So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

6312. Where does that come from then?

Sorry. 6361.

Where does that come from then?

So, the latest Galnet is saying that this: OTSEAFOTSEAF is an encryption? The plain text must be the key but still I'm not sure what could be encrypted in 6 letters that repeat.

These sorts of encryption puzzles are not my strong suit. So are you suggesting the whole EAFOTS thing may be misinterpreted and is actually an encryption? If so, it's no coincidence there's an EAFOTS sector attached to the H&S nebula, so it would have to still involve that sector somehow.

This is a copy/paste of my post in the other barnacle's UA thread.
Maybe it will get picked up better here :

Okay since i'm new i cannot edit my posts just yet, so it seems.
I did found nothing at BK Camelopardalis, but along the way i did some thinking and some searching.
And here is what i've found.

The vain queen rides a giraffe that remembers her daughter's hero.'

If indeed the vain queen is Cassiopeia,
the giraffe is Camelopardalis,
the daughter Andromeda
and the hero is Cepheus (Andromeda's father) instead of Perseus.

What do we get??
To find out, I've digged into chinese astronomy, because why not?
Now here is where it gets intresting :

There is a thing such as the purple forbidden enclosure in chinese astronomy.
The Purple Forbidden enclosure (紫微垣 Zǐ wēi yuán) is one of the San Yuan (三垣 Sān yuán) or Three Enclosures. Stars and constellations of this group lie near the north celestial pole and are visible all year from temperate latitudes in the Northern Hemisphere.
Notice the Northern visibilities all year?

If we combine Cassiopeia, Camelopardalis and Cepheus we get *BADUM TSSS*
The guest house -> representing
*WELCOME ANCIENT PREMISES*

You can look it up here :
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purple_Forbidden_enclosure

The guest house constellation should have 9 stars.
But i cross-searched everything and these are the stars worth checking out :

This one just for giggles (just imagine)
NGC 457 is another open cluster in Cassiopeia, also called the E.T. Cluster, the Owl Cluster, and Caldwell 13. The cluster was discovered in 1787 by William Herschel. It has an overall magnitude of 6.4 and is approximately 10,000 light-years from Earth, lying in the Perseus arm of the Milky Way.

Nice one. Got at the same place 1min too late XD.we are indeed dealing with references to constellations : Cassiopeia, Camelopardis and Perseus.

These actually have a shared point (triple boundary). We might be looking for something there (red circle) :

The star at the center should be HD 20041 / HIP15192, but I'm not 100% sure about that (it's the only major star of perseus that seems at the right place, so 99% sure).
It's only ~500 pc away though. It could be a rather solid lead as it has the propery of being nearly on the galactic plane :
gal :

+141.57 -00.41

I would suggest looking for stuff near that line.

We could also interprest Cassiopeia riding the giraffe as the part of Cassiopeia where it is "above" (riding) Camelopardis, near IC 342.

I think the clear text is the clue. An astronomical one.

Most of those stars are either in/near the human occupied space bubble, or only halfway to the Rift area. And for some reason HD 24480 is HR 1205 in the ED galmap.

OTSEA etc could be the key rather than the message?

I was thinking that as well, but the wording in the Galnet article leads me to believe that was the encrypted piece. I was trying ROT13 on various things since that was the EB, P solution but couldn't get anything that made sense out of the various letters/words/etc I tried.

Of course, I was not very good with figuring out encryption stuff in a network security class for network management so I'm most likely missing a lot.

I agree, but, IMO we are clearly given an astronomical clue. Also, given the distance, said clue has to point at something with a galactic latitude within +/-3°
There is not tons of stuff near 140° long / 0° lat.

I'm not convinced by the guest house. But the area to look at is pretty clear.

I think you are onto something, I just don't know how it ties in. I think it points the way, so it is worth investigating as a potential "compass heading" at the least if not having more such as visiting each system may have clues? Dunno, so far everything has led us to just the area of the Rift - or the general area of it - but not much more.

Great work though, I'm very impressed.

Looking at the star systems Muetdhiver posted most of the HD star systems are about 20/25 degrees offset from the R-R line but pointing towards H&S. The Cass ones are clustered in close to the human space bubble and are more around the RR line.

So "reading between the lines" what we could be looking for is between H&S and the R-R line out to where the stars thin out.

This is of course completely off hand and in no way "this is something!" just tossing it out there for all to nibble on and spit it back out if/when it is completely off base.
