Feds forcibly occupy Maia, repeatedly bully Palin, why do people support them in the CG???

I wonder if the next CG after the victory of the Federation will be an Obsidian Orbital upgrade CG.

The Federation surely would want a fully functional station in the Pleiades sector. How will the CMDRs react to such a CG?

(I'm currently a few hundred ly away from Maia)

All RP aside, I was thinking earlier today I wish OO had a shipyard[big grin]

However stupid this might sound, I think that, due to popular movies, the words Empire and Federation just bring up the wrong connotations to the people who have not bothered to learn each power's story in Elite universe. And there seems to be a lot of them. So the natural choice for them is to support the "good" guys, hence the federation. This gives the initial edge in the CGs for the federals. Immediately after this initial edge, all is lost due to the second wave, which is the credit and rep. farmers, who will naturally support the winning side. Happens all the time.

I hate that Maia is anarchy and filled with pirates and would support any faction that was non-anarchy.

My personal favorites would be Nebula Goat Appreciation Society because I love the name, while The Pioneer's Cooperative and Cooper Research Associates would be most appropriate for controlling an exploration hub.

Pleiades Resource Enterprise sounds like a generic mining conglomerate but in the end I'd support them over the Ant Hill Mob. I'd support Merope Expeditionary Fleet or even Hagglebeard's Heroes simply because they're not Anarchist slaving pirates.

The Feds did have a Cap ship Parked over Palin's Research base, but that was a month ago well before this conflict.

Independent reports from the Maia system indicate that a Farragut-class Battlecruiser has taken up position over Maia A 3 a, not far from the personal research base of Professor Ishmael Palin. The Federal vessel is apparently redirecting pilots who stray too close to the site.

The news comes only a day after Professor Palin announced a breakthrough in his research into meta-alloys.

The purpose of the deployment is not immediately apparent, but rival political powers have been quick to condemn the act. Alliance Prime Minister Edmund Mahon described it as "an egregious act of oppression" while Emperor Arissa Lavigny-Duval said, "The Federation has an obligation to immediately curtail any restriction of Professor Palin's personal freedoms."

Attempts to contact Professor Palin have been unsuccessful.

^this makes it sound like Palin's research base is inaccessible because the Feds have a capital ship hovering right over it preventing anyone from docking. The reality is quite the opposite, which means that either the devs forgot to add a capital ship to the Palin engineering base instance, or this is pure propaganda. In either case, there were no ships at all at Palin's. Except one NPC Asp that pulled up as I was leaving.

As others have pointed out, there is numerous misinformation about federal presence including the glaring omission that the Empire put ships over both barnacles and the alien crashed ship. Given the chance to exploit potentially a galaxy altering material, the Empire would do the same.

The fact is the ONLY REASON this is being brought up at all is because the Empire is losing against a faction that has a horizons only CG. Even with their CG being open to every player rather then only ones with horizons that they are STILL LOSING.

This is 100% salt from Imperial players that can not ever win in a combat CG against the Federation. So they make up excuses, mislead other people (not even talking about role playing propoganda), post god knows how many threads on "help us win", and finally make threads on how the big bad Federation is totally 100% the ones in the wrong.

The Federation are bullies? Um, so explain to me EXACTLY what you would be saying if it was the Empire doing this instead?

Listen, the only Federal power I support is Winters. The only Empire power I support is Aisling Duval.

The reason for that is because in general, they try to help everyone. That aligns with my values. So I don't just say this because I support the federation. I don't. I have an immense dislike for Hudson. However I see A LOT of hypocrisy and outright stupidity when it comes from the empire factions when talking about stuff like this.

This topic only exists because it was paid for by a literal mountain of salt from a group of people who can't, even with the most optimal terms, beat the federation in a combat CG. How about you type less and fight more?

That is what I mean, there was a Capital ship there a month ago, then it left, then the News Says there is one there "apparently redirecting pilots who stray too close to the site", which is just what Capital ships do, enforce their No Fly Zone about them, regardless of where they are.

So the news is either a month late, or it is pure propaganda, as in the last few days I have been in and out of Palin's thrice and no Capital Ship there, and Palin was on site i.e. the engineering was available, so perhaps when they say "Attempts to contact Professor Palin have been unsuccessful" he was just busy

I'm guessing the problem is few "independent" Galnet reporters have gone 5k ly away from the bubble nor have 25 unknown fragments at their disposal.

I've upgraded several ship drives over the past few weeks and Palin's always happy to see me when I visit him.

I'm reminded of how an "independent" historian revised the past 100 years of Imperial history so it no longer gassed alien inhabited planets for colonization space and instead "transported them off-world to an undisclosed reservation" aboard "peace and friendship" fleets which visited the indigenous alien populations and freed them of the burden of living in Empire territory.

Maia was being run by gangsters and criminals for far too long and it is time for democracy to be achieved in this sector now.

Naturally the organized genocidal intergalactic slaver community will oppose this and it seems their so called 'honor' allows them to be sided and work alongside local murderers, raiders, pirates and other criminal elements figures..

Keep pounding 'em boys n girls and do what we always do the best.. take the galaxy's trash out.

Perhaps I missed it, who knows but when has the Empire ever put a blockade on science ? Sure they parked a majestic over the alien ship but I can't remember it being a blockade. And that would be the big difference.

Also if the roles were reversed, I would not participate in the Imperial CG, like I did with the Skimmer factory attack CG, it was senseless and pure provocation with no real impact on anything, so I just didn't take part in it.
And if the Empire was doing a CG to blockade the private research facility of Palin it would be the same story.

Backing a power doesn't mean blindly following it without asking yourself any question. And right now Federals should ask themselves a lot of questions because they can give bad reputation all they want. Lately they're being the biggest tyrants there is, seizing everything by force and threats and eliminating anything they deem against their ideals swiftly...

When was that ever on Galnet?
Or is that your own revisionism, as the only one I recall opened up the possibility the e3xtinition of the Xenos of Achenar happened accidently under Marlin Duval

Neither a hundred years ago, nor any mention "instead "transported them off-world to an undisclosed reservation" aboard "peace and friendship" fleets which visited the indigenous alien populations and freed them of the burden of living in Empire territory. "

If there was such an article on GalNet, I would be interested in seeing your source, after all you would very well denounce Historical reivisionism and then double down with your own.

Cause the win the CGs and if you put time into the loser: you get nothing.

The failure to payout to the losing side has lessened the fun of the combat CGs since there's strong reason to not go fight for them.

The times it has happened it has been bugs that have been corrected.

It is incorrect to continue to spread the "fact" that the losing side in a CG gets nothing

Did something change then.

Because I was heavily in the thread where FD stated that giving money to the losing side was only done because people were confused whether they would and that they should not have and that in the future they would not.

That was several months back at this point. Did FD change their position? Is there a link to this?

The losing Side has been getting payments as far back at the Slave revolts, Patreus' Debt collection and the Lugh War, and the most recent one I can personally attest was the Pleiades Sector IH-V C2-16 conflict, where I got my reward for the losing Imperial Side

If Frontier has ever said that the losing side of a competitive CG wouldn't get paid ... that is news to me. Link?

During the competitive CGs to locate Jasmina Halsey's escape pod I helped the Federation reach the final tier, got paid, and then immediately went and started helping the opposing side. I got paid for that one too.
