No love @ E3?

This is what I sometimes don't like in this community - too many people seeing glass half empty.

True, ED didn't get super coverage. However we get solid coverage. I mean both Gamespot and Escapist giving spotlight with actually correct articles, interviews, and good demos? It's best coverage ED got for months in US. They keep piling on and working with media interested in them and it seems start to pay off. At least that's my humble opinion.

And yeah, only FD, David and their PR agency knows if they have succeeded.

I think you should look at this - it's a struggle, but it is happening. It seems FD knows what they have to talk to, which media they have to reach out to...

Also for those wondering No Man Sky success - it's a console game now (PlayStation 4). Might even not come out to PC.

No surprise, really, to my inner cynic.

E3 is bankrolled by console manufacturers and publishing houses. It's hardly surprising that PC-only games like ED and SC, with their kickstarter crowdfunding cutting out the publishers, aren't getting a high level of exposure.

We loves you anyway have a hug [---- :D ----]

was just wanting to see if the backers numbers have gone up. very slow the system this morning and as of now not showing numbers & values...

hmmm :S

I liked what I saw from E.D and the game has a huge potential. I could see they have changed the cockpit interface a bit, it looked more polished and the new space station looks cool. And I guess they have some cards in the sleve for us in future Beta/Gamma releases. More ships and content. Well, thats obvious :p

When chatting and partying of commanders becomes availeble the milky way will be full of new stuff happening. Teamwork, groups, missions and stuff. No mans sky looked to cartoonish.

Here's a secret thought then .. NMS looks cartoonish but has interesting design (ideas) in its worlds .. SC has funky ship design ideas but (my opinion) seems blustery in terms of any eventual gameplay? Ummm .. anyway, for the sake of argument give E: D as the dark horse, not flashy but keeping it's financial and technical feet on the ground .. Scenario: NMS and SC both pail in comparison! FD steps in a buys the design rights to the lot, able to import designs (at discretion)
.. and the fat cat evil businessman, lights up, another cigar! :p

Half empty? Not so my friend, this cup runith over. I'm excited and happy at the direction Frontier is taking this game and wish to share the joy with everyone. Especially what I feel is a throw back to the days when games were fresh non-cookie cutter ideas with solid gameplay holding priority over graphics.

Perhaps I'm a bit over enthused, sorry if I offended you but, i wish games with fancy trailers AND good solid gameplay were given the attention they deserve, especially this one.

I could have worded this thread different and mentioned ED great job and a few media sites doing ok.

Back under my rock, last time didn't last that long.

A great presentation, of course! But look at the comments : Nearly ZERO Feedback by the site visitors. This what i mean : The mayority of the gamers gave a Sh**t on ED. I realy hope that Frontier can earn enough money with us old-fartish Space nerds ;)

I may buy two more PB slots for my son's. Was going to wait until the release or beta proper but, after spending a few days with the PB and reading a lot more about ED I think I'll go ahead and drop another $300.

I'm old(ish?) at 44 and have a lot more disposable income than most teenagers :D

Hate to say it, and you may label me as cynical, but maybe the lack of attention around E: D can be blamed on the fact that ultimately she simply is not about making money, thus not creating real enthusiasm by the gaming media establishment (who's main interest is to grab opportunities of making money as well).

The history of gaming industry has gone from talented enthusiast doing brilliant and original games on the Commodore 64, whose sole motivation was to create a great experience, to then slowly being swallowed up by larger companies with money making as their main ambition, and then today were that has gone into the extreme were 99% of all gaming experiences are graphically beautiful but regurgitated, uninspired and mindless repetitions.

It is my hope, and so far it has been indirectly confirmed by David Braben himself during mutiple interviews, that Elite: Dangerous is a game that is created for the sake of creating a brilliant game and for the gaming experience; not for the sake of dollars. That is why I am a Premium Beta backer despite my wallet being quite thin. Being a veteran computer user and gamer since 1986, Elite: Dangerous is my beacon of light and hope in this dark world of gaming these days, and I hope my faith is not misplaced!

How to convert the youngsters of today and make them see the gaming light? I don't know, but there is always hope!

Ya, a little love but, I check at least a dozen PC gaming sites everyday and for the most part, ED got very little attention IMO.

What's wrong with the media sites? Maybe it just hasn't posted yet? I mean I bet I read a dozen cookie cutter articles (blurbs really) that ALL showed the new trailer and ALL got the info wrong. Alpa, really? You guys are reporters?

Ya the PB is basically the alpha renamed but, it's also much more accessible than the alpha to a lot more people. Myself included. E3 stands for "Event for Three" being Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo, with the step brother Ubisoft for good measure.

The E3 coverage of ED was abysmal the media people should be ashamed of themselves but, hey Lara croft has a new hair style so I'm good.

We need a Quakecon style or Eve style event for ED and Mario can stay home.

I might be getting paranoid but I think that majority of "players" nowadays are looking for graphically nice but shallow casual "arcadish" gameplay types of games, in general.

To me, E: D is a piece of art, not just a game. It is an ambitious project with emphasis of building something special under the hood, not just good looking exterior.
It reminds me of hand built engines that have signature of engineer who built them engraved on them.

As for the media coverage, honestly, for us it's better it doesn't attract players such as those at SC camp, but for them...it's probably missed money.

No man's sky is as arcade as a game can get, with simple PS4 level graphics, nothing spectacular about it except the "new car smell effect" of going from ground to orbit, the only reason people are even looking at it. Seen the "combat"? Nothing worth even looking at.

Star Citizen, meh, very pretty but I see the development moving along the line of Duke Nukem forever.

Elite Dangerous coverage, good, bad, we're the ones with the ships.

On a side note. I saw a post on the Star citizen forum, an SC backer went into an electronics store and began chatting about getting some new graphics card for a space game, the CS rep that was helping this person inquired, "So, you're a Citizen", at which point the SC backer giggled with glee (their words). Move Time slightly to be that person talking to this Customer service rep and getting that same question......My answer would be as I stared coldly into their eyes...."A Citizen? No. I'm Dangerous". :D

ED won a couple of awards at E3 and gamespot and yogicast both did some pieces on ED. Ultimately it's difficult to gauge the effect on the general public but I think it's been very positively received.

As for No Mans Sky, I am struggling to see what all the excitement is about, it looks very arcadey and very bright and colourful but for me looks a bit like Halo in space. Time will tell and I will keep my eye on it but at the moment it looks like a lot of fluff. Nice to see an indie developer doing well though.

Personally I'm excited about it for a variety of reasons. And I think the P G ecosystems are the main reason it's getting so much attention.... I don't think most mainstream gamers really appreciate how hard seamless ground to orbit is... Or really care!

Graphic style v v different to ED - but still looks just as lovely to my eyes.

Agree that combat doesn't look like it's strong suite right now.

Although they share some traits I suspect they'll end up bring very different experiences... Which is a good thing as I'm VERY much looking forward to playing both!
