Erimus posted this one in the Rift thread. I think it's equally relevant here.

I wonder what this is?

Edit: It's decoded.

Think RSM said planet day is 19 Earth days, so even if it was pointing at the pole there should have been 360x1/19 degrees of view rotation- enough to detect visually if not tracking. More likely it is not programmed to rotate with the planet rotation, but the view could well still be significant

Might be worth scouting around for a cave entrance. I am still intrigued by this https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=14DBJsxCy7Y, it seems to me a test of a new landscape feature that FD will bring in at some stage (if they haven't already, thinks Merope 5C!)

I've seen that vid before and it was intriguing, but I really believe it's just an graphical glitch or an artifact that doesn't belong there. Caves would be cool though, think of the possibilities.

Ok sounds like you have done a very similar experiment with the debug camera inside the telescope as I had. We were wondering if the star formations were changing or not as a return visit the next day had the same stars in the same positions for us, or there was so little movement in that time we couldn't easily detect it.

If you could share your screen shot with spoiler tags here that would be useful to compare (my images are earlier in this thread) and your shared identification of the stars at the centre of of the telescope would be very much appreciated as we haven't done that yet.

We had been trying to get a 4k resolution image, hadn't realised at the time that an even higher resolution picture is available to everyone using the default Alt-F10 command to take the screenshot at max resolution (often far higher than 4k, my own being around 7k).

Below are the star formation images. i spent a good while adjusting to get the debug camera as flush as possible using the surrounding structure of the telescope as a guide, looking for symmetry and alignment. im pretty sure this is spot on.

I would be very interested to see how much movement can be seen when comparing with your images. (im planning to return to site again tonight to double check my self (PC platform)).

I still think the telescope does not move and that the planets rotation makes this lead an empty one. but i cant shake the notion that the messages at the camp suggested a detected signal and that this base is the only site so far to have a telescope on it.

I will collect information on the planets day/year cycle and the latitute of the site to see if we can reconcile the telescopes view with at least a very slowly changing point of view.

I will post the star system name/s that i targeted on the galaxy map when i can log on later.

Hmm.. Might need a cleaner audio file to play with.. Looks promising though..

I've been having a look at the audio too and I've found something at the end, in the part of the sample that sounds like a data burst,

http://imgur.com/a/MCos6

Looks like 1 5 4 ? ? or maybe 1 1 5 4 ? ?

Here's a new grab of the transmission, saved at the highest audio bitrate OBS would allow:

Looks pretty much the same but maybe some of you guys can find something in it.

Posted this on the Formidine Rift thread, and earlier on canonn discord. Thought I'd post this in here, see if more minds on it reaps anything.

The way the glyphs swell and disappear at the end, I keep wondering if that's significant.. hiding another message?

can someone point my to the decoded binary in the video? I cannot find it in the front page, do decoding (again?) have any sense?

i scouted around, but didn't find anything else.

interestingly, there is a target (on the planet selection panel) for it, but it's 314 meters *underneath* the beacon. Which is bizarre. Unless there is a cave nearby there is no way to dig it out though. I'll skim the other planets in this system see if there is another beacon, if not then this is where the trail ends.

Undergrounds clues that we cant access, has to be a placement bug or something

I did manage to clip under the surface and have a look around. The uplink is indeed much taller than it appears on the surface, but there's nothing else down there. The first image is looking up at the Comms Uplink from below, you can see the long struts descending into the substrate. The second is looking straight down into the planet directly under the Comms Link (straight at the area indicated as a target), and you can see there is nothing suggestive of caves and no mis-placed POI under the ground.

It crosses my mind that maybe this isn't a glitch. Maybe this is a suggestion that the bulk of the wreck is supposed to be many meters under the ground (i.e. the coordinates the voice mentions on the transmission, the SRV is picking it up automatically, and it's down there - we're not supposed to be clipping into the surface to see there's no actual ship model there). It would coincide with the transmissions at other listening posts that talk of being "buried alive".

Many CMDRs have complained that this thread CANNOT monopolize all the in-game mysteries, they say it is better to subdivide topics in different threads.
While I somehow agree with this thoughts for its many good reasons, I do not completely agree with it, as I know very well that people are lazy, and prefer to looks for news in a single place.

That's why I'll add a recap to the front page, with the links to the related threads and informations, but the discussions will continue on the "official" pertinent threads.

I still think that this thread could be a good place to keep everything up to date, where people cha easily find their way through all the many in-game mysteries.

Thank goodness you're not as lazy as the rest of us.

Good evening CMDRs! I did a white noise filter on the sos-call. Here is the result. As you can hear (and see) in the end of the message there is clearly something in the 1kHz to 2kHz band which is not caused by de-noising. Spectogram and wave-file attached.

I will try to make the part after "survived a crash [on ....]" more clear. Sounds like it is some kind of overlapping here. Next I will try to isolate different bands and see if there is a code hidden for the message is stating that the coordinates are included into it.
