So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

Everything CoR and the Rifters have had to do has been pretty much player created events and roleplay on the few scraps of info we're sometimes given to work with. And some people still begrudge it! Sometimes you just have to laugh!

Player-created tin foil hat role-play events are great and I'm personally grateful for them. But they are still no substitute for actual game content, and should not be accepted as such. And all I 'begrudge' is 'some people' (who aren't licensed novelists) who apparently have access to privileged information like the details of forthcoming CGs before they happen, and simply change the subject when you ask them where they're getting their information from. Especially when the information directly undermines a current player-created event in which I am personally involved, as if deliberately designed to so do. And I don't find it funny.

Wait; lemme get this straight - you want to get this whole mess wrapped up in the mess that is powerplay? reaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllly?

i think you would need to have CoR present as a minor faction in about 20 systems. But yeah the need for flying below the radar impairs that. the only other thing could be to take an outpost in a random expansion system and UA crash it, perhaps specific trade like superconductors and uranium which i think drives some of the hiddden military background simulation related stats.

But somethings going to happen after todays downtime so thats stage 1

At this point, I'm just out here exploring. I was on my way to H&S again, but detoured about 500ly -y to see the A supergiant and a black hole many had already discovered. I found a lot of terraformables and the odd ammonia world or two on the way. Ended up in EAFOTS just below and behind H&S. Tomorrow, back across the Rift.

I can assure you that noone in CoR has ever thought about undermining current expeditions. Naturally if - as a player faction - you do work to propose a CG to Frontier (yes, you can do that) you will have information others don't have. And you won't share any details on the forums until the thing is real. In this case the CG we wanted (a trading one in the bubble) was planned so that it would start around christmas. Just 2 days ago we got notice that not only the CG was different (Explo) but that it would start today.
Now you tell me how we could have done it differently than we did. This ominous "insider-info" and "favouritism" allegiations are the negativity I mean. Please just for one second consider that CoR are just players like you and me who want to help make this game more interesting for everybody, get more roleplaying and storytelling into the game.

You don't have to register before you come back to sell the data, do you?

No, as long as the CG runs you can sign up and start selling. Hopefully there will be no "problems" with the tiers. If they are low the CG can end before everybody is back. We'll see this afternoon.

Yeah. I hope this isn't an issue. You don't expect a lot of data to be delivered until the last day, for a CG this far out.

Shame you deleted it, it was the most pertinent post on here I've seen for weeks.

You hit the nail on the head. The rift story has had zero content, is often shelved for months on end, stops and starts, and infuriates people at times.... All the while FD have been falling over themselves throwing content at other mysteries for over a year. Everything CoR and the Rifters have had to do has been pretty much player created events and roleplay on the few scraps of info we're sometimes given to work with. And some people still begrudge it! None truer a word said. Still, I'm excited for the CG this weekend. And maybe one day we'll actually find out what's hidden in the rift. That the Feds and the Imps don't want us to know about.

I've never been excited for any CG. About the saddest way to introduce content that I can think of.

As already wrote before, FD puts contents on ED when they want, not sure that up to now there really was something to be found on the rift. It could also be possible that they can move the Rift away from currently supposed region.

Lets be clear on something. CoR have not and do not get privileged information. We've never asked for it and would never expect it. When FD dropped the whole Rift/Salome thing last year, CoR became pretty much full on roleplay as thats all that was left. Since then the whole thing is back on FDs agenda and CoR have been used as a vehicle to bring parts of the story alive, in-game, via interaction with Salome (who friends anyone by the way), and the snippets of GalNet articles that everyone has access to. CoR *may* get a hint that there's a chance to roleplay an upcoming event that ties in with the story, but it does not get any meat and bones about where things are heading before anyone else does. Other groups who put the dedication and work in have also been included in the roleplay aspect of bringing interaction and events to the game (I think the Raan Corsen story arc is linked, but he is not part of any CoR roleplay initiative).

People have been told that this is a player driven narrative, and thats what CoR and others try to do via the the events they hold and content they create. So far we haven't seen any evidence of that, despite the obscene amount of hours the Rifters and ourselves have dedicated to the Rift mystery, and more recently in trying to effect Salome's plight.. with some events going back over 6 months (and some CoR-only ventures dating back over a year). But we keep trying, because what's the alternative for groups and individuals who want to participate and be active in the story?

You'll get no argument from me regrading FDs lack of actual in game content to work with and how roleplay is no substitute for actual hands on substance, nor no argument on the snails pace things are rolled out (try keeping a group interested and active when there are weeks and months of nothing new to go on!). So sometimes roleplay is the only substitute that fills the gaps (I'm talking from a player group perspective here).

Drew is probably as frustrated as anyone since FD call the shots at the end of the day, but at least things are beginning to move. Lets hope today is the start of actual activities that have visible consequences we can all recognize further down the line... then maybe the roleplay aspects can better work in tandem with the story, and not be a substitute for it.

This "announcement" today - Please can someone confirm that it will be via Glanet or the front page of the ED Launcher etc.

I do not use Twitter nor Reddit and do not believe that to participate in gameplay it ought be necessary to do so.

It's bad enough having to give a bunch of information to Google Inc just to view some crucial parts of the game manual.
