Title: Kamadhenu Inquisitor embroiled in Kahina Loren scandal

Location: Galnet (or Kamadhenu, Hisaaka, Nemgla, Achenar, Prism, Malaikudi, HR 6421)

Time: Thursday 29 September 3302

Description:

An Inquisitor of Kamadhenu's Chapterhouse of Inquisition was briefly detained for questioning by security forces at Dawes Hub in the Imperial capital system of Achenar this week.

The Inquisitor, Commander Nodus Cursorius, is a known member of the enigmatic Children of Raxxla organisation, which although not yet a proscribed group under imperial law has been designated a terrorist cell by sections of the media. This follows the criminal accusations leveled against their benefactor, Prism's former Senator-at-large Lady Kahina Tijani Loren, who now styles herself Commander Salomé.

An unnamed source within the Chapterhouse confirmed their Inquisitor was released after intervention by a high ranking Kamadhenu patron. The detained pilot had been in Achenar as part of an Inquisition delegation seeking legal observer status to attend Lady Kahina's upcoming hearing.

Nodus Cursorius hit the headlines weeks ago when he received a distress call from Commander Salomé herself, as she was detained by the Internal Security Service.

Title: Militia Fights for Free Science

Location: GalNet, Maia, or systems close to AB-W B2 System

Time: Any Time

Article Body:

The Militia for Independent Research is a group of independent pilots who banded together little over a week ago led by CMDR Blade433 to address the problem of superpowers taking control of research sites. The most recent case of this which spurred the MIR into action was the Imperial blockade of the "Unknown Crash Site" in the Pleiades Sector. Outraged by this apparent abuse of military superiority, a fleet of 22 MIR commanders was hastily formed to launch an assault on the Imperial capital ship INV Dreadnought. MIR leader CMDR Blade433 made a statement about the crash site: “We believe that since [unknown sites] are not of human origin, that humans have no right to claim control over them, and that if anyone wants to conduct any form of research on them that they should be free to do so.”

The operation was scheduled for 9pm 25/9/3302 at the well-known Pleiades Sector AB-W B2-4 body.

The rally point was of course right next to the unknown crash site, directly under the INV Dreadnought’s nose in a steep canyon. Approaching the staging area the ship formation certainly resembled a militia. A rag-tag group of various ship manufacturers all clearly customised by independent pilots. Despite the lack of a uniform, the fleet was rather organised with teams devoted to specific roles in the operation: A main fleet, destroyers, and fighter hunters.
Once the launch order was called, the main fleet led the way towards the INV Dreadnought. The battle was smooth for the most part and commanders stayed on target. The Imperial escorts were outnumbered and outgunned, and the Dreadnought couldn’t keep the intensity up against the number of attackers. A small mishap caused by communications failure on CMDR Hepburn3d’s ship resulted in the blue-on-blue destruction of CMDR Jin Kusanagi and CMDR Private Hix. The incident was striked up to a technical failure by command and the commanders involved, so no action was taken.

Once the Imperial escort was dispatched the Destroyers began to knock down INV Dreadnought's systems one by one. With its weapons rendered inoperable, its heat relays were critically damaged until it was forced to frame shift out of the battle.
Post operation, MIR command claimed overall success, attributing its miscommunication faults to the recent formation of the organisation and commanders’ unfamiliarity fighting together. CMDR aT^ C had this to say: “[The Empire] can’t come and claim something that they didn’t discover or have anything to do with. We wanted to make that clear by assaulting the Dreadnought, which we succeeded in doing. We hope that the Empire will think twice before doing something like this again.” The MIR plans on continued support for scientific causes that have come under restriction by military powers.

MIR also responded to concerns that the assault on the INV Dreadnought could be perceived as being sponsored by the Federation or at least involved with their efforts. CMDR aT^ C insists that the MIR is and always will be an independent organisation: “We are completely independent and have nothing to do with any superpower. If this had been a Farragut we would have attacked it nonetheless.” The MIR is also not concerned about Imperial retaliation and notes that this operation will have little effect on the Empire at this stage.

When asked about the next step for the organisation, CMDR aT^ C commented: “We haven’t announced our new focuses yet, but we will do that somewhere in the future. The crash is now fully open to the public without any restrictions. We have put a few guards there to watch for any other events that will cause restricted access to the site. The wreck might be a threat in the future so we need every scientist we can get on the site.”

TITLE: Insidious imperial influence or a new opportunity?

DESCRIPTION:
Those of you you who are avid readers of our political pages will have noted the recent rise in our beloved system of the Praetorian Curiate Assembly. Who are they? What do they stand for?

Duke Alden Rowe, the Assembly's leader, has been happy staying in his estate in Luminous City on SPOCS 900 6; untill now. The PCA is now listed as a competing faction in the System, with a rating of 10.3% at the time of writing. Why the sudden upsurge in sympathy for Imperial rule? We interviewed some key figures in the system's space stations who might know more.

Administrator Louise Jorgenssen of Celsius Market said "The Federation has been here for a long time, it works for me."

However her opinion isn't universally shared: Thelma Dall of Whitelaw Prospect said "Look at the fighting all around us! The Feds don't do anything for us. I haven't got any debt, I'd welcome imperial rule."

We reached the Federal embassy on SPOCS 900 6 for comment. Envoy Saul Khachatryan of the Democratic party had this to say: "It's just another attempt by backward Imperialist to destabilise a functional Federal Government."

In reponse, a representative of the Curiate Assembly, Esquire Taliyah Duffy, said "There is growing sympathy for Imperial rule in SPOCS 900, and I'm not suprised. There is two armed conflicts happening right now; conflicts that the Federation is unable or unwilling to stop. I look forward to the peace and prosperity the Assembly will bring with them."

Polls are now open for the upcoming elections between the Assembly and the traditional Autocratic Party. If the Assembly wins, they would get the exclusive administration of a space station in the System.

DESCRIPTION:
At the commemorative event marking the anniversary of the commissioning of Loren’s Legion, Oksana Gora, a reporter for the Prism Herald, took the opportunity to inquire as to how the incarceration of Senator Kahina Tijani Loren affects Prism’s security and political dynamic within the Empire. Cornelius Gendymion, commanding officer of Loren’s Legion, answered the query.

“I am confident his excellency Ambassador Delaney will soon address the topic of Prism’s place in Imperial politics, so I will withhold comment on that subject. With regard to security, historical regional foes still represent the greatest threat to our people. For the time being, priorities currently remain focused on conflicts with anarchist elements threatening various systems throughout the sector. Domestic forces remain on alert in Prism to respond to civil unrest as needed. In short, it has been some time since Senator Loren's influence was felt here. Current events have yet to alter that.”

Title: Local pilot completes galactic crossing in an Imperial Eagle

Location: GalNet or 21 Draco

Time: As soon as possible

Description:
After 9 months of travel and nearly 325,000 Ly covered, CMDR Draco25240 has returned to civilization again after crossing the galaxy onboard his Imperial Eagle, the PFS Asylum Express. Departing from Chilton Terminal at the end of 3301, he set out into deep space to see how far he could push his ship, visiting several tourist destinations during his voyage, including Sagittarius A* and Beagle Point. Now, 9 months later, he was spotted entering inhabited space again, heading in the direction of his home system of 21 Draco.
Reporters, spaceship specialists and psychiatrists from the local mental health service arrived on scene shortly after touch-down at Chilton Terminal, but were unable to get a comment, as the now Elite-ranked pilot had already left port, looking for new adventures. After a quick inspection, his now retired Imperial Eagle was declared a biohazard, and has been quarantined indefinitely.

If this were to qualify for GalNet, change the title from "Local pilot completes ....." to just "Pilot completes.....". Ship name can be removed from article if necessary.

Title: Secret Strikeforce Smashes Subterranean Slave Smuggling Scandal
Location: HIP 85244, Galnet
Time: ASAP

Description:
Hellrazer operations in the system came to a halt today as Marines in preparation for a lightning strike to seize control of the stations stumbled onto a political landmine.

An anonymous tip-off about a slaving operation had the Hellrazers scrambling to crash the auction this week in their attempt to bring Freedom and Order to the wartorn sector. What they found was worse then unregulated opportunistic slavery. Documentation was discovered that the Allied Movement had been secretly smuggling in Imperial Slaves to work the Agriculture and Industrial sectors. While Jet State has refused to take part preferring to employ paid workers, Silver Galactic IND was involved in using Slave Labor making them the dominate corporate force in the sector.

Such events were an eye opener for the Hellrazers to include Silver Galactic's hostility as Hellrazer presence in the sector means they will enforce the Federation's mandate of outlawed slavery and would affect their productive and bottom line. Jet State on the other hand saw an opportunity for market growth which is suspected why they seem to have run afoul of the local state approved Enforcers and are currently under siege.

Outraged Imperial Representatives, most notably the ISA, have demanded the return of the Slaves as by Imperial Law, Imperial Slaves are not to be sold outside Imperial Space with the closest Imperial controlled system over 200LY from HIP 85244 which is on the opposite of Federation space from Imperial Borders. "This is a clear violation of Imperial Law. We demand the Federation return those slaves to Imperial Space and the system in question be subject to retribution for this violation!"

Hellrazer Medical Personnel have protested. "These individuals are in very poor shape and many of them appear to have been here for quite some time. They are not fit for travel across the distances to return to Imperial Space." Lieutenant Colonel Maisya Shika, Hellrazer Chief Medical Officer said from an undisclosed location where extracted Imperial Slaves were being treated. "And more are coming in with each strike we perform."

Rear Admiral Adhock, Commanding Admiral of the Hellrazers, agreed to meet with ISA representatives to negotiate the return of the Slaves while they were being medically treated before being cleared to travel. "As much as I would love to cut these people loose, there's enough problems between the Empire and the Federation. More importantly, many of these individuals have expressed a desire to willingly return to Imperial Space. Many of which because they wanted to return to their homes and families. I will not deny them this right to choose their own fate."

We do usually ask that submissions be no more than 150 words long. Perhaps you could cut the first half and just focus on the aftermath of the attack?

Duly noted, here's an edit that comes under that:

Title: Militia Fights for Free Science

Location: GalNet, Maia, or systems close to AB-W B2 System

Time: Any Time

Article Body:

The group of commanders known as the Militia for Independent Research (MIR) launched an assault on the Imperial blockade over the “unknown crash site” last week at 9pm 25/9/3302. MIR aimed to drive the Imperial capital ship INV Dreadnought out of the area and restore free access to scientists of any allegiance.

The Dreadnought was successfully routed to the Facece system for repairs. Two MIR casualties were reported as friendly fire after a communication systems error.

Imperial commanders have claimed the Dreadnought’s purpose was purely peace-keeping and that free access was available to “non-hostiles”. The MIR responded citing commander reports of Imperial aggression at the site, many of these from pilots who later joined in the assault.

The MIR dismissed claims that the assault was sponsored by the Federation, suggesting plans for further operations against the Federal “barnacle” cordon in the Merope system.

Description:

As work continues on the Colonia fuelling stations, troubled restaurant chain 'White Dwarf Chef' has asked leading culinary engineer Nestor Bulmington for help when Latugara PLC officials suggested the company lose its lucrative fuelling station franchise due to falling profits.

Speaking from his converted Orca restaurant 'The Chubby Eagle', Nestor talked excitedly about his involvement:

"After long flights commanders will love nothing better than hearty Giant Irukama Snail porridge, or Karsuki Locusts with Jaroua Rice. Seeing the travesty of overpriced printed food in these stations, I'm sure travellers would welcome the change."

However, some pilots were not impressed. One remarked:

"If I've flown billions of miles dodging pirates and stellar hazards, the last thing I want is snail porridge- give me rehydrated bread and printed bacon sandwiches any day of the week. I don't care if it costs fifty credits and is made from algae, its what transport pilots want."

Title: Fugitive MetaDrive employee Raan Corsen located by Earth Defense Fleet

Date: As soon was possible (discusses current events)

Location: Galnet (Alt: Okinura, Chi Orionis, Sirius, LHS 2088)

The Earth Defense Fleet's continuing manhunt for former MetaDrive employee Raan Corsen met with success today when, acting on an anonymous tip, a full wing of EDF pilots led by the fleet's Homefront Director, Commander Marcus Kross, located Corsen’s Imperial Eagle on the surface of first planet of the second star in the LHS 2088 system.

Kross and his team approached Corsen and attempted to engage him in conversation. Corsen refused to answer direct questions and, when Kross mentioned taking Corsen into protective custody, the Imperial Eagle launched and began to rabbit from the scene. An intense chase ensued but the team chose not to interdict their target out of fear of further alienating the fugitive.

"EDF simply wants information," Kross said. "I offered Raan Corsen our protection but he refused. Our next encounter will unfortunately be less polite as we will attempt to disable his ship if necessary to force him to comply with our directives."

The anonymous source that led to EDF's encounter with Corsen indicated that the fugitive may be carrying some form of illicit cargo. Commanders wishing to join in the hunt for Corsen are being asked to carry a cargo scanner in an attempt to determine if he is in possession of stolen MetaDrive technology.

TITLE: Imperials Chide Militia for Independent Research

DESCRIPTION:
The Imperial Herald was granted an interview with Imperial tactician Alexis Corvus following news that the newly christened “Militia for independent Research” assaulted the INV Dreadnought in Pleiades Sector AB-W B2. Corvus stated:

“The Militia for Independent Research earned one third of its name this week, but the assault on the Dreadnought will only serve to damage their reputation with the Empire. The Merope Expeditionary Fleet has confirmed the construction of a permanent Imperial research facility on Pleiades Sector AB-W B2-4 was not affected by their actions.”

“MIR surely recognizes the time to act in Merope was when the Farraguts were deployed, before their logistics were secure, and before they depleted the barnacles in Merope. An attack now would achieve nothing. Imperial influence in Pleiades Sector AB-W B2-4 is in this early phase. Though they claim to be independent, the timing of MIR’s assault reveals their true priorities and loyalties.”

22 SEP 3302 - New Imperial Base in Pleiades Sector Ab-W B2-4
The Merope Expeditionary Fleet has been tasked with constructing a new forward operating base in the Pleiades Sector Ab-W B2-4 system on behalf of the Empire. The new outpost will support the Empire's ongoing operations in the Pleiades Nebula.

We Should Have Listened to Dr Lorax
Despite President Zachary Hudson's claim that the purpose of the Federal deputation in the Merope system is to protect the non-human structures, independent pilots report that the system's barnacles have been entirely depleted.

Commander Vindicator Jones shared his observations:

"Just went to Merope 5c to check out the barnacles. They've been destroyed. I've tried visiting several, but they're all barren."

TITLE: Federal Navy Restricts Access to Palin Research Centre

DESCRIPTION:
Professor Ishmael Palin, who retired from active research into Unknown Artefacts in April 3302, is currently playing host to the FNS Gellan at the Palin Research Centre in Maia. Independent commanders, even those with Federation leanings, have reported being turned away from the facility by the Gellan and its escorts. Some have even reported warning shots fired to dissuade their approach.

Since his retirement, Palin has expressed continued interest in Unknown Artefacts. Independent commanders reportedly bring fragments of UAs to his research facility in Maia every day.

It is unclear at this time why the Gellan is restricting access to the Palin Research Centre, but many suspect the deployment is part of the Federation's bid to construct a new base in Maia. When approached for comment, Federal Navy representatives claimed the Gellan is “just passing through.” A comment could not be obtained from Professor Palin in time for this publication.
