Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

I would possibly reword this, as the "relics" are the specific blue glowing items that spawn on top of the pillars, or "beacons" as you call them. Calling the commodities found on the darkened rock formations "artifacts" would be clearer and more accurate. The "Servers" do correspond to the number and locations of the active, scanable obelisks which I observed.

I wonder if they are actually serving data or if the scan data we get from them is simply that, scan data of the energies given off by the obelisks themselves. I'd suspect the latter. The former would imply that these things are indeed some sort of data storage devices or otherwise connected to a nearby database.

grats to finding the ruins

im going to go and bang my head against a wall now cause i logged out literally 2km from it

I imagine at FD offices, Michael Brookes has just thrown a bunch of Galnet articles out the window, alongside obscure teasers, CG plans, and inverted morse code translated to hexadecimal via Sanskrit. Perhaps they can quickly patch in a bigger ruin for us to find, and that this was just an outpost. :D

as with jaques they did show they can adapt, adjust and create content fairly quickly. Between major expansions, id like to see smaller ruins with a single or two bits of ruin subelements here and there in a procedural way. At least open up the finding new things on a smaller scale but as part of the content part of the game rather than one big bank location

Congratulations and well done to Xdeath for finding the ruins!
.
From the close-ups of the individual standing stones, it seems like there might be some writing on them, with the triangular glyphs looking like they might be doing some counting in base 3 perhaps?
.
I'm surprised at how huge the complex is, as seen from the screenshot from low orbit. As others have said, it seems potentially like a marker or map (though perhaps we have been trained to think that after the UP transmission). That would be quite the undertaking for the crew of a Generation ship with limited resources, or any struggling outpost of humanity. I do wonder if it is of non-human origin but is it saying where the makers came from, or where they were going, or is it warning of danger in a certain area? Furthermore, why encode information into a site like this at all? It's all very Easter Island...
.
Observations: there is no obvious sign of orbital bombardment or weapons' fire from the overview screenshots. It appears to have been abandoned without a fight. There are no ruins of surface refineries, industry, other infrastructure for a base, nor obvious buildings for the inhabitants. The existence of a perimeter wall on an uninhabited planet might suggest a concern related to surface attack (the site has a fortress-like appearance) but I'm not sure; it could also be to encourage an approach from a certain angle, to encounter certain structures first.
.
What are the wavescanner sounds and appearances for the ancient relics and other artifacts at the site? I'm wondering if there might be some information that can be obtained from them somehow... (in fact, I'm expecting it!).

So far......

An 'installation' lies abandonded and undisturbed for an unknown amount of time, probably very large.

Something mechanical passes by (SRV)...... An enormous beacon/antennae activates and emerges from its hiding place.
Various artfacts are found bearing, in some cases, resemblance to images found elsewhere at the site.
Interaction with some objects activate other objects.

Is it just me who can't find the 'radio tower' thing? I'm in Mobius and I can find the scannable data things and the artefacts lying around but I can't find any of the obelisk things that rise up out the ground anywhere?

Fixed it ;)

If you drive in the area you will see a white dot or 2 on your scanner, drive over that spot and the pillar should rise like the phoenix :)

Yup - like I say, not convinced this site is "alien" at all.

FD have referred to Alien Archaeology though. Hang on, let me find it...

Greetings Commanders,

We hope you’re geared up and ready for ship-launched fighters, the Beluga liner, VIPs, passengers, alien archaeology, volcanism, and much more, because The Guardians and Elite Dangerous 1.7 updates will be blasting out of the Frontier Developments’ fighter bay on Tuesday October 25.

Of course that doesn't mean this site is alien, but if this stuff isn't alien then there's still some alien archaeology left to find ;)

They also keep saying there's no such things as aliens, so make of that what you will... :D

im going with lost humans that found some alien technology and created hybrids, and perhaps the thargoid scouts found something but for whatever reason may be taking a backseat. But apart from palin, salome and a few other tidbits we still dont ahve the full unfolding story just yet

That's my thinking also. Which means we might actually stand a chance of figuring the thing out without having to lean how count in base 3 or something...
