The Voiceattack Discussion Thread

Sadly not - this was just a suggestion to VA's developer (who also liked the idea) so it's not actually implemented yet.

Ah ok, that d make sense. Nevermind, Im having a blast as is!

I havent found a way to map joystick buttons either. Presume that is also not supported yet?

No, not supported. Again the developer has looked at joystick support a couple of times but turned away before fully committing. That's not to say he won't in the future however. In the meantime, you can use other programs to achieve same effect.

For example I have a joystick. I have VoiceAttack and the 1.1 alpha. I wanted to use a joystick key to toggle flight assist off/on. Fine, I can do that on the joystick just using the in-build game key remapping facility. However I wanted a vocal confirmation of the action. You can set VA to press the toggle on/off key you've bound on the keyboard and simply say 'flight assist off' or 'flight assist on' to activate that key and give a vocal response.

All well and good, but not completely satisfactory. I am now using Joy2Key (a free joystick to keyboard mapper thing) as well as Voice Attack. I map two joystick buttons to the game's button mapping for flight assist toggle - I then use Joy2key to map the joystick buttons to keys. I then tell VA to respond with 'flight assist on' on 1 key and 'flight assist off' for the other. I press a joystick button - joy2key picks it up, maps it to a key. VA picks up the key's been press and gives me the correct response. Of course, because it's a toggle and not a perfect system it's easy to get the keys round the wrong way and mess things up, but it's simple enough to clean up and with some practise it's working fine.

It means I have to carefully use one button for on, one button for off but I'm kinda liking it like that. There are probably better/easier ways to achieve the same thing, but this is working for me.

Voice Attack heads up

While configuring some new Vap's I was chatting with my brother on TS. During a flight test I told my brother to yell a couple commands and sure enough my ship executed them.

I had him try this in various configs from headphones, mike only, combo and other sound setups and folks need to have a toggle for their VA. There are threads on Setting up VA for not listening but for those in combat, or in some other fluid situation I suggest using other keywords other than the obvious ones for known commands or vanilla commands.

It was pretty funny to be flying around through the asteroid field and have my brother put me in full stealth mode. Having to reboot for those few seconds can be bad in combat.

So, be aware in voice channels where people like me will be waiting to do this.... :D

Interesting...

I could set up skype on my PC and mobile phone, play while I am at work...

... and no work was done today!

Easy fix. Play with headphones. Mute the other players unless you want to chat. Lower the sensitivity of the microphone (available in control panel/sounds) No worries.

From VA's page and how I have mine setup when I am on TS.
I have TS set so I can just talk free, when I want to give a VA command I hit button on my mouse, it puts TS in mute, then tells VA to listen to my command. When I release I am back to normal TS mode.

Sometimes you really don't want VoiceAttack to recognize what you are saying. Especially if you are in a noisy area or are using voice communication software.
You can now make VoiceAttack start or stop listening with your mouse buttons (the five standard mouse buttons : right, left, middle, forward & back).
For this example, we are going to make VoiceAttack start listening only when we hold down the middle mouse button :

From the VoiceAttack main screen, click on the 'options' button.

Drop down the 'Mouse Click Global Hotkey' list.

Select the, 'Middle Down Listen' option.

Click, 'OK' & you are set!

Could you also have VA stop listening with a single word command 'halt' or 'listen'. So you could continue with TS or what ever. And then obviously you'd need to press that button to start it listening again.

Voice Attack

Can someone knowledgable help me with configuring Voice Attack please?

I've managed to achieve some basic things - weapons/systems/engines/balance/power/stop etc. However, VA is set to "active window", which means I have to keep closing it when I type on the forum or my posts get littered with macro commands :/ Also, I can't seem to control how quickly a command is acknowledged...if I say "weapons weapons", it doesn't trigger twice, it simply says it can't recognise a command called "weapons weapons"!

Finally, I'd really like to configure VA to deploy/retract landing gear, but that's beyond my skills...the bind key in game doesn't seem to work, so it seems to require a macro.

Any advice please?

Thanks,
A3

Go on to google and search for voice attack elite dangerous. You'll find a pdf thats available for download that should tell you everything you need. I tried to copy and past the link here but my computer wouldn't let me for some reason.

Voice attack and how to use it?

Just wondering how to use/activate/receive voice attack? It gets kind of drab thumbing through the consoles constantly. Thanks in advance! :)

Voice Attack Rocks!

Bought VoiceAttack today for $8 and it's working like a charm.

I've got ";" mapped to landing gear and the voice command "ship landing gear" assigned to the ";" key. Works a treat. Prefixed everything with "ship" so it knows it's a command and not just me commenting on my Twitch stream.

SHIP TARGET PANEL, SHIP HYPERDRIVE etc. Super cool.

It needs to know when phrases start, so pause before you speak the command. For instance "Hey ship hyperdrive please" will be an unrecognised command (unless you've added that string as a command)

Considered posting a link to my exported commands but part of the fun is setting it all up how you like it. ;) If this is what you want I can happily forward it to you.

Voice Attack

I bought it, and it's a really cool (cheap) addition.

However, I really can't wrap my head around how to pull off some of the more intricate commands.

In one of the videos, (can't find the link right now,) the Cmdr was ordering "Combat Shields" and "Combat Weapons." This would Pip up their Weapons to full and their engines to what's left over, or their shields to full and their weapons to what's left over.. etc.

He was also able to power down everything in different increments.. etc.

My problem is that it only seems to me that you can do these things if everything else was set at a pre determined level.

For example, if I wanted 'Combat Weapons,' and that meant I wanted my weapons at full, and say, my engines set at what's remaining, since all voice attack does is press buttons for you, you would have to know what level everything was at before you gave the command, or everything would go wonky.

Am I right here? i.e. Would I have to give the command for 'Balanced' before I gave the command for 'Combat Weapons?'

I hope this wasn't too confusing. I really don't see the need for Voice Attack for anything else but adjusting power settings, and I just can't grasp how to make them work the way it looks in the video!

You don't need to give a VA command for balanced before 'Combat Weapons' as such, just make sure balanced is the first keypress in your VA command 'Combat Weapons'.

e.g. the keypress / macro might look like:

Balanced
Weapons
Engines
Engines
Engines

To give you full power to engines, with the remainder in weapons.

Hopefully that makes sense. You're on the right track I think.

Oh for Pete's sake....

How did I not realize that?

You know, with a college education and 30 years of video game experience you'd think I could figure things like that out on my own!

Thanks, Solace!
