It's my understanding that missions drive the BGS. If people stop doing missions due to the low payouts, the BGS grinds to a halt.
The game economy is only partially influenced by player activities with commodity boards and mission payouts. I promise you, the BGS is never going to "grind to a hault" based on what players do or don't do.
But I also doubt the majority of players have stopped doing missions because of this issue.
A good portion of the community is made up of veteran players like myself who no longer need the $$, and actually run missions for other reasons such as faction ranking, Engineer materials etc. Thus, the change in the payout amounts have no significant impact on myself or others within this group.
I need to rank up my Alliance Rep today so I can hook up with the new Engineer Bill Turner. So... I will be focusing my efforts over near the Alioth system for the next several days until I get my rep with the Alliance up from Cordial to Friendly. How much $$ those missions pay isn't going to stop me from doing them. In fact, the last thing I look at these days when choosing missions is how many CR they pay. For me its usually what Engineer materials or data do they offer, followed by the issuing faction.
Today the focus will be flipped to REP being #1 followed by Engineer stuff. Since Rep is my primary focus, I will likely accept many today that offer no Engineer stuff at all, but even if that mission paid zero credits, if it added to my Alliance rep score, I will take it.
