Sell me on the game! Why should I get Elite Dangerus?

Title say it all.

(no speculation answers only confirmed things a direct link to the statement would be nice as well)

What in the game makes it worth buying?

What differentiates from other space games?

Why will it not be repetitive?

What are some negatives of the game?

Who is in charge of the game and what is his/hers experience in other games?

Thanks in advance!

What in the game makes it worth buying? The art alone and the atmosphere area amazing, but the true catch is the ABSOLUTE freedom.

What differentiates from other space games? It has 399.999.800 more star systems, and you can visit them all.

Why will it not be repetitive? Procedural generation has grown leaps and bounds. A good example is FUEL. Bad game, but it has a procedurally generated and very detailed square map of 138Km. Maths are repetitive if you only count to ten, but non-linear maths are pretty interesting, enough for some people to spend their lives on them. Same with PG.

What are some negatives of the game? Meshes could have an up-rez, the insurance is a b<3tch.

Who is in charge of the game and what is his/hers experience in other games? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Braben <- That collosus of a man. I want to wear jumpers like he does! ^_^

I dunno, do your own research lazy

It puts a universe in your PC - biggest sandbox there could possibly be, and lets you decide what your story should be. Not intended as a snarky remark, but think about that for a second. Exploration, piracy, smuggling, mercenaries, trading, mining... heck, you could just go sightseeing if you wanted. The more relevant question for yourself is do those activities appeal to you, and what would you see yourself doing?

There's tonnes of info on various threads for you to look through, and Dante80 has given you some fantastic starting points to research.

The game is about what you make of it ;)

Also if the beta price tag is the thing dissuading you, just buy the release version. You don't have to play the game during its development.

I don't think any one of us should be trying to get you excited via the medium of bullet points. The premium beta is a phase for enthusiasts that have already got excited about this game. If you part with your cash now based on what we say, you might be a bit disappointing as what we have now is still a development build with many place-holders and a huge amount of missing functionality and features. It's also, not what you would call stable.

The people that can see the larger picture are very excited about this title based on the previous games in the series and the quality of the early game-play along with the competence & variety of releases during the alpha stage. I think it's worth watching a few videos on youtube of people playing the game and seeing if it captures your imagination.

A good place to start might be here: https://www.youtube.com/user/FrontierDevelopments/videos

It's heaps of fun :)

Even now in the bug-ridden and uber limited beta build it is already fun and addictive. I know full well that there are probably full wipes coming up in the near future but I still can't resist taking my ship out for a spin and doing the same things I've already done so many times before.

Did I mention it's FUN!?! :D

I've played just about every space game out there (except the previous elites oddly enough) and consider myself something of an expert in disappointing space games.

Having said that, This premium beta has delivered more in its current form that most commercially released titles already imo and certainly has more potential based on great core mechanics.

Remember when game play was valued over graphics in the past? This is like that so far. Flight model is great too. Sound is not perfect but certainly subpurb.

If you have to ask the question then don't buy it.

It's Elite, its a David Braben creation and I didn't need to know more to invest my money in it.

Watch one video of the docking process and ask yourself if you could miss out on the chance of doing it yourself.

When you buy the game go and slide alongside an anaconda and listen to the engines.

Welcome!
I love the game so far. That said, it may not be a good 'fit' for someone who doesn't want to put out effort to learn the game. Although it's not hyper complex (yet some nuances can border on it?) there is a definite learning curve that may not appeal to someone who desires more of an instant gratification return on their participation or is perhaps unmotivated to spend time polishing their experience at how to excel at Elite: Dangerous.
Take a look at the sticky posts in the DDA forum for an idea of the depth and scope of the game's intended design and see if it's for you? :)
Enjoy!

Good to see the community here helping potential joiners better understand the key differentiating features.

But, it would be great if potential joiners give some background as to what they are looking for and what got them interested in Elite in the first place.

Really hard to sell ice to Eskimos.

My suggestion is to google the wikia site and have a look.
