Off on a year long mission.

You do take some gorgeous pics Cmdr...I need to try and brighten mine as well.

I am currently on day 212 of my journey, and now heading back to the bubble from BP. I was not planning on taking a year to do it but the way things are going it may well take that long!

Good luck with the rest of your journey and congrats on getting your SRV back

Thanks for the comments commanders, I am hoping the next six months go as smoothly and looking forward to grabbing some more great shots to show the wonders of the galaxy. [hehe]

Hello again fellow explorers.

I now have just under 3 months left of my journey and it's all going well so far. Whilst I have not jumped massively beyond the range of Sol (I managed about 12,336Ly at the farthest point) I have concentrated mostly on cataloguing bodies of worth within the systems I have visited, so all the planets and stars (but not the rocks).

I will shortly be turning for home...here is roughly where I am at now:

Finally, I came across this poor soul in depths of the black - a prayer for the departed as I collected this unfortunate explorers data canister.

That's all for this update.

In February I was near your location and having traversed round the whole damned galaxy I find myself near your location again! And my Asp still has the same skin that yours does :)

Here's to you Commander, good work!

Hey hey commanders, this is my last comms check before I go silent in anticipation of re-entering habitable space.

With only 40 days to go before I land somewhere in the bubble I have started for home. This has been a momentous trek and I have missed out on a lot of developments in my year long journey. So not only am I looking forward to tricking out my ship/s with some of the cool looking new ship kits but I also have the whole Engineers thing to get to grips with, enhanced AI pilots and whatever else the Frontier team come up with in the next the month or so.

So, without further ado here are my last screenshots.

See you all in December...really looking forward to stretching my legs on a planet again...this ship is damned cramped despite its size [smile]

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.

I am pleased to announce that on the 23rd of December at around 20:55 I finally touched down on HR-W D1-59 B3's Bottego Base, 1 year after departing. During the course of my year long exploration I visited 2,114 systems racking up 159,300 level 3 scans in the process and travelling 927Km in my trusty rover looking for elements to boost the ships FSD range.

After selling 43 pages worth of exploration data I made 61,777,114 credits but rather disappointingly failed to make Elite status climbing to just 23% of the Pioneer rank.

Looks like I will need to go and visit one of these engineers and get my ships drive modded before heading back out to the black - I have a bit of a learning curve ahead of me seeing as I have not had anything to do with the Engineers since their inception, or indeed anything regarding the game mechanics that didn't directly affect me during my exploration. Just finding my way around the new docking screen layout is a bit to take in at first glance.

So, finally here are a few shots from my last few thousand Ly jumps into Bottego base. Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to follow my progress and encourage me to carry on trekking even when I felt like giving up.

Salutations

'grats on your safe return Cmdr. A few days in the Bubble getting to grips with Engineers then back out into the black ;)

Yeah, probably be a few weeks before heading back out. [smile]

Where did you get the maps from showing your journey? I assumed you used ED Discovery for the software.

Your quite right it is EDD. The maps are an integral part of the software, its the Galaxy_L_Grid map I use, you just choose whichever one you want from the menu bar in the 3D map.

Impressive accomplishment. I'm considering doing my first long-range trip (not as long as yours!), and I'm looking forward to the adventure.

I want to do a trip like this just so my ship looks as battered when I return. I did Distant Worlds but my ship looked nothing like yours (I have a feeling the white paint job reduced the impact of the paint damage).

It looks really cool and worn in :)

If you haven't had a go at exploration yet you will find that until you get beyond 3000Ly that the majority of the systems you visit will have already been discovered. Don't get disheartened - just keep on going. I would also advise getting ED Discovery installed on your machine so you can effectively track your journey. Kit your ship out with advanced scanners and detailed surface scanner to maximise discovery of the systems you visit and make sure you take an Auto-Field Maintenance unit...your going to need it. Good luck on your travels. [up]

Yes, poor thing, she's a bit battered and care-worn isn't she. I have tried giving her a new paint job and decals but the scrubbed look is there to stay by the looks of things. I am going to treat her to some nice new spoilers and bits with the Asp ship kit :D

You're not really, an AFMU is only essential if you want to do a lot of neutron surfing. If you're not planning on that then so long as you're careful it's a luxury. If you make a habit of flying whilst drunker than you can manage or doing silly things then it might delay the inevitable - but your hull and PP are going to be taking a battering if you do that and the AFMU can't fix those.

Hmm, I cannot quite agree with that. Maybe it was the length of time I was out in the black or perhaps I made one or two hard landings, but despite my hull only degrading 11% my modules needed attention several times during the journey. If I didn't have the AFMU I would have had to cut the journey short I think.

I take an AFMU, just to fill an otherwise empty slot, as it doesn't have weight, but haven't used it in over 2 million LY's and over 70,000 systems (or even powered it up). My entire circumnavigation was 635K and 25k systems alone, and only took 2% hull damage, due to my negligence of bumping the throttle while parked at a star. If it weighed anything at all I wouldn't bother taking it.
