So we're half way through September...

Potentially 4 weeks to the release of 2.2.

Here's to hoping we get a restart of the Dev Updates (not since March have we seen one :(), if not then at least a specific announcement about the Beta.

Though honestly I expect it'll just be another week with a pointless newsletter.

i actually thought 2.2 was launching in 4 weeks rather than going into beta in 4 weeks, however with no more news about how things are going, i am beginning to think it is beta in the middle of october.

if not then, they need to get a wiggle on if they want to have enough time to make any changes bought up in beta.... if so however then saying a mid october launch for 2.2 was actually not really true imo.

I say this as someone who looked forwards to the Thu dev updates, but isn't there just an element of drip feeding things we'll get in live streams prior to launch (2.1) or in a big news splat (2.2 /gamescom).

I'd much prefer mini making of features.

fd there is no communication that is sad and incomprehensible. and considering the developments of this year is limited to the horizon dlc well (if we are lucky) to nearly half of the promised content. on the ship transfer we will indeed have to wait until 2.3. I'm afraid we will not get to this other game in November will be published. Here at Elite Dangerous at first you do not continue.

I can't really comprehend your comment, but I think FD have done a good enough job this year.

They've not stated anything other than Ship Transfer may be delayed to a minor release after 2.2 (EG 2.2.02)

Nothing has changed in the previously announced release date of mid october for 2.2, therefore there has been no further comment.

I can hardly imagine the player the horizon bought and only half get in a year nor any interest have probably yet another dlc to buy. I've got real doubts whether this continues for a long time. but maybe everything is all right. I can only believe that at the moment rather not.

There's various approaches to the complete Silence.

Optimist : No news is good news! They must be doing stellar and don't need advice nor any assistance. And when it's done(tm), it'll release bug-free, they delayed it only to ensure it's being delivered at 100% quality.

Indifferent : I'll see when my Launcher asks me to update the Client...

Pessimist : Months in the pressure cooker and still nothing new to show. They must be behind big-time. Hope they don't cancel out too much content before they present their new mountain of bugs for us to fix for them - which they'll only do to ~50% anyway.

Hater : They're dead in the water and they know it. This is their last straw and in their desparation they give it a final attempt to make it count. Oh how futile...

Lover : Can't wait until they release all the shiny new surprises! I'll take whatever they hand me and embrace it :) :) :)

Fanboy : I think I'll buy 5 more Paintpacks - surely this will accelerate their Development process. Might even get me the Ship I purchased the Paintpacks for, I wonder how it flies...

:D

PS.
I don't remember how the Update/Information flow was before V2.1 and V2.0.
I kinda think it all started picking up 1-2 weeks prior Beta (?)
One thing is for sure - we'll be there to see it all in due time :)

:) I'm just speculating/hoping for news given we're 4 weeks (potentially) before release.

As for how it used to be, there's a whole sub-forum as a lasting legacy of what we used to get: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php/167-Dev-Updates

"Dev Updates", they were good days where we used to get reliable weekly conversations with the devs :)

1: If anything the insertion of a delay in ship-transfer will help 2.2 be released on time, as the devs simply defer that portion of the update for a later release in a minor patch coming out before 2.3.

2: Whilst no dev updates per-se, there is the weekly newsletter. Though, I'll agree it could be more comprehensive and more focused on the things to come. For how to keep your audience happy and well informed on the evolution of the game, look at how Kerbal Space Program keep their community in the loop as it were. Or War Thunder. Those are just two examples of developers who do a great job with Community outreach - FD can learn a bit from them on how it is done.

3: I'm sure 2.2 is on track for the promised mid-October release. As we get closer to the deadline we'll get more news and details - as per usual with FD. They do like to play with their cards tight to the chest right up until they got the promised features more or less completed and good to go. Which I suppose is better than a string of broken promises. NMS anyone?

Darn, I almost had to Google that. "Dev Updates" :D

Yeah I remember those... Or Sarah and many others chiming in occasionally in the daily discussions... Good old times.

I'm assuming English is not your first language. Are you saying some people won't want to buy any more DLC because 1 single part of Horizons is running later than they assumed at the release of E: D?

I wouldn't hold you breath on a October release, more likely November at the earliest.

Not given the many times they announced a mid October launch during Gamescom. They'd be ing off a LOT of people......especially given how far they already are behind their original schedule.

With 2.1, we started to get some lovely "Road to Beta" sneak peaks about 3 weeks out from the release of 2.1 Beta. Now true they gave us sneak peaks during Gamescom, but it would still restore my hope if we started seeing 2.2 info in every newsletter between now and mid October!
