Newcomer / Intro Want a few hundred thousand credits to boost your funds?

Thanks both, delivered you two rep :)

I shy'd away from the CG's expecting it'd cost me a lot to get into and I'd wait weeks for the reward, given I've been trading lately so have a Type-6 I think I'll jump on it with this one!!

I'm relatively new and hadn't done any of the CG's as I read them as "deliver us the cargo for free" (so i spend say 100k on some cargo, then hand it over for no immediate return). Are you saying I buy cargo in one place, then sell it at the CG location (for a loss or profit) and that goes towards the CG goal???

In this CG (my first) I averaged somewhere between 110 to 120 CR per ton of explosives I delivered (the buy price fluctuated some). Add to that some 40K or so in bounty vouchers and I did okay. I could have made more than that delivering rare goods, but rare goods wouldn't have promised to pay out some 6.5 M CR (currently) at the end of the mission, either.

Note that you can support both sides (federation and Empire) in the Obotrima goal. If you drop off explosives and robotics you then have a standing in both goals. The Empire goal is currently offering a bigger payout at the end, but the fed goal offers more profit/ton. Of course, your own role-play stance may dictate which, if any, you take part in.

Sometimes there are rares CGs (although haven't seen them for a couple of months) where it's better to use smaller and faster ships such as a Cobra or AspX (with it's longer jump range).
That's due to the fact that rares are limited in tonnage and some rares can be illegal in certain jurisdictions so you need a faster ship built for smuggling.

You can claim the reward in person from the CG location mission board shortly after completion until around 2 weeks later when it will be paid into your account remotely.

There have been some CGs where there was little or no profit per tonne unless you where very picky about where you bought.

I forgot to address your concern about interdictions:

Yes you can get interdicted by NPCs (never do CGs in OPEN - too many idiots) on the run in to the CG station. The answer is to submit, boost, high-wake (hyperjump) into a nearby system then jump back and you should not be interdicted on this run in. The bookmark facility in the Galaxy Map is your friend here, I use it all the time to high-wake from bad boys.

Yes bookmarks are your friends in trade CGs, bookmark the delivery station then edit the bookmark name so it is top of the list I use AAA name, then bookmark your favourite supply stations and give the similar names AA Robotics AA Explosives etc.
Makes things much quicker and easier.

I like that renaming idea, I have never thought of doing that (I keep few bookmarks) - I'll have to give it a try.

One other case where a small ship can give you an advantage is where you find a good supply of the commodity you need at a close outpost. You can then just do speed runs between the two points without having to worry about the guys in the Anacondas and Cutters swooping in to vacuum the place dry in a couple-three runs.

Unless you have the medium-sized Python which you can, if you built it as a trader, have over 250 tonnes of cargo space and it can land at outposts. Vacuum nozzle is an optional extra. [big grin]

My Python due to my cowardice (won't run without adequate screening) only takes 260 tonnes, I haven't found the vacuum nozzle option yet but I have heard rumours of another varient of it which englobes the whole system without loss of suction.

I got myself a T7 over the weekend, packed out with 208T cargo space. Think I might take a few runs at this one tomorrow night, if it's still going.

Just make sure you unbind the key that changes her from Suck to Blow. :D

Managed to ferry over another 280 tons of explosives for the Empire tonight, bringing my total to 2,392. Still hanging on to top 25%. It should hit Tier 7 overnight.

If I can keep this up, I think I'm going to buy and outfit a T-6. This is what I'm thinking I'll start out with -

If it's going to go as well until now, maybe even an Asp. :)
But T6 is sweet, of course. On of my all-time favourites and my current exploration vessel, actually.

Just dropped here to say big thanks to OP! I knew there are these Community goals where you could earn some cash but thought they are too complex to go into at this point (quite new player here). After this post I realised I just need to travel some 70lys and start trading, now at top 75% in Colonia connection CG, today going to continue, target is to reach top 50% :)

If everything goes well I'm going to upgrade my Adder to Cobra much sooner than I thought.

Glad you are enjoying it. Just remember that the Colonia Connection CG is a 4 week one (they are usually only 1 week long), due to finish on 13th October, so don't get downcast if it doesn't actually finish early (when it reaches the top tier) since the 2.2 / 1.7 beta might draw away many participants / contributors.

Yeah, I noticed the ending time and also that those other two are ending already this Thursday so I just traveled to Obotrima and I'm now doing CG's there first.

Normally CGs are scheduled to run from 15:00 game time on Thursday till 15:00 game time the following Thursday, the ones involving Jaques are an exception and typically run for 4 times as long. There have been a few exceptions but those are the usual schedules.
