Where is the option to join with them, steal their tech, give it to the humans and stomp the alien scum until there's nothing left? That's my choice of action

I've heard that's how it's done although for myself despite buying game at release I have not yet pledged to any of them. Reminds me too much of real life politicians. However good a game they talk it always about who gets the money lol

Now, about the topic... I would really try to communicate. Why? Because I still have the hope of finding some wisdom in the universe. Something better than human troglodites with too much tech on their hands.
And maybe, if chance arise, I would even turn sides and help the aliens to cleanse the galaxy from this "human" virus.
Well if they are like what they were in '84 then it'd be run away. or most likely...die
But given the ahem somewhat negative responses to harder AI I can't see them being tougher than an Elite pilot. Not that I try and take on Elite pilots as I tend to pootle around in an Asp. But I presume beating them one on one is feasible for a good pilot in an appropriate ship.

I'm not too well-informed on WH40K lore yet but I assume there's a way to do that while killing the guy.
Well, Thargoids aren't the only Aliens we're going to find, are they? So until we know which aliens we've encountered, I'd be the cautious, try to communicate type.
Well, if you read Out of the Darkness by T James; Thargoids are rather like advanced large spiders. 8 limbs, should be able to do multitasking much better than us! Best not to get captured though!
