An investigation into Frontier's actions on Combat Logging

All that OP has proven is that FD support does not care about watching videos sent by players. :) That's actually helpful info!

I strongly doubt they actually do anything regarding CL apart from "collecting data". They "collected data" on hackers/cheaters/script kiddies (using identifiable hacks) for a long time before they actually started banning them. Don't really think their policy on this would be harsher. On the contrary.

OP actually needed to test this on a specific account for a long time and with many instances of actual combat logging. One week and few combat logs are not a viable sample.

If FD want to ban a player, they need to be able to prove without a shadow of a doubt that user is a "certified" combat logger. Banning people on account of a few "dropped connections" is not something FD is likely to do... it's like opening a can of worms.

I have to admit I understand why. I'm not condoning CL since it's basically cheating (that people use both in PvP in PvE), but I understand how troublesome this issue is to handle. In addition, IMO automating the response is a more likely scenario that manually banning players for CL.

They have a two years of samples. How much more time they need to start?

As SDC proven FD is doing nothing.

P.S
Do You remember?

I don't know. Two more years? :p

We all know FD does not play it's own game, especially not PvP and related activities in open. I have nothing against pushing this issue to get it solved and therefore don't think OP is wrong in his (their) effort, but their hypothesis was neither confirmed or rejected. They are simply incorrect conclusions based on superficial testing method, despite nice wording of the article and perceived good intentions.

It was a weak policy. The exploiters became very blasé about doing what they did. A bit more discretion and I doubt anything would have been done by FD.

I await FDs response on the issue raised in this thread.

You need to be more proggressive. You even never saw me in tigh costume but You judging (i think you my like it, but i would inform i have someone). Have you ever saw a superhero and me in one time? No...

The common used sentence in a lack of arguments when someone else is provin something what you do not like.
Their method for that experiment was pretty fine and credible in fact.

Everyone expected FD is doing nothing with that because common known combat loggers are flying in open. These folks are easy to monitor. SDC tests are just confirmed that.
It's easy to make combat logger list, add them to friends by your friends who they do not know, and observe where they are playing, fly to place where they are, etc.

I've seen a lot of opionions in this threat but what I got behind the scene is that communication of what FD does with its tickets is bad and Combat logging is seen as not followed up
by Frontier support in a way as they communicated before.

To build trust between the playerbase and Frontier there is to be an open communication. FD will not name/shame any player in public but it is a good advise after two years now to
show a statistical view on that. like the number of tickets received due to Combat Logging numbers of approved Combat Loggings and numbers of Actions taken on the foul.
If we can watch those numbers maybe over a rolling six months graphical view a lot questions will not be raised and more confidence on Frontier can be gained that they are working
on those issues and take even PVP players complaints seriously.

Finally they have the numberts or easily can find out. I am sure and its nothing of shaming and blaming but maybe needs the confession that FD is to do more with its tickets than
keep them as top-secret things and they need to improve this service over time.

Miklos

Agreed. They got cocky. I'm sure FD has enough telemetry to actually make an example with a few CMDRs, they may be more inclined to do so, but it will be just for show if it actually happens. Nothing will acutely change.

You are attempting to impute something without proper evidence. It's understandable bias and I understand your pain, but you are factually wrong. All that SDC tests confirmed is that FD did not take videos into account.
Have they had a statement from FD that "the offenders are banned", then nobody could argue with the conclusion "FD are lying". Even the canned FD response is pretty clear regarding this.

SDC may be right about it, but what OP posted is not a proof of anything except what I mentioned. Their method is attempting to mimic scientific approach, but if this had been a real paper, it would not pass peer review due to wrong assumptions, methodology used, sample size and lack of control.

They didn't prove that.

For all we know they sit around during lunchtime with Yorkshire Tea and biscuits watching the vids having a good old laugh about it. Maybe they laugh at the salty reactions of the PvPers involved. Or maybe they curse the combat loggers and call them names, but are powerless to do anything about it for whatever reasons may exist.

Also, their testing was a bit flawed. They made a sting operation in order to try and catch FD out. What might very well have happened is FD took one look at the reports, saw the accounts those were linked with, perhaps cross-checked IP addresses, realized who was behind the combat logs, and laughed and dismissed the reports.

What might have been funnier is if they perma shadowbanned those accounts and all other accounts owned by those people. Can you imagine the waling from those doing the testing at that point? "But we were only doing it to show how FD do nothing!" FD: "But we did something and now you are not happy?"

I have no pain :) and there is no bias. I just disagree with some of Your opinions. Thats all. Its not mean i am biased. It mean i have different opnion about what OP wrote than You.

I do not need to have evidence because SDC delivered it. If you prove something once, then its proven. More evidences will not make it more or less proven.
SDC proven FD is not even watching videos. And also true is FD is lying about punishing loggers. Lets negate that. What should happen with loggers IF FD would not lie? Then they should be punished somehow.
In fact FD do not need to watch video to accept CL report as true or false. They can check in logs and read a text in report.

You are focusing on something in the middle. That is actually logical error, because you should focus on what is at the end, and the end is binary. Combat logger punished, or not punished. Convicted, or not. At the end is some action of FD, or no action.
We can talk about FD actions to punish logger only when condition convicted would fulfiled.

It really no matter FD watched video or not. It really no matter what they did in the middle to confirm a cheater is cheater.

Important is fact they did nothing to punish the cheater - and this is at the end. Actualy FD did nothing. And this SDC proven.

Well, since they have close the tickets related to those videos and the viewcount stayed at zero, it's rather clear they did not watch them, so they actually did prove that video evidence is moot regarding this issue. I'm not saying they don't care AT ALL about videos, we all know that's not true - I worded myself incorrectly there. Bare with me, I'm still at my first morning coffee. ;)

The likely answer to this whole drama drenched thread is that FD doesn't need player video to determine whether foul play is involved. But, don;t let that get in the way of an opportunity to paint FD in a bad light, while having the bonus of beating that special horse, in public, just a little bit more.
