Mobius population

Mobius is definitely the place to be for community goals - the hot spots are always populated too.

That said, there's nothing like the fear of seeing a human Python lure up behind you in SC and you have to decide whether to jump away or assume it's just another trader.

Scariest moment for me was searching for a landing spot at a tip-off site in my AspX and realizing there was CMDR in a FAS 500m away.
When I create my avatar he's going to be wearing brown trousers, specifically for moments like that.

Talking about totals or a 'generally online count' on a weekly rolling basis?
Generally online at any given time seems more useful.

There may be near 30,000 registered, but it seems like there's far, far less active. Also, IMO, 'logged on in the last 6 mos' is not active. By that count, if I log on once in the last six mos, I'm considered active.

"Active", to me, is a commander that has 'logged on 3x or more during a given week'.

I don't know what kind of numbers you have access to though, so maybe it's not possible to derive that info.

Your definition of active cuts me off in any mode. I guess you might treat me as a second class Elite citizen because I don't play as often as you do...

I don't often play Elite, but when I do, it's in Mobius.

I've recently tried Mobius, fewer "adjudication server" and "matchmaking server" errors than in open. Probably because the Mobius servers are split into US and Euro so there's less chance of getting a high latency australian/pacifica server user which for some reason north east coast US can not instance with.

C'mon man. No.

The only reason I am interested in what the population level is, is because it somewhat determines my chances of seeing another commander, which is the reason I would log into Mobius instead of solo. In that sense, someone who logs on once in 6 mos doesn't really improve my chances of seeing them, but they have been included before when saying what the 'active' number of cmmdr in Mobius is. Someone who logs in 2 or 3 times is, generally, more likely to be seen.

And if you are going to say '...but when I do...', I'm pretty sure you have to use the dos equis guy meme. :)

Ta-da....

There are no Mobius servers.

Otherwise you are right, due to the fact that you've been grouped with others in your region as being able to see them.

Mobius is just a name. We do not have special servers dedicated to the Mobius group. What you're experiencing is purely a placebo effect.

Actually I connected to "Mobius PVE" which is the US group, which should have a larger percentage of people using the Fdev's (amazon's) north american servers than the players connecting to the "Mobius" group which seems to be more Europe/Rest of world.

Even if connecting with Mobius PVE reduces by just half the amount of non american players I have to try and instance with it'd be a vast improvement. We try to match players with the same servers or at least the same continent to reduce instancing and matchmaking errors. I really hope FDev is aware about the how difficult it is to get an instance with a specific player if they're not connected to the same server.

If I try to instance with someone in australia I'm more likely to get a "Matchmaking error" than not. If I do get into the same instance it's likely we won't see each other, but simply see the wing beacon. If we do get to see each other's ships, it's a 50/50 chance that my fuel limpets will actually transfer fuel.

We've taken to recommending players use a VPN to bypass the amazon australian servers because of how awful they are.

There's a reason we ask where a player is from when we send out a rescue.

Wait? They have a website? And a US group?
I joined two Mobius groups and I've never seen a single soul in either in almost 1000 hours.

Funny you should say that because the moment I see the word mentioned I get triggered. [mad]

Since were here though, just curious what is the mean number of players who regularly use it compared to those who are members?

That said wouldn't it be less likely if it can only can match EU players with EU, that you are less likely to get matchmade with a 'bad' connection due to for example high latency between random US connection and random EU connection?

Try a CG in Mobius, you should find lots of commanders, admittedly with the occasional ghost town because of the instancing magic. If you still don't then others have found that issues with port-forwarding on their router can block people from showing up (no ide of the details about that though as mine works as-is).

Do you not have a day job or something? I swear every time I scroll the forums I see 3 threads posted by you on the first page.

I work from home. But actually I'm on medical leave at the moment recovering from a neurological surgery so I have a lot of free time for the next four weeks.
