I visited the site last night on VR with a lot of fascination. I dont think its a burial ground. Its a desolate planet and no life could live on it, so it doesnt make sense to build a burial ground there. One could argue that the planet used to be a fertile place and it could have housed living organisms but from a first look, the planet surface does not seem particularly like a planet that was once home to life. Of course a geologist would know better and maybe could tell if the planet used to have water by looking at the geology.
Something to note, the obelisks and all the other structures seem to me that they are made out of metal. Go into classified camera and dive below the surface, you will see that most of the structures have parts buried in the ground. It would be absolutely accurate to assume that humanity would start bringing excavators to see what lies buried beneath (same for the barnacles). I would really like to see the sites dug up by the feds or imperials in future updates. It would only make (a lot of) sense. We should either have research and excavation built to the sites by FDev or FDev should find some kind of 'plot device' to find an excuse for the lack thereof.
I believe the site is intended to transmit information to other species. Mission accomplished. Now we just have to find out what it all means.
