I think I'm out too.

I'm off too....

To the other side of this Formadine Rift!!!! heading back to the bubble. Bring on the interdictions, my gun have been cold too long.

I jumped into my Type 7 for a bit. Bearing all the recent wailing and gnashing of teeth in mind, I upgraded the shields, added two mine launchers, and added some military grade composite hull armor. Went on a couple of trade runs, nothing special, earned about a million credits or so.
...I dropped a couple of mines in the Cobra's path and I think I heard them go off, andI started charging the frame shift drive....At which point three things happened: 1, my shields dropped from two rings to offline. 2, a shot took my hull from high nineties% to 43%, 3. A third shot sent my ass into space and turned my ship into wreckage. I mention again that this was a cobra. Before the update, an anaconda couldn't do that to my Type 7 freighter.

With that "combat" build, 3 shots is a possibility from from a Cobra. You can get 2x class 2 rails and put dumbfire missiles in the C1 slots. It will generate a lot of heat, but you can pump out about 180 MJ of damage per shot. That's enough to slaughter most T-7s.

That being said, there are quite a few things a T-7 could do to prevent this. You could slot more HRPs. You could use Point Defenses. You could use heat sinks and silent running, yeah I know it's a bit of a long shot in a big slow ship. But worth the attempt, at least to potentially lose a missile lock.

Here is an extremely tanky build that might help you do just that:

you just said whats wrong with ed now, cobras shouldent be that strong, maybe a vulture , not a cobra

The OP posted in frustration about being done with the game after suffering badly at the hands of an NPC, and after taking a deep breath and the advice of some more experienced combat/evasive manoeuvre pilot's re-assessed his situation, took the AI on once again with a clear head full of new knowledge...and emerged successful.

Bravo to the vets who took the time to advise a player who just needed some advice and understanding, and big huge bravo to the OP for sharing his experiences in detail and for triumphing; I'd be proud to have any of you as my wing mate:)

ARVEL, I will gladly take your account please. PM me with name and password. Thanks very much.

Dunni forget credit card, pin number, license number, bank number, national security number (or social security if you're one of those dirty americanos) and, uuh, SHOES!

I decided that since I hardly played any more, I might as well take the vulture for a spin.
Was on my second data delivery mission and a rather nice Deadly Cobra by the name of Cuppa Tea decided he wanted to steal my... cup holders? Leather seat covers?

I'm pleased to say that even after the update, the deadly cobra wasn't too much of a threat, and when he went boom my hull was on 87%. The engagement might have gone better if I wasn't so out of practice, but as it is, it was over fairly quickly.

What I don't get is I got one of those "warning, impulse attack" thingumies, and after I docked up and repaired I still had the weird icon that I assume indicates that my systems were still affected by it.

Wassat all about then?

You back :)

And, I have no idea either.

I'm assuming the symbol was closed brackets ( ), that means you have module damage, I think it will stay until repaired. Impulse attacks have three sized circles, but they disappear after the attack.

I got into this thread late.

I dunno really. The whole combat thing has really turned me off. However, after nine months out in the black and dreading a return to the bubble, I decided to buy a Python and turn my hand to mining (while continuing my CQC adventures afterwards).

I have been back in the bubble two weeks, I have my Python kitted out for mining but with a nice array of weapons too, I am mining, carrying cargo around and it's OK but I have been interdicted only once since I returned. I don't think that interdictor even got a shot in before I escaped.

So, I wonder, why have you had such a bad experience and I have not. I haven't taken any missions and maybe that's the key here. Just don't do them.

I do understand your frustration though. The thing that really sets this game apart, the unique thing it has, is the galaxy itself and just adding more ways to shoot at things is really disappointing but I, at least, seem to still be avoiding all that nonsense.

The big difference in experiences I would imagine is the ships you both were flying.

Impulse attacks usually mean you're getting hit with railguns.

You realize that at the time Horizons and the 2.1 AI dropped, they were bugged to be incredibly OP? Zac Antonaci described an NPC effect where engineered rail guns were firing at a pulse laser rate, and I can confirm that I not only had this happen to me (as did hundreds of other CMDRs), but with the bonus "fun" of that multi-module killing enhancement you can get on rails. My A-rated FAS was eradicated in seconds.

If you're not having this experience, you can thank the devs, who fixed the bug months ago.

I've had some dishearting moments myself. I recall a particular combat CG of not so long ago.
My FdL is a great combat ship, armored and armed to the teeth. I dispatch most NPC's with ease, and can take one heck of a pounding before I even start to sweat.
Dropped in to a Low CZ, racked myself up a nice number of Combat Bonds, turned them in, liked the payout and the jump to Top 25%.
Decided to go back and see if I couldn't make one of the top 10's.
Found a good spot away from the action, picked my faction, closed in on a lone enemy, locked on, subsystem targeted his power plant, loosed my first volley. His shields dropped, power plant to 30%, one more shot should cripple him, and...
"Under attack", "Under attack", "Under attack", "Under attack" - two wings of enemy fighters out of nowhere. I was rebuying before I ever saw them.
Ok, fair enough, I returned to the same CZ, same plan - move away from the action, pick a faction, pick a target and... I never even got to close my right-side panel before I was rebuying again.
That was my last venture into CZ's. Two rebuys in less time than it took to fly out to the CZ? And was now right about break-even with the bonds I'd collected?
I certainly wasn't liking it, I was disheartened to say the least. So I switched shiped, hauled freight, made back my losses, and by the time I even thought about that night, the GC was over, I still finished in the top 50%, made back my insurance premiums, spent a few days bounty hunting, just in case there was something I'd missed in my build. Nope, still crushed NPC's like eggshells. Still not anxious to support any more CZ's though, but that's ok too. There's plenty of cargo to haul, bounties to hunt, systems to explore... and I'm just fine with that.

The moral of the story: Don't give up, because NPC's suck, often cheat, and are given preferential treatment at all times.

It was the closed brackets that I saw on my HUD. I don't know why they should be there if they indicate module damage though because I repaired everything in the station and nothing showed up in my modules tab afterwards .
