This is now a sad thread.

I saw this in the patch notes and assumed:Except it doesn't. The Discovery Scanners still only show the wireframe of the planet. To get the map, you need to do a basic scan of the planet itself.
- Show planet surfaces in the system map without needing the surface scan
It means you dont need the DSS, any scanner will do. But you need to scan the planet itself.I saw this in the patch notes and assumed:
That it was a thing. I'll boot it up and check for myself then when it finishes downloading.

Sooo...basically it was to much to hope that I actually got a QoL feature I could use...ADS provides the map (as presumably so would BDS, IDS); DSS doesn't, correct. And yes we have to scan every landable body to get it's detailed map. DSS is still the same 'data' collector it always was.
edit: this is working as intended; whether this is what Mike, Sandro or the intern decided, is anyone's guess at this point. I think they are all super-tired and are basically unintelligible at this point.
So if I squint really hard I may find something of note?Well, the silver lining at least is that planets show a bit more detail on the system map, as well as rotate based on their actual rotation speed. For some of the more odd/interesting planets, they stand out at least enough to make you want to go and take a closer look.
Did some checking over various systems I've explored (fully and not) out towards Barnaard's Loop and found many of the interesting moons I'd visited, actually looked interesting on the default system map. That's a step in the right direction at least.
No, thats not it. Everything is like 2.1, except we now have a new detailed surface map. To get this extra map you need to scan the planet. So you still get all the info you got before, and you can get more info from scanning it.Let me get this right, when I jump in and honk (and I have ADS and DSS), it shows every body in the system but there's no way of telling what a body is until I SC up to it and scan it now?

Does the DSS do anything special at the moment, like saying what materials are there?
Or is it still just cash boost only?
In all honesty, I do wonder what kind of 'explorer' considers 'not having to explore the thing you want to see fully' a 'QoL improvement'. Wouldn't it make more sense to just look at pictures from google images and skip the boring 'flying a spaceship' part completely altogether? :S
