Of course if it IS Barnard's Loop, at the centre of the Orion Nebula in the middle is a neutron star which that long structure (running vertically in the picture) seems to be pointing at.

I headed out there yesterday and left my ship parked there overnight. Hopefully Thargoids haven't stolen my hubcaps.

It's great that it was found from the star pattern in the trailer - but to be honest, we really didn't expect it to be found this quickly!

Well done! ...

the crashed alien ship was eventually found by the star background, a little hint in future given the geniuses in the community is to leave the star background out of the videos or insert a fake background so it isnt found so quickly, or consider more procedural content to spread the fun around. That said im interested to see what comes up next.

Thanks rizal72 for update.

I hoped alien archaeology will be on Merope 5c, so then we would know why UAs/UPs points to it, but that would be too easy... :p
So one important conclusion - UAs/UPs does not point to Merope 5C because there are alien structures.* Or maybe it will be more accurate to write that alien structures are not what makes Merope 5C so special, that UAs/UPs point to it.
And probably there is more than one alien structure so this would make no sense anyway.

* and by the way: are UAs/UPs still pointing to Merope 5C in 2.2? :p

To be honest, I'm a bit bitter about this myself - I triangulated it to the Synuefe sector at the start of the hunt but then dropped the search there. I mean giving a location via trailer is very meta-gaming considering the complexity of the alien wreck hunt and clues and everything it just seemed.. well, "lame" for the lack of better word to hand it out through a youtube video.

Congratulations on locating them nonetheless!

I hope it doesn't throw stone in your plans...but you must admit, Canonn are just amazing bunch of space geeks :D

Truly amazing indeed.

Congratulations all around. You guys give a hardened pirate like myself lots of joy.

I personally have little inclination to go out searching for this type of stuff myself, but damn you guys are getting better and better.

Very impressive stuff!

For all you know it was there intention for it to be found like this :p it's still a needle in a haystack!

A lot of people seem to assume that it was FD's intention to "give out" the location of this archaeological site (notice I'm NOT saying "alien") via the trailer video. Personally I'm not so sure. I do think FD sometimes underestimate what players will do. I think it's entirely possible that it didn't occur to them while making the trailer that someone would triangulate the location from the stars that were visible in the background. It is, after all, an extraordinary achievement given the size of the galaxy.

David, would you care to comment? Was it a deliberate "hand out" or an accident?

A huge thank you for the constant development, I logged in for the first time in months this morning to go look.

Please think about in game tools to find these things, pretty please with wings on :)

To the individual blowing up cmdrs around the site you're just tedious.

The in-game description of the Ancient Totem says it is a statue depicting some kind of alien figure...

Can we have a closeup please? I'm not in game atm...
Thanks!

I imagine at FD offices, Michael Brookes has just thrown a bunch of Galnet articles out the window, alongside obscure teasers, CG plans, and inverted morse code translated to hexadecimal via Sanskrit. Perhaps they can quickly patch in a bigger ruin for us to find, and that this was just an outpost. :D

Afaik FD has already accepted that nothing will go according to plan - if there is any - and they are creative as well, so we will get some interesting lore play around these ruins. After all, there's considerable amount of work involved what a heck are they. How they came to be. Aliens? What kind of aliens? Certainly different kind if we compare to crashed Alien ship design! So many questions....

It is possible they planned hunt of these ruins. Those plans are now obsolete. Doesn't mean continuation won't be more complex.

Not sure I'd call it being handed out .

My mind still boggles at Xdeath managing to track down a single system based purely on what's in the video. Ok, there were other "clues" as well as the skybox, like the local planetary bodies, but on my understanding this would still have involved travelling to each potential system (unless Xdeath already had visited them all, but if so, well even more kudos). As they're non-populated, none of the system info re planets etc... would visible without a personal visit.

Slightly different to Jacques, which I understand was found by filtering the galaxy map for systems with a population, or something similar. Even that "trick" still amazes me given how many systems there are out there and how few you can actually see in the galmap at any one time.
