So lets get this straight.. Our commander names are no longer unique?

Rubbish, ED was concieved as PC game. So I'm out exploring and come across a system I have yet to visit, only to find that I have actually visited it, because its got my name on it, even though I've never been there before.

OUr commander name identifies us in the game.. This is idiotic. [wacko]
The chances of that are so low...I'm hysterical over the fact that you are getting worked up over this lol

We're supposed to be unique characters within a big universe. When someone else has the same name it is misrepresentative of your accomplishments - e.g. finding your name tagged on a planet that you've never been to or having your cmdr name listed in the "top bounties" at a station when you've done nothing wrong.

Xbox players and pc / mac players interact when it comes to discoveries, as described by DB here:

from http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-03-06-elite-dangerous-xbox-one-console-david-braben

It's great the E : D is on the xbox - its added a whole lot of new blood, new opinions and made the game evolve however the uniqueness of your character needs to be preserved across all platforms, and not just within each platform.

Yes I know that with the discoveries. But, how do you propose that is dealt with when FD don't have the choice in what names get used? The best solution I've seen in this thread so far is the one about adding a prefix to show which version the CMDR is on... But some have shot that down for some reason and continued complaining about uniqueness when it's beyond FD's control.

Get your CMDR name changed so it has "(PC)" after it if you're genuinely worried about this.

When the inevitable merge of universes between Xbox and PC is made, PC players names take priority.

Sod those nancy wannabe Xbox players and their "Games Consoles".

Ah man really? The chances of that happening...

Turbine went that route with the Founders and Lifetime subs. It led to them selling off to Warner Brothers and then Warner Brothers renegotiating how the lifetime sub was basically no different than active subscribers and had to start subbing to gain the new benefits when it went F2P. Some stuff was grandfathered (like owning previous expansions), but everything from that point on had to be bought.

Wow, what a move. Also a case in point against that recent thread which advocated Braben should sell ED/FD to some bigger company "for the benefit of the game". ROFL.

Wow, this thread, Just. What?

If the late great Douglas Adams would have been writing his novels now we may have seen the following changes....

"Bowerick Wowbagger the Infinitely Prolonged is an immortal being who became immortal after an accident with a few rubber bands, a liquid lunch, and a particle accelerator.
After a period of total boredom, especially on Sunday afternoons, he decided to insult everyone in the entire universe in alphabetical order, and
(and this was the bit he really gritted his teeth and insisted on) depending upon the platform they play."

"Sergio Smegolia?"
"Yes"
"Sergio 'Smeg' Smegolia"
"Yes?"
"PC or XBox"
"PC!"
"Your a jerk Smeg, a complete and total ***hole"

;)

Actually, Michaels's post in this thread suggest that it would have to be the other way round because Microsoft mandates how XB1 gamer tags are to be handled.

What about Mac users? Can PC players interact with them? Are the unique platform names unique across both or are they separated like PC/Xbox too?
