Community Event / Creation Limericks (and Haiku!)

Some funny stuff here.

I searched for haiku because I was thinking of opening a thread myself. Haiku's are lovely things. It seems we go for the traditional 5-7-5 format. I am gonna have a few go's with this.

Haiku's are to capture a specific moment's essence. It is a Zen thing I suppose... So here we would capture a moment in the Elite universe.

Endless and unforeseen
As silence engulfs my soul
I would meet you there

The orbit of moons
The orbit of planetoids
What would I circle

Intended matter
A release into space
Life has space for loss

Nebulae shine bright
My soul within me burning
Setting all alight

Echoes of the past
Reverberations of fear
Once escapes the merchant

Yellow star behind
Escape from hunter weapons
A firefly runs

Law breaks down again
The rhythm of disorder
But balance returns

Travel to the core
Gypsy moth brings these flowers
Never seen before

I suppose limericks should be Elite-related - but what the hell, it's Friday night, and this is an anti-limerick anyway:

There was a young man from St Bees
Who was stung in the arm by a wasp
When asked 'Does it hurt?'
He said 'No, not a lot
But I'm so glad it wasn't a hornet!'

As an aside, this reminds me of a Scottish limerick that plays on the way most people have forgotten about the letter Yogh:

There wis a young lassie named Menzies,
That asked her aunt whit this thenzies.
Said her aunt wi a gasp,
"Ma dear, it's a wasp,
An you're haudin the end whaur the stenzies!"

(Those words at the end of verse 1, 2 and 5 should be proniunced Ming-iss, Thing-is and Sting-is when pronouncing z as a yogh as originally intended)

Psykokow really felt glum
When his moustache attempt proved dumb
Try as he might
There was no hair in sight
He grew more fluff up the crack of his bum!

Limericks are quite easy to write,
I'll even write one for this website.
What shall I write next?
Crap I need more text.
Alas, not so easy in hindsight.

I'll have another go at writing this rhyme,
Certainly, I'll get it right this time.
Now comes the hard part,
Oh where do I start?
My mind, oh, it's just not in its prime.

It really doesn't seem I am getting anywhere,
Except down a long road to despair,
As I come to conclude,
That my mental aptitude,
Is really neither here nor there.

Now this is going to sound real dumb,
But all these attempts are quite fun,
Yet with nothing to show,
Except an IQ so low,
I am still at the place I begun.

He calmly faced the station bay,
His military laser he began to spray,
Not knowing his plot,
They sent the police, a lot
With glee he blew all the Vipers away.

David Braben dreamed of making Elite IV,
A kickstarter brought fans to the fore.
Many said the drive sucks,
Yet they still pledged the big bucks,
Success! ...Now they drool on the floor.

Lifetime insurance draws people to spend cash,
Compelling people to upgrade in a way so rash,
A fine marketing scheme,
Yet a fleecing it seems,
Leading to high hopes that may end in a crash.

The funding of Elite is much more straight,
No ploys and no switching the bait,
Thus the alpha feels much nicer,
albeit a lot pricier,
Yet I bet it is going to be great.

Frank sat there awaiting his Janx.
A drink that he'd asked for with thanks.
But as he sat there,
his eyes bulged and stared.
The idiot brought him a Jinx.

Over the years, not much of a thought for Elite,
Those old memories, fuzzy, far gone, and obsolete.
Now with a fourth game so near,
It seems those memories so dear,
Are back, real vivid, and complete.

They delivered my Cobra this day
As a Jameson, I was invited to play
With a twitch of the 'stick
I launched pretty quick
Then it was up, up, and away!

Inquired my great aunt at tea
Young Jameson, do you fart when you pee?
I replied with some wit
Do you belch when you sh*t?
I reckon that's one-up for me!

Haiku (and a limerick)

Past the station's light
The sidewinder signs its name
Across the deep dark

For me, Elite has always been about what could be out there, in the unknown depths of space. I think the game has a very poetic feel to it - it will be great to hear from anyone else similarly inspired. :)

P.S.

There was a commander from Lave
Who sadly forgot to hit save
While docking his asp
He came in way to fast
And went to an orbital grave
