Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

Volunteers in Corvettes and other ships have been patrolling the area occasionally. Personally I forgot my honker and an applicable cargo rack, but I'm only here to do patrols against people who commit to senseless murder of the scientific community regardless of motive.

Can somebody explain to me how cmdr death found the site by looking at the star formation in the trailer?

I will just quote xdeath themself to answer.

The system was found by lining up the Andromeda Galaxy with the Pleiades Nebula as it was shown in the trailer.
I didn't just stumble across this system. I triangulated it based on the prominent features in the galaxy backdrop.

Now it just so happens that the bodies in this system, specifically the moon there, also match up exactly to what we saw in the trailer.
This is the system. There is no doubt about.

You have simply not been paying attention to thread, and EDs development in general. Their procedural tech is highly advanced(taking in actually scientific data on how planets form) and it would be highly unlikely for it to create the same planet twice.

If you look in the other posts around that thread I think you will find a more in depth discussion that may help answer your questions.

I wonder if the big hints to 3 that you talk about refer to 3 dimensions. Similar to how the alien data was deciphered in Contact. Do you think there is a way to look at the layout of the alien planetary structure in a 3 dimensional way ? I'm new to all this deciphering so probably a long way off :)

They do, if you think like a Vegan.

I obviously missed something while sleeping.... Why do we think there is a second location in Col 173 Sector KY-Q D5-47. Someone said they found it in Beta?? So is it just looking for something that was actually seen in beta or was there another hint in the trailer or elsewhere that points to the other location.
There is nothing on the thread page 1
summary (or did I miss that too?)

Jeez you guys work quickly! Haha

Need to get my Beluga's jump range up but once I do I am going to find some time to head out and see that site. Really nice work guys :)

Well unlocked and fully upgraded Bill Turner and Lori Jameson (the two new utility class Engineers).

Nothing interesting available using obelisk data.

Not that I expected there to be.

Actually one feasible route might be that when a player acheives something specific in-game, an Engineer that wants the obelisk data unlocks and the player receives a message. Hmmmm.

The patterns are the same for every type of data.

Great to have confirmation - I thought they all looked the same too.

I have all 12 videos and can upload them if people do want to download to have a look through themselves.

I'd love one of the videos (as a mp4 or webm) so I can run the program I've written over it to extract the patterns to play around with further.

Needed a break, took a short trip.
But nothing to see here unless ...um ... the view :D

Ok guys. let's think. we have to be missing something. we HAVE to be.

What do we know:

The site is VERY old. possibly older than 1000 years. and there is another site apprently 5000ly away from sol. (from the other site in the trailer) so that rules out the missing.
They love triangles. #Illuminati confirmed.
There tech is proximity based.
The Commanders Log Reads out this:
Alpha: Com Log: Ancient Biological Data
Beta: Com Log: Ancient Cultural Data
Delta: Com Log: Ancient Language Data
Epsilon: Com Log: Ancient Technological Data
Gamma: Com Log: Ancient Historical Data

We HAVE to be missing something. BUT WHAT?!

It lòoks like an archive or library. Combined with what David Braven said about this at games com, this looks like a race trying to preserve something of itself before they came to a sticky end.
Solving the puzzle will unlock something bigger.

Hi commanders:

I have some theories about the new glowing totems and i want your opinion:

I’ve found 10 shiny totems, each one on a different cluster. We turn it on all of them in an orden without scanning them and when we do another "lap" of turning them on, two totems tuned on instead of one.

My theory is this: Maybe if we turn them on at the same time can occur something or we have to turn it on in an order or we have to scan them at the same time?

Also I have tried to put all the collectable objects n the same place, i haul some Soontil Relics and dropped them here but nothing happened.

I'll wait for your replies :)

I may be wrong but I believe this current effort is based on the shots of a Xenohenge that were shown at Elite Meet. It appears that this is a different Xenohenge from the one that xdeath found using the Guardians Trailer. By looking for the starscape shown in the Elite Meet video they have identified the system they believe this second Xenohenge to be in. That system was in fact located in Beta, but there was no Xenohenge discovered in the Beta. In addition the original poster has noted that there seems to have been a change in the system since 2.2 was released in terms of some planets having their discoverer's reset. That may indicate that something significant has changed in the system, such as the Xenohenge now being added.

I agree, this just doesn't feel like a place that was actually lived in to me, although perhaps it once was in its earliest days. But if we think of it, as you say, as an archive or library then it starts to make more sense to me.

I visited the site last night on VR with a lot of fascination. I dont think its a burial ground. Its a desolate planet and no life could live on it, so it doesnt make sense to build a burial ground there. One could argue that the planet used to be a fertile place and it could have housed living organisms but from a first look, the planet surface does not seem particularly like a planet that was once home to life. Of course a geologist would know better and maybe could tell if the planet used to have water by looking at the geology.

Something to note, the obelisks and all the other structures seem to me that they are made out of metal. Go into classified camera and dive below the surface, you will see that most of the structures have parts buried in the ground. It would be absolutely accurate to assume that humanity would start bringing excavators to see what lies buried beneath (same for the barnacles). I would really like to see the sites dug up by the feds or imperials in future updates. It would only make (a lot of) sense. We should either have research and excavation built to the sites by FDev or FDev should find some kind of 'plot device' to find an excuse for the lack thereof.

I believe the site is intended to transmit information to other species. Mission accomplished. Now we just have to find out what it all means.

Just been surveying the second potential alien site in Col 173 Sector KY-Q D5-47, but there's no planet in this system that has a comfortable human or otherwise temperature zone, It's either to hot, 180+ degrees C or too cold -70 degrees C. for the landable planets.

My bad the least cold planet is -36 C

Maybe still too cold?

Sure sent you a PM.

Approaching the ruins in Open and can just see lots of sets of SRV lights glowing, from 14k away :D

Yesterday I checked the Pillars, where you get the Relics, to see if there was any difference in the carvings on the lower part of the Pillars. I confirmed that they in fact all have the same carvings, but there are variations between the different faces of an individual Pillar. I have no idea if this is significant or will be of use later, but I have taken some photos of the carvings. The photos aren't great so if these do turn out to be significant later then I think we need to come back and get better photos :).

I think that's quite likely myself, there aren't actually 30 engineers in the game yet are there. There's also the chance (as I mentioned earlier) about the CG result either enabling Palin to use them or not. The the Feds are going to win that one and take over the Maia system :(

The first thing that struck me when I saw the overhead map was how the relic-carrying pillars form almost a straight line, very similar to the belt of Orion. It might be nothing, but the thing about Orion's belt is that one end points to Sirius, and the other points towards the Pleiades; two areas of enormous interest in the game.

The trouble is - I don't know what that would mean about the 4th obelisk location. How would you translate a 2D location into a system in a 3D galaxy?
