr's.

Another option for you (which I have done about 6 times this year) is a career restart.
Broke and in a Sidewinder makes everything new and exciting.

CGs are a good way to meet other commanders (though not this week probably - the combat ones have finished and only pirating remains - unless you wing up they will be tricky in an AspX or Cobra I'd think) - can also be a bit hairy in Open given they attract many players to one place in the galaxy ...

Other fun can be had working on the BGS in various ways - for example my faction in Teaka is embroiled in a civil war for the system right now so if combat is your thing then there are credits to be made over here. Alternatively you could try running missions for factions to improve rank - with an AspX you could look at the various long haul mission generating locations outside the bubble (good credits to be made at Sothis/Ceos I understand but cannot comment from personal experience).

So - all depends what you enjoy really, but you should be able to find something in any field really.

I laugh when most people mention only the graphics in comparison to other games " ED is sooo pretty" or " the graphics in ED rock"...... Isnt this an indicator that we have moved away from solid gaming and are now in the realm of "eye candy" and endless numbing grind. Anyone here remember the GOOD games where graphics were not so great but the gameplay rocked?

Roleplay with minor factions. Use your imagination. CGs are for those who have no imagination.

Loads of fun.

The issue I see here is the following

Went to a instance in space and hung around blasting ships for no reason other than credits. I got a mission to deliver some contraband and went to another system and easily got into the station with no challenge, so basically just flew there like I was just flying around normally, and at the base I attacked, I blasted some AI that were easy peezy.

I got ZERO coomendations for fighting in the "Civil War" and I even switched sides on a whim with no consequences.

The suspension of disbelief is ruined as is the immersion.

Simple - play what you find fun. I hadn't played ED for several months until recently because there was nothing that I was interested in and I don't want to burn out on it. Ive been playing Heart of Iron 4, Project Cars, Titan Quest, Minecraft - loads of games. I keep coming back to ED regularly and it is my most played game now. But that doesn't mean I keep playing it when I am fed up. And a lot of the time I read or watch TV or just talk to other people you know!? There is a certain addiction level with computer games that makes you feel somewhat guilty if you aren't playing them, but you need regular time away from the computer entirely for sanity. So chill out, leave ED for a few weeks until maybe the next patch hits, and perhaps come back fresh then.

I must get round to reading the EULA for ED. I've clearly missed the bit where it states "as you now own the game, you are required to play it even when not enjoying it. See our forums for advice on how this is to be achieved".

If you're bored of doing something. Stop doing it. Problem solved.

If it makes you feel better, after playing No Man's Sky it fueled my desire to play E D because of Elite's content and gameplay.

Yeah a weekend of No Man's Sky makes you quickly realise the true meaning of a mile wide, inch deep
I'm similar... came back to Elite hard after really trying to like NMS

Get yourself a VR setup.

Just cruising over a planet (in your ship or the SRV) will be enough, no additional action needed.
Or mine in a hazy, sunlit asteroid belt. I almost forgot to deploy my limpets.
Or go bounty hunting in a dense ice ring. BEAU-TI-FUL!

The fraction won the war, and gained a new station, the smuggling mission was fun because there was a lot of police scanning or trying to scan my ship.

Sure there are big holes in the BGS, and FD need to make the game more connected, however it was still fun and i could make the connections myself for now. When we get the FPS I recon it will be more connected in these matters.
