Transfer Poll Results

I'm glad you feel this is a positive experience because I was having serious doubts about the designers behind Elite Dangerous...this should have been a no-brainer.

Yes, it would have set a dangerous precedent if FD had made a poor decision...

I think you really underestimate how much time spent not doing anything engaging there is to fill. It's rather easy, unless you are fully engaged at all times. Which means that this is good for you, not so good for the people that aren't. That doesn't mean the game isn't for them, it means that what is meaningful and engaging to you might be mindless to others. If you think about it, you will understand, I know you are capable of understanding things that people do and you don't.

What I do see is a couple of minutes here, a couple there. Seriously, the only significant chunk of down time I have ever had was the few times I had to get to Dalton Gateway and the fifteen minutes in supercruise. I did that by choice though, and always check on station distances before I choose to go to them. Is it those short periods of a few minutes here and there that people are referring to? I understand that those can add up over time, but is it really necessary to have some sort of stimulation every second? I often find myself looking at system maps, planetary information, etc.

I was super proud of of during the Alpha and Beta. The sheer number of people on the forums since then has made it much harder to judge what kind of crowd we are now. I'm really happy about what these events are telling us about it.

What a relief

Now that we've been properly judged.

Im just glad the outcome, which ever way it fell, we pretty decisive. Had this been close to a 50/50 split it would have sent the place bonkers.

Anyway, it's done and dusted. I have no further use for this thread [praise]

But you can do something else with that time, no? If those are 5 mins you won't even care - you will just get ready and do some preparation. If those will be lets say 1 hour you can do few missions aside, source some coffee or medicine for faction.

If you really have to do something one and nothing else - ED isn't really suited for that, right?

5 minutes is the minimum. It will take as long as 100 minutes. That is a considerable waste of time in a game that excels at disrespecting a player's time.

Will you be holding a similar poll going forward to get an indication of acceptable transfer times?
100m across the bubble is a bit slow considering the speed we can fly them across ourselves.

The idea is that your ship will be docked onto another ship that then transports your ship. The time makes perfectly sense.

That said, I do hope in the future that we will have options.... Let me dream up somthing for you. :)

1) Ship Freighter; no limits regarding distance, slow, expensive but 100% safe (pretty much what we will get soon).

2) Hire an NPC that flies the ship to the location; jumprange/fuelscoop etc matters, rank of the pilot and distance will determine cost and risk, fastest way of transfer as it will buckeyball as quick as possible, but can suffer from interdictions depending on the reputation the hired NPC has. No cargo allowed.

3) Allow your NPC Crew to jump into your other ships at the station and fly your ships to the different locations (or the same location). Jumprange/Fuelscoop matters, as well as the rank of the pilot to get out of interdictions etc.! Make sure to go to those locations and pick them (the NPC Crew that is) up afterwards though (if different locations); Cargo will be allowed, but it increases the interdiction chance and the cargo will not be sold until you arrive to the station. 50% of the earnings will go directly to the NPC Crew salary and can't be used for CGs (only the ship you fly will contribute to the CG).

4) NPC Crew wings up with you (the wing can be up to 3 NPCs + yourself) and you are escorting your ship(s) to the destination and the jumprange will be limited to the ship with the shortest jumprange. Note, if you wing up with all three NPC Crews, you will not be able to have NPC-driven Ship Launched Fighters. Allows cargo, but 50% of the earnings will go directly to NPC Crew salary and can't be used for CGs (only the ship you fly will contribute to the CG).

Some dreams I have.... :D

40,000 votes though is really something.

Can we get a second vote though? Just thought I'd ask, I feel so trendy and hip now :p

V2k

I do hope that was a general observation and not a dig,
Not a dig at you. I've just been observing the rather 'unique' reaction of some posters in this thread in how they chose to express themselves as 'validated and morally correct' at the expense of the 'losers' even though there never was a right answer.

I saw your post as a good general observation and decided to add my own general observation below it :)

I could probably finish the rest of Sons of Anarchy that I need to finish with the time I notice that doesn't need my full attention. The time is amplified if you are an Explorer doing jumps to a new section of stars, a trader doing runs, a miner waiting for limpets to fill your cargo, super cruising to a station... The list goes on, there is most certainly time for multi-tasking. I don't see it as a problem and yes, some people do need stimulation every second. We're in an age where that's possible, so it's done.

I respect the decision of the poll. However this is where I will probably be calling it on Elite Dangerous for a while; there are already numerous artificial timesinks (entering the docking bay after landing but not being able to interact with menus, not being able to interact with menus when in hyperspace etc). It's all a bit staccato for me I'm afraid. I appreciate what you are trying to achieve here, but I'm time limited - there are other games that require attention as well as work to pay for them. I'm sorry, but I'm just not prepared to have a quality of life feature deliberately neutered for effect - the mere existence of the feature will necessarily break the immersion. I think EVE's notion of capsuleer conscious transmission is more elegant a workaround for what is, ultimately, just a quality of life feature.
Sorry it didn't work out for you. Have fun in EVE!

Yep. While I'm trying to get the mission board to refresh. Nothing like docking at a station that I'm fully aligned with only to find 2 or 3 missions, or better yet ZERO.

Thankfully I never do that. if there is no mission, I will do a trade run instead, or some bounty hunting. But if that is how you enjoy playing the game...
