finally got me an orca.... and..........

its a smashing looking ship, a great thing to sit in in VR... but........

maybe its just bad luck but, I think my earnings per hr will dropped significantly.

the missions for luxury cabins do not seem to pay that much more than the business ones, and the jump range is so much lower than the T6.

my insurance is also 8 times higher on it too... I cant believe I am saying this but, I think I may go back to the T6 as my passenger ship.

how are others finding it? Is it down to me not finding the "right" system yet with a bigger supply of luxury passengers?

I know I could probably board refresh just to get all luxury missions but that is not my bag I am afraid, if its there I take it, if not I don't.

thanks

To be fair, the Type-6 is a better ship. Far more manly. For manly men.

I don't presently own one.

I'm flying a beluga for the sake of variety but every minute I am doing it all I can think is "I could be doing better in my anaconda."

I have yet to actually refit my Orca for its intended role so I can't really say what the deal is with passenger missions. I know as a smuggler she paid for herself in a week. I was running missions for one of my pirate gang buddies and only needed to do like 5 jumps per mission. The ship's so fast she might as well be a Cobra, able to out run just about everything and could speed dock like she's a Sidey.

Given the payouts for passenger missions that don't need luxury cabins and knowing what I know about the ship, I can't see it still not working in your favor to still keep the Orca and run those missions. You can always throw lower level missions into those cabins as well

I shared your thoughts about the Orca. Beautiful ship but is she worth it for the VIP missions because, without those, there are better ships in every other regard.

For me, I ended up buying a Python instead and love that ship. I'm still tempted to get an Orca, though. I suspect that the high paying missions won't come easy for new pilots but, once you have good rep in a few touristy stations, you can probably make very nice money if you are prepared to stack routes and don't mind diverting here and there at your passenger's whim.

Hey Mike, currently running a 7,000,000+ luxury mission, as was best paid on mission board. But not in an Orca. The Beluga is where it's at. No fuel scoop, but fighter bay. Excellent fun. :)

Something I remarked in beta as well. In principle the Orca/Beluga is fine, but since luxury missions are both rare without really paying much more a random cargo ship will do just fine, for far less. If you're going for VIPs, grab something with large jumprange like a DBE. If going for bulk, grab a T6/T7.

You can't take VIPs in a DBE. Only an Orca or Beluga can fit luxury cabins.

VIP is not the same as luxury cabins. VIP is a subtype of passenger missions, the other one being bulk. Both come in a number of classes, with one VIP class being luxury. I'm currently schlepping a VIP explorer in my conda through the galaxy.

The Orca is so fast 420 umnodded. It's a people smuggler for Criminal Mastermind's etc....

I just stay in my local Allied systems picking up the high paying short haul missions.

4A Shield and everything else Passenger Cabins.

Thanks for explaining, I stand corrected.

Just knowing I have Luxury cabins on board the Orca makes me feel better. And with the Black Friday paintjob it truly is a space Bentley / Ferrari.

It can protect itself or run. Type 6 just isn't in the same league. The things a deathtrap.

All,

I'm currently running a shieldless Cobra III, built for speed/stealth, outfitted with 2xBusiness and 1xFirst Class cabins.

Black Friday paint job too.

Gets you where you need to be 'swiftly and with style'....

I bought an Orca long ago, and have had it sitting under a dust cover in some remote station. Within the first few hours of starting up Guardians, I refit the cargo racks with Cabins - One Luxury, One First Class, One Business, and I'm loving it.
It's such a fine looking ship, handles quite well, and has paid for itself with Passenger missions already.
I've also heavily Engineered virtually every system on it, and while it does not boast an enormous jump range, it jumps quite well, and a 3A Fuel Scoop pretty much ensures I'll get to where I'm going with it.

At some point I'll pick up a Beluga as well, because it's just as nice looking and comes with even more space for even more snotty passengers, but I suspect it will take a while longer for it to pay for itself.

I have a feeling, and will try this out when I have the funds

That the Orca is best used, if as a Luxury liner, fitted with a Single Luxury Cabin for those Most self[/] important of VIPs and dedicate it to just meeting their needs as a Chartered Yacht .

Focus on maximising the Happiness and bonuses from a Single Luxuary VIP charter.

Somewhere in the bubble, "specialisations anonymous" is hosted, featuring a meeting of ships such as the DBE that are specialised towards a task but yet again are outdone by multiroles and trade ships.

you haven't lived until you've pirated in an orca.

it's like al capone rolling up on a squeegee kid in his caddy and robbing his @$$.

...i'm touching myself tonight

I was surprised to find out that the Orca is actually faster than a Cobra according to the wiki. But I see that it requires a large landing pad. I absolutely love flying the Cobra, more so than the Imperial Courier which is collecting dust. Because the Cobra is so fast and agile it's really fast for taking off, landing and flying through the mailbox. It's the ship for grinding local missions to increase your rep with a faction to unlock engineers. But after reading your post I'm considering buying an Orca. This might be ideal for the passenger missions which pay a lot when you are allied with a faction and only want you to transport passengers to other local systems.

I'll soon be adding grade 5 dirty drives to all my ships.
