Community Event / Creation Buckyball Racing Club presents: Grom in 60 Seconds (16th - 22nd December)

Finding this exact problem right now :)
Devious little race you've constructed :)

It is, isn't it? Due to budgetary constraints, my Chief Engineer and her team really burned the midnight oil, testing various configurations, trying to get a set of ships that can share some A rated modules. Given the time restraints, they'll be hot swapping a few modules between Dawn and the Deposit. ;)

edit:

speaking of which, I managed to scrape up some Rep with a little catnip in it for the OP.

My racing assembly is finally ready at Sinclair, cmdr Aken B declaring formal indent to rack*ehm*, intent to race:

- the Fast and Furious category will see the Cobra Mk III "Millennium Faulcon" back in action, this time in its pristine drag racing form;

- the Cannonball Run category will be handled by the surprisingly sporty Type 7 "Holy Cow", that with her cavernous hold empty and a brand new 5A thruster has what it takes to leave the slot blazing fast, or take away a good chunk of it if not properly aligned;

- finally for the Gone in 60 Seconds category, the action will be carried out in the brand new Asp Explorer "Binge Booster", may she jump swiftly and away;

Good luck everyone!

Things I have learned tonight:

1) The module swapping I have to do to enter my Type-7 in the race has to be done right the first time, because botched attempts leaves a race entry dangerously close to 15 minutes in length. :S

2) Don't try to correct a misaligned attempt to pass through the mail slot by boosting through it. It doesn't end well. [woah]

3) The difference between a submittable Gone in 60 seconds entry and my best time is three seconds. :mad:

4) Surely there's a star that's 0.17 LY farther than the one I've found. ;)

Last Night in Grom in 60 Seconds Recap
narrated by Mike Rowe

Last night in Grom in 60 Seconds, in the category of Fast and Furious, Commander Stevenson almost loses her Deposit when she forgets that the bridge of a Type Seven is on the bottom for the ship...

In the category of Cannonball Run, Commander Stevenson incurs a fine by clipping an outgoing hauler with the Slave while boosting through the slot...

And in the category of Gone in 60 Seconds, Commander Stevenson discovers there wasn't time to redock and try again when a Type-9 and two Belugas queue all use the slot during one of her runs. Perhaps she needs to start speed docking as well.

Finally, in the category of "Don't Explain the Joke": There are probably over 300 star systems, inhabited and uninhabited, within the jump range of the Dream. eddb.io will only show the 50 most profitable trade routes within a singe jump.

This has been Last Night in Grom in 60 Seconds, narrated by Mike Rowe.

btw, furrycat, has ANYONE submitted a completed race entry yet? I may be "competing against myself," but I still like following the race results.

I have not yet received any entries from anybody. Not even you.

I know. I'm going to start submitting entries, even if I'm not able to complete the Gone in 60 seconds category in the time allotted. The one time I've gotten the run completed in under 60, I went over the 15 minute mark due to heavy NPC traffic. :( I suppose a big fat zero in the Gone category is better than no entry at all.

That will have to be after work, for...

'Twas the week before Christmas, and all through the store,
Shoppers were buying, like never before.
The managers were all working overtime,
Because their staffing was in decline.

Two of my three ships are prepped and ready to go at Sinclair but I might leave the Shiro Tengu out and just run the other two categories. I've been having problems with insomnia this week and at times my co-ordination just goes off a cliff, so I'm going to take a break for today and race tomorrow, with as much caffeine as may be required.
.
I think the tourist beacon in this system is what attracts the Belugas. There seems to be a constant stream (perhaps I should say 'pod') of them leaving the station...
.
Quick question: after making the jump for the Gone in 60 seconds category, is it allowed to either a) call the Fuel Rats b) self-destruct to get back to Sinclair to run the next category in time?

Just in case you've forgotten and aren't jumping to an unscoopable - fuel scoops don't weigh anything :)

I'm planning a low-fuel jump to an unscoopable star with no outposts... if I jump with too small a fuel margin then I won't be able to get to the nearest system. I want to do this step first because I'm finding it difficult to make the jump in the time allowed with my downsized thrusters and distributor: I need a clean, clear run from a good pad and if I don't make it then I will need to abort the jump and start over.

But now you got one from me.

Tell me about it! Just boosted through the toaster with my unshielded asp and... well, bad things happened.

I think I (finally) have a valid entry. So far it has cost a mere 2 Cobras and 1000CR in reckless flying fines :D

Gone in 60 Seconds is the tough one, I think I only just made the start of the jump in time, getting a better pad would help a lot. I might go for this one first, or just hope to get lucky.

Video is uploading, but if this is valid, I make it 23.5km / 4.94MM / 37.29LY

Intent to race!
Meant to do this yesterday and today already, but so far I haven't managed to do anything more than stripping ships down and being annoyed at the slowness of the Anaconda...

Ships (might still change):
Fast and Furious: Cobra Mk. III Destiny
Cannonball Run: Orca Tilikum
Gone in 60s: Asp X RSXRS Falcon

I really hope to have time for multiple serious attempts this week; the concept of this race looks great and the planning/experimentation I've done so far was already a nice challenge! :)

I managed to squeeze in a submittable run between arriving at home and when I have start preparing dinner. It went a little TOO smoothly compared to my usual racing antics. ;)

Gonna put this here anyway, for your amusement. I'v still got fingers scrossed that it's valid.

If someone can tell me what exactly that Beluga was doing there, I'd love to know :D

It's provisional because Inga Stevenson's video was still processing so the formalities of checking it have not yet been done. Asps all round in the Gone in 60 Seconds category, where Polly's distance of 37.9Ly may take some beating. She is also out in front in the Cannonball Run category. Despite a slow start, Brother Sabathius is the early leader in Fast and Furious.
