Community Event / Creation Buckyball Racing Club presents: Grom in 60 Seconds (16th - 22nd December)

YAY! A second entry will be on the way. Got all three improved, and I got the drive engaged right on the 45th seconds on Gone in 60 Seconds. Sooo close, but I popped out in the target system on the 60th second, so fingers crossed that it's not a fail.

I'll get the video uploaded tommorrow and send the screenshots. Now I need sleep.

I was struggling with the conda last night, will have to haul an asp and a clipper over for a safer last gasp run this evening :)

Here's the updated leaderboard!

The final table will of course include points for all categories. Alec Turner will be pleased to notice that despite being in fifth place in Gone he is second in Cannonball, for instance.

0.89LS!
How. Just ... how?

What a fantastic race this is. Major props to cookie (again). If I weren't so busy creating Keelback footage for a "secret project" elsewhere I'd comeback here and get a better jump from the Wedding Anniversary, even if it meant ripping off the damn fins.

Fly far everyone!

As ever the mighty cookiehole shows what can be achieved. that Cannonball Run is incredible. i thought my test attempt getting out to around 4Ls was pretty damn good.

just hope i can sort out shadowplay this evening (and i dont get dragged into wrapping and other ancillary Christmas activities)

The amazing thing is the 37.98 ly. I was already jumping on fumes, turns out his fumes are apparently more fumer(*) than mine.

But hey, also turns out that the Holy Cow is actually quite the racer!

* Yes, I'm aware that "fumer" isn't a word. It isn't, isn't it?

Teaser trailer ...

My camera work is complete and the footage is all now in the hands of the producer. Fingers crossed that our little project makes it out in time for christmas. And yes, as I'd very much hoped, it is possible to use your own SLF as a very effective camera ship. Just a shame that it can only be used to video a very limited range of ships.

P.S. the Keelback boost is my new favourite in-game sound effect.

*sees cookiehole's times and distances*

:O

You are clearly a master at leaving a place in a hurry. I wonder why. ;)

Time to take a break, to see if my Gone destination will be in a more favorable position later. I swear, if it turns out to be perpendicular to Sinclair Port's orbital plane...

*sits seiza and starts chanting*

It can be done.
It has been done.
It will be done.

I may or may not have found a way to "get fumes into the tank" in a relatively easy (albeit annoying, FDev fix the game!) way
Although I completely messed up the scooping at the destination and had to do two jumps on the way back

Hats off on that T7 run! I've had 0.2Ls differences between individual Orca and Clipper test runs that didn't feel far apart from each other, and both these ships are a lot faster in normalspace than the T7

Please don't say there's a bar tab I have to pay after this race aswell! I'm broke!*

Actually, I wonder why there's still money on my bank account. I keep buying stuff, crashing stuff, paying insurance and don't remember the last day I seriously made some money in this game :D

LOL - this ^^^

I still seem to have nearly 100 million credits despite doing nothing but have fun in this game for months. I do wonder at all these people raving about earning a billion credits a week over at 17 Draconis. What the hell do they need all that money for?

P.S. having said that I realise that poor old Inga Stevenson is still struggling to make ends meet. If I could transfer a few million credits across to your chief engineer I'd do it tomorrow!

We may or may not have used a similar way then [big grin], I tried to go for that 37.98 ly place, but never found the right amount of fumes, kudos for the perseverance!
The trip back would also be an invariably two-jumps affair, probably faster than trying to fine-scooping for the right one-jump [hotas]

Why real life can't be like this! I keep buying nothing, doing nothing, and yet the bank account is ever more a barren land of sorrow and lonely tumbleweeds. Actually I don't remember the last day I seriously made some money in real life either. :D (<- that's a grin, but of the bitter kind)

Billion credits a week, eh? You can do that in a few hours although I refuse on principal as it is in my opinion straight up cheating.

I've only burned through one million of the six million I'd managed to save up for the inevitable rebuys. I have yet to lose my Deposit. :)

I am, however, rapidly losing both patience and sanity due to my inability to make that frelling jump without

1) hitting the mailslot, toaster rack, or other ships on the way out
2) within the 15 minute window, thanks to returning to base to try again due to 1)
3) getting the timing right in order to make the jump in the time alloted (I'm usually one or two seconds too late)
4) Shadowplay failing to record my g run! The LAST version of shadowplay was more reliable. :(

email sent in with a new entry for the Null Geodesic, this time in the Cannonball Run category. No matter how I tried, I simply could not overtake Aken B. although I did improve my distance. In normal space my distances were becoming fairly consistent but I decided to see if the Cobra Mk3's ability to clear mass lock quickly would give me an edge in the Cannonball and found that I was getting very different distances in supercruise. My best entry has been submitted but I had attempts where I barely got past 2Mm... there's some kind of knack there but I simply can't figure it out and I'm out of time.
.
Thanks to furrycat for staging the race and good luck to everyone trying to improve your position. I'll probably head to Jaques, next, to get some Travel Guides there in time for Christmas. Fly fast!

Aside from "keep the planet at your back", I didn't apply any particular trick.

It's just the T-7. A superb, pure racing performer. :p
