Anyone used PS-VR on PC with Elite ???

I was wondering if there was something like that given the "Open Source" in the title. If that does in fact become true that should be very cool. I can't wait for this tech to mature, when we have full field of view and 4k panels with zero screen door VR is truly going to be amazing.
That it will. I looked into the upgrade side of OSVR, and found that it's actually not only possible, but has already happened - the switch to 2.0 from 1.3/1.4 involved an upgraded screen, which was previously at 1920x1080/60Hz. Installing a new panel apparently renders the HMD's USB3 port unusable (at least for 1.3/1.4 users,) but the screen was and is replaceable. This obviously makes me a happy monkey. :)

I decided that I wasn't going to play BF1 tonight (I usually play it every day) and would just focus on getting the HDK2 set up and working properly. I made some good progress with all the issues I outlined in previous posts - the fan does work, but it does tend to give me dry eyes, and I've fashioned a little foam cushion that folds neatly into the space where my nose goes and makes everything much more comfortable. I even had time to get my Sidey almost fully upgraded - just 200kcr more and I can afford a class 2A fuel scoop. I was so impressed with the new experience that I decided to wipe my save and start again from scratch. I'm planning to basically play FA-off all the time. It's about time I learned to play with fixed weapons FA-off. Indeed, I was rather surprised that FD changed the default loadout to gimballed weapons - it used to be that you spawned with two fixed pulse lasers. Actually, I was a little (only a little though) disappointed with how easy it is to make money now. I've spent less than half an hour in HIRESes and have made more than 500kcr killstealing from the Feds.

I get hot rather easily and sweat just thinking about being hot so I had a very similar problem. I found that just pointing a fan at my face, preferably from below so it's hitting my fact at an angle gives just enough air flow to keep me from sweating. At one point I thought it would have been nice to have a couple micro fans built into the headset but a fan pointed at me fixed the issue.
I'm a sweaty bloke myself too (well, I'm from the North, with a pale blue tinge to the skin on the parts of my body that never see sunlight) and live in the south-west of Japan, which is about 10-15° warmer on average than my home. Like I said, though, the fan worked a treat angled across my seating position. I've also found that after a while misting stops being a problem - I guess the LCDs operating for more than, say, an hour at a time eventually warms the lenses to a point where the difference between the lens surface and ambient temperature isn't high enough to cause condensation.

I tend to do stupid crap in my Rift all the time just because I can. If you haven't played any of the rollercoaster games that support VR you should. I have NoLimits 2 and while it's not great the experience of riding a coaster is rather intense. I have a 2 degree motion platform for my seat and while it only does 15 degrees of tilt and roll that's more than enough to trick your brain into thinking the coaster is going fast. Just like a real coaster when you get to the top of the first hill you're leaning back, as you go over the top the seat goes back to center and leans forward and even with only 15 degrees you feel like you're gonna fall out of the seat. I use it as a demo when I show VR to friends and always tell them to see if they can hold their hands above their head during the ride. They all smirk and say "uh, yeah, I'm sure, easy" but so far no one has done it. Everyone at some point grabs the sides of the seat as the effect is so good.
Umm... yeah. No. Roller coasters aren't really my thing, which is interesting given how I like trying to make myself sick in VR. :D

I've been tinkering around trying to build a "wind simulator", essentially a fan that would be powered and controlled via USB. The faster you go the harder the fan blows, in a coaster or open cockpit car/plane it should be very cool.
Arduino will work - if you can work out how to poll the speed data from the game client.

While I don't think I'll do that anytime soon I have considered getting a second account that I could use for other things. Right now I'm just not far enough with my primary profile to do that just yet.

Agreed - as simple way I've seen some guys do this is by using the .1 / sub / bass channel. I've seen several setups where someone took the .1 output from the PC or existing sub, split it out to a separate audio amplified, preferably a rather beefy one and then running the fan right off +/- on a single channel. Since the sub channel is low frequency high power there's enough electricity to run the fan and it's speed varies with the level of the sub channel. While clearly not as good as reading real telemetry it seems to be a good quick and dirty way to do it.

Eeeeh guys ... i started a tread on the PLAYSTATION VR :) ... i want nothing else because i also have a playstation.
Want to connect on my PS4 ... AND .... PC

Anyone some good tests already ??

D'oh - sorry my friend, we did kinda thread jack you a bit didn't we? My apologies, as you can tell many of us are passionate about this and when we get on a tangent we just can't stop.

No testing on my side yet, I did mention this to a friend who has PSVR and a nice gaming PC but as he's married with a young son he has zero time to mess around getting this all setup. He got PSVR so he could just plug it in and play, not having to deal with any hacking stuff.

If you haven't already you should post a question/thread in the Elite Reddit and see what you get there. No clue if you'd find more PSVR players or not but it's another good place to get exposure. I promise I won't thread jack you any more ;-)

Oh but have you guys seen StarVR??? It's just.... damn it, I did it again :)

If/when you do try this Lord feel free to PM me if you get stuck. I haven't done this with PSVR but I have done this with Trinus and an Android phone and as I understand from reading the process is very similar.

Hehehe no problem at all ( i used a smiley huh ).

Why does your friend have kids and a PC and PsVr ... i suggest you adopt the kid and let him test (lol). Also a divorse would help him a lot with some quality time with his psvr.

Will try you redit suggestion. Let me know if that kid did grow up and when he tested.

Will let u know if i have news.

Stay passionate and mery christmas in advance

Why does your friend have kids and a PC and PsVr ...

The PS4 came before his son and as he is both a gamer and IT nerd (CEO of a startup tech company) he has the cash for it and used to have more time. His wife also enjoys gaming and they used to play together before his son came along.

...i suggest you adopt the kid and let him test (lol).

Ha! He really is a great kid but I'm not a kid-guy at all. I mean I'm a 10 year old kid at heart but as I had a vasectomy at 27 no kids for me. It's not that I dislike them or anything I just knew I never wanted one so I made sure that didn't happen.

...Also a divorse would help him a lot with some quality time with his psvr.

As his wife is rather fantastic I tell her she should leave him and marry me all the time. He really is a lucky SOB!!

Thanks my friend, same to you. I'll look forward to hearing how the PSVR works for you in the future!

Well I guess I've failed the Turing Test, as my first post appears to be stuck in the spam / you're-a-bot queue.

So yes I've got PSVR working on my laptop, using TrinusPSVR: http://www.trinusvirtualreality.com/psvr/
It runs decently, Laptop is Razer Blade 14 (i7 6700HQ, GTX 1060): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQ73kFn2fVY

This is very much an unsupported hack, so the framerate and so on may get better if they improve the drivers, or if Sony ever releases official support.

As for the experience, I've only ever used the Rift DK2 and PSVR is frankly much much better. Very comfortable to wear. I believe the OLED RGB panels compensate somewhat against the higher resolution Pentile in CV1 and Vive, and certainly with a PC pushing out graphics, it shows the PS4 is the weaker link for PS4 VR games rather than the headset per se. Clarity of text is ok, maybe if I had a 1080 and could crank SS / HMD up it would be better.

As oft said, while sheer fidelity may take a hit, the immersion VR gives is a game changer - completely ruined flat-reality Elite for me.

And this is with the dodgy Trinus hack, low spec laptop, console-VR, and no positional tracking. Even if Sony drops VR support, as long as I can use it on the PC with Elite i'll not feel like i've wasted my money. So yeah, happy with PSVR on PC.

Playstation VR with its own helping processor
If you mean the PSVR breakout box, then it has no extra CPU or GPU processing, it's more for the 3D audio, and splitting the video between the headset and TV (Social Screen), and Cinematic Mode.

@mods: So where's the CAPTCHA checkbox to say i'm a human?

What do you mean by no positional tracking? Is the tracking only relying on the sensors in the headset without a camera as with the standard PSVR setup? So is moving/leaning back and forward tracked in that hack or not?

Thanks stinja !

Wadda you mean with "no tracking" ... can't you look around in PC with the psvr in elite ?

What is your score on the steam vr test ? Can you check ( if u have steam also ofcourse :)

Correct. Only the gyroscopes are currently supported with TrinusPSVR, so any forward/back is kind of a glitch. Some PSVR owners are using the Tobi Eye(?) to get positional tracking on top of.

No worries, I made an account just to reply to your thread, as no-one seemed to answer you, and we are out there playing ED with PSVR ;)

The video should show i'm using the gyros to look about with: it flashes up the right panel as I "look" over there with my head.

I don't recall what the steam test is, but yes i'm going thru SteamVR, and when setting up it said I was a "VR ready", as does the Vive VR test I ran. In-game if I bring up the Steam VR Frame Timing tool, it generally runs fine, with the odd CPU frame drop.

There are at least two other PSVR hacks going on though, one is attempting to do the lights+camera iirc. All the devs seem to know of each other, so hope they may produce something together which is a polished product, as some of the performance may get better as they improve their drivers and integration.

Hi again ... thanks for tour answer !!

Steam vr is a benchmark you can download and install ( official steam product ) can u run that ?

What video are u talking about ? I do not see a link or something :) ... did u reccord a session ? Would love to see.

Whats the glitch part you are describbing with forward backward ? Can u describe.

Almost my birthday ... ;-)

Tried ED today with my PSVR!!

New version of trinusPSVR is available if you subscribe to trinuspsvr. Head tracking works fine via the gyroscopes (looking left/right/up/down). There is also an new option for head movement via PC cam, but still need to try that.
I have an laptop with nvidia, so have to fiddle a bit with optimum settings, but am able to use PSVR on laptop via steamvr.
For headset I use bluetooth headset. Controller is PS4 controller.

Started with the tutorials to learn the controls.

I will share more info if I have played a bit more.

THANKS GUYS ..... Your the best !!!

I checked you video. I noticed some lag when moving the headset and whats on the monitor.

Is that lag only on the monitor or also in the PSVR ? If in the PSVR... is the lag acceptable for you ( not sick making ) ?
Hows the resolution working out for u. Is the quality good on PC in combination with PSVR ?

Yeah that pc cam tracking would be very nice.

Thanks again guys .. and happy new year in advance :)

If you match settings with PC requirements then I experience no lag. But if I turn supersampling above 1 it starts lagging, but laptop with gtx 850M is causing this. Not the psvr or software.

I have a 980m ... hope its enough :)

How is the quality when you are running with settings that have no lag ( sharp / detail / vr feeling ? )

Quality depends on your pc/gpu. You can use the renderTargetMultiplier in steamvr config file to get the sharpest resolution that your PC can handle. As I have a laptop that has lower spec gpu, I can run 1.4 renderTargetMultiplier and other settings in ED not that high and play with no lag. VR feeling is there allright. Maybe somebody with high end pc will post their comments also.
