Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

I do not think we have solved the alien ruins. I have looked on the map and I have found active obelisks in different places than on the map. I have scanned one set ( which makes them inactive ), only to get another in similar locations activate. It could be that it needs a commander to hang around long enough to keep scanning. Who knows.

We mau have not solved the ruins. but i dont think there is anything we can do with them at the moment. Kinda sucks that we have to wait for FD. Picking up ancient stuff. such wow.

Mysteries ?
COL 173 .......... (sry, will search), the hypothetic system for the second ancient base...
Some search 3A, some other 15A, and surely others places too, but...

Im still convinced that 9A should have a better look, i plan to go later, why ?

If u search for human in the gal, u search a planet with condition close to ur own, and so, 9A is the only one in this system to have only 27° less than the one on synuefe, and the same 0.13G.

So, i know nothing, but thats what i believe (until i loose a few hours searching the surface !)

My apologies. I had no intention of misleading or exciting people

Again, I am deeply sorry if this caused a sense of urgency or chaos.

Was in the area - appears a standard intact outcrop for me

Nice location though

My apologies. I had no intention of misleading or exciting people, and in fact that is why I posted it to Reddit due to the much lower traffic compared to these forums. As stated through the videos and Reddit post, I was fairly certain what I was witnessing was a bug/glitch though my lack of surface mining meant I was completely unaware as to how things would look when cycling modes. After thinking over that POI for a week and returning to it, now spitting out rocks, I gave in and posted the half-joke/half-"help what is going on" that was linked here.

To summarize:
  • Some commanders saw an outcrop, some saw nothing spawned at all, and some in Open (but not in my Wing) were able to see the split rock formation of a broken outcrop.
  • I have had a POI mini-circle for this position since October 30th, and while Metallic Meteorites are supposedly capable of having them, this was an Outcrop (as best I can assume at this point).
  • I still have the POI mini-circle and despite being in the same instance as other people, they can not see it.
  • All videos of my hunts related to this have been posted on that Reddit thread, as well as an earnest effort to make sure people in the comments understood that I was fairly certain this event may be a bug (despite the shooting rocks).
  • My HUD was disabled in the first video because that is how I typically fly in Elite. I toggled it on for people to view the coordinates and information, in the beginning, and then toggled it back off so that the view of what was occurring would be completely unobstructed.

Again, I am deeply sorry if this caused a sense of urgency or chaos. There are still a lot of unanswered questions regarding the POI circle itself and what bug is responsible for whichever part of this mess, but clearly the tone of humor and mystery in my post was entirely off the mark. Normally, I keep even fully-proven ideas and concepts to myself.. but man... shooting rocks was something I was completely unprepared for.

Do not apologize!
You did the right thing to report it!
You cannot imagine how many thing were discovered thanks the one-shot reports like your!

Not sure if these have been discovered previously but whilst out in the California Nebula i landed at Mic Turner base on planet 4 of california sector ba-a e6 system.

The base was known, but the seed pods in your image I don't think I've seen mentioned before...

What happens when you collect them? Are they treated as cargo or materials?

Hi guys.

Been following the topic for a while and finally got myself to visit the ruins to see the stuff you've been so diligently studying and describing :)

Probably nothing important, but I did notice one thing: if you align with one of the buttresses on the platform (the one at the beginning of the ramp) you'll see two things:

1. The buttress has a small marking/symbol, like an arrow.
2. It seems to be pointing towards a star (circled in green) 4 other stars (yellow circles) look to me like they're following the pattern of the beacons (or, beacons follow their patter on the ground.)

Again, might be nothing, just food for thought :)

I saw the base when i checked the surface map then obviously noticed the seed pod etc once i got closer. I did a quick search on google and couldnt find anything about them hence why i posted here

I'm going to head out there Geotwin. If you want some company, let me know.

just about to go to bed unfortunately. I have logged off next to the site and wont get back on till 4pm tomorrow. If you are in the area tomorrow ill wing up if you are close by

Reading through the comments and letting the past days go through my mind I need to get something off.

We are fast.
We are easily bored.
We want new stuff to do.

I had to imagine, there are maybe 3-4 devs at Frontier that build our puzzles and the sites we discovered.
We decrypted the signals in almost no time and explored the crash sites evenly fast.
What took 1-2 ppl maybe days to design and implement in the game (crash sites) or even weeks (ruins), serves our entertainment only minutes or hours.

I know the staff is keeping an eye on this thread and fellow researchers forgive me to derail it for a second but:

I want to thank the design/sound team big time for what they did with the beacons, crash sites and even more for the ruins!

Although the crash sites are fun to see, the ruins keep me interested even more.
I catch myself going back to them nearly every day.
In solo mostly just to suck in the awesome athmosphere, the sounds, the looks, the magic.
Being there at night is creepy, being there at day let's me feel like I'm in Egypt, discovering a legit ancient place of a spacefaring race.
I turn up the volume when I'm there and nearly fall off my chair every frickin time, when my SRV runs out of fuel.

You guys just rock! [up]

*now back to science and rants about we need more stuff to discover* ;)

Agreed! It isn't his fault others overhyped it and ignored him when he said "I want to make sure it isnt a bug".

Material drops from Geo sites and fungal sites.
Depends on which planet materials are in detailed scan. They drop materials according to rarity.
If more than one material on planet of a rarity type, it drops random one of that type. If no materials on planet of that rarity , drops a lower rank material. ( usually only see that if no very rares on a planet then drops a rare )

Right on! We get too many people complaining sometimes and not enough of basking in the awesome content they've come up with. Some of the most fun and memorable parts of ED for me have been what these guys have put together.

If the Canonn dissolves into a political group, I will go off and join/found another group dedicated to Alien Mysteries.

Speaking as a member of the Canonn Council... the Canonn is strictly apolitical and neutral and will remain so. Canonn members are free to do as they please (short of game file hacking or griefing each other) and can therefore support, oppose, or ignore this CG as their conscience requires.

P.S.: Not every participant of this thread is member of Canonn, and as long as everyone stays on-topic (and since there is no agreement whether the discussion of the CG is on- or off-topic), there is no need (nor a way) to limit this thread to Canonn, right?

Everyone interested in the mysteries is welcome here. The Canonn was formed from members of these threads, but it's never been intended to be Canonn exclusive.
