I think this perfectly illustrates why Bernie would have had a harder time getting elected than the BernBros suggest. America is a conservative country (by international comparison). I strongly believe that most Americans would recoil when they see what he stands for.

I'm a fan of Senator Sanders and have been for long time now...and even I recoil when hear some of his more radical positions. All the more reason why he is best serving in the Senate, pushing the needle left. Whereas, as president he would be hamstrung and, in my opinion, a less than sufficient executive and diplomat.

A reporter got a picture of this guy yesterday at Trump's rally here in Minnesota. Guess this guy doesn't believe in the 1st Amendment, either.

I also heard that Trump had his Twitter privileges revoked by mom and dad, er I mean his aides.

Honestly, how can people look at Trump and see a guy with a temperament fit to be president? He's so thin skinned. Can you imagine if he had to undergo the grilling and media exposure that Clinton has been under for the past 25 years? Or if he had to work to negotiate a delicate position with China? He can't just get on twitter and call them fat cows...

I think the 'anger' is always there and has been exploited and nurtured.

No one is really happy with their lot, or what they have. The rich look at the richer and want more, just as the poor do the same. Some people have barely anything and yet they are content, because they have their health, their family and good friends. Their 'wealth' is based on the 3 square meals a day and that they can cover their bills and so they don't strive for the impossible dreams and concentrate on looking after their own and just being happy. However: In this world of extended credit and the latest 'must have' TV packages, these people are rare and so, these days, not many people are happy with their lot.

The spin doctors and politicians feed this discontent and turn it into resentment.

Republicans/conservatives and those to the right, will rack up the fear, the fear of lost security, of lost freedoms, the fear of the outsider and other imagined threats. They also suggest that they will cut taxes and allow us to keep more of our hard earned cash. They will also suggest the other side will increase taxes, to pay for the 'benefits' for those to lazy to work.

Democrats/Labour and those to the left, will also rack up the fear. The fear of big business exploiting the workers, the fear of lower wages, the fear more expensive health care, or even no health care and the fear of losing basic human rights.

Both parties end up putting up taxes, to one section of society or another.

In the US there is also the 'gun control' issue. Many citizens don't want to have their rights taken away and many others want to see a change to the laws. (An interesting piece of republican hypocrisy: Try and get into a Chump rally carrying a gun?)

The sad thing is, both sides have nothing positive to offer the people and so they attempt the sell, the fear of the making other choice. So then it escalates, they see what gets the attention and then they feed it, until the people get into to a feeding frenzy. A frenzy of hate and suspicion and when it is all over, the scars are still there, the enemies made. With the winners gloating and the losers resentful and festering, waiting for the next time, to take their revenge.

I'm starting to worry there is going to be some nasty fights and possibly bloodshed at some polling places tomorrow.

The rhetoric of a rigged system is at a dangerous level to the point where some believe the opposition are actual villains deserving of vigilante justice.

Please folks, if anyone approaches you outside of the poll, do not make eye contact, do not acknowledge and keep moving swiftly as possible. If you are stuck in line, and are being harassed, call the police and continue to ignore. DO NOT ENGAGE! If it continues after you have called the police take a video, do it live on Facebook, if you can. People who are actively working to suppress voting must be shamed publicly.

If you can, take some time off of work and go earlyish. Not right when the polls open as it will be slammed by early birds and elderly, but go just after morning commutes. I'm taking a half day at work and will wait as long as is needed. On waiting, make sure that if you are getting there close to poll closing time, make sure the election judges see you in line prior to poll close. I believe, in most states, that you need only be in line by the time polling closes and still cast your vote no matter how long the wait is....wait it out, it is YOUR civic duty, even if you are not voting for the two big heads make your small part in voting down ballot and electing the people that most affect your life.

Anyway...Stay safe, don't be baited, cast your vote then head to the bar and watch the circus show play out on television. Whatever happens, Wednesday will come and 2017 will be another year. America will still be the wealthiest kid on the block with the biggest and sharpest sticks. Most things will continue as before, just keep doing whatever you were doing before the clowns distracted us for their silly show.

OMG, the most fabricated issue ever. Obama was going to take all the guns....never sponsored legislation even resembling that
HRC has said multiple times she doesn't want tot take guns
Most democrats say they don't want to take guns
But most everyone can agree that closing loopholes that sell guns to people I wouldn't sell a brittle stick to are sensible and needed.

The whole, they takin our guns mantra is just the loud chant of people who have no idea what anyone is doing. They were fed a fear and have run with it.

You made some great points and have good ideas.

But going to a public place (tomorrow night) that serves alcohol is a REALLY bad idea.

Unless you can ascertain that everyone in the bar voted the same as you. ;)

Heh, I know my neighbors pretty well. Some voted one way, others voted another way and it is a totally mixed back down ballot. We'll all get wobbly as we do every week but we'll get along as we make fun of Cubs fans who are now having an identity crisis and we'll eat pizza covered in provel. We'll have to tell Bob to try to leave his pistol at home, this time, but I know he is only paranoid about protecting us...so, I can sort of let it slide and it isn't like I could do much about that anyway.

But, what is true of most people is that most folks are decent. The warnings I put above are against that minority that wants to bully the election their way. I expect most people will have a fine time voting...I worry mostly about communities to my East. My hood is about 50/50, racially. Those to my east are more 100% black and there have always been issues at their polls regarding suppression and intimidation. Anymore now, they don't even vote...which I guess was the point :(

Some of the Trump support is based on the frustration of what the current view of the government represents: Greed, detachment from the needs and concerns of the American public. Trump is viewed by people as someone who is just as fed up with this as they are. While you can disagree with his views, you can not dismiss his addressing of the anger people are feeling.

The anger is a large part of what makes communication so difficult. Angry people are not logical, and it's very hard to discuss anything with them. You are either on their side, or you get your share of the anger.

Here's a classic personality trait test, for those of you interested in such things: http://www.truity.com/test/big-five-personality-test

This is what I meant by Liberals and Conservatives not understanding each other. Only two of the five values that are all important to conservatives actually matter greatly to liberals. On the flip side, those core values are just two out of five competing ones to Conservatives.

There's a curious result in this btw, regarding purity. The higher the parasite load in a population, the more social conservative people tend to be. When vaccination and sanitation improves, "purity" becomes less important. Our fear of the outsides makes sense in surroundings where they can be filthy, and bring disease.

Rather unfortunately this means that Conservative politicians benefit from poor health care and bad sanitation in an area. Those conditions move people's instinctive political sentiments towards conservatism, even if voting liberal / social democrat parties would actually result in improvements to those conditions. Evolution didn't prepare us for politics and technology.

Yep.

Agree about communication being difficult relative to a persons anger. However, I don't think it is because the person is not logical. That is to say, their logical abilities don't just disappear and appear as their anger rises and falls. Rather, it's more of their emotions overshadowing their logic center in the old noggin.

Diffuse the anger and then address the logic. Doesn't always work, especially when a person is on the verge of going from angry to full blown rage. But I always try to do that. Note the word "try". I am not perfect in this regard, but I am working on it.
Unless I am REALLY angry to begin with. Then, screw that other idiot. ;)

Of course it could be as you say, I just prefer my view.

I don't actually disagree. Often I try to do exactly that.

Hehe! Seriously? Sweet mother of god! :D You know... I too have a kind of nature, but this is just beyond absurd! He is not fitting to lead anything tricycle included.

Clinton has her flaws, certainly. Trump on the other hand seems to be built entirely from narcissism, bluster, and delusions of competence. I wouldn't elect him as town dog-catcher.

hand on heart i would not want either of them in charge of a village fair, the thought of either of them being head of arguably the most powerful country in the world terrifies me..... but if push comes to shove, Clinton is definitely the lesser of 2 evils imo......

I would not shed a tear if both were found bang to rights on a legal issue and ended up being locked up, and neither of them be given the keys to the white house to be honest.
