Frontier. Please make a PVE mode to this game.

So your assertion is based on the assumption that Open = PvP players, and PvE mode = non PvP players. That's what's confusing me, as I don't see Open as a strictly PvP player mode. There are plenty of PvE players who play in Open because they like the added danger of PvP happening anytime, even if they aren't fans of PvP gameplay.

Very true, and many of us will applaud them. BUT, we have to realise the OPEN mode is a fantastic mode presenting limitless possibilities for cooperative game play, but to many; unfortunately blocked by certain undesirable game play styles.

No play style is wrong, all that is wrong is the lack of play modes catering for certain play styles.

Indeed. I've played in Open, I've played in Group, and I've played in Solo.

Solo is for when I just can't be bothered to be bothered with other people, preferring to go up against NPC's instead. Or just doing the RNGingeer grind, or even just to make things like FSD jumps and the transition from Supercruise to normal space/planetary flight mode go faster, due to no matchmaking shenanigans involved in the process.

Group is when I'm feeling like teaming up with like-minded explorers

Open is just for the heck of it, or 'taking one for the team' to get something done (and it was). Or just some giggles in general.

And I have to add, even if there was an Open-PvE mode, I'd probably still use Solo if I can't be bovvered with human interaction, Group, and even Open.

The question is really, is it worth it for something we in reality already have with private groups. We already have a multiplayer environment with little to no risk of griefing.

Do we really need this 'official acceptance' of PvE multiplayer?

Look at it from the other boot:
You could simply reverse it. What if OPEN mode was PvE only.. and the only place you could PvP was private groups?

I think there would be an equal call to not fragment the PvP playerbase, an OPEN mode that caters for player combat would be very much desired...

It's simply the same thing... PvP or PvE, a missing game mode is a missing game mode.

I'm exactly one of those players, for example. Although I would describe myself as an "Open player" rather than a PVE or PVP player as such since by choosing to play in open, I accept whatever happens, ranging from friendly chats to Turnips In Vultures.

Edit: I can see your point though as many people do see Open as a strictly PvP mode, so I've changed my post to remove the "forced" part.

I agree, it is a matter of perception or misperception but I agree with the gist of what you are saying all the same.

Thanks.

Careful, that's dangerously like sense...

That's perfectly fine though, and if Open PvE were introduced I imagine you would remain in Open PvP just like I probably would?

As far as I can see the introduction of Open PvE seems less likely to draw people away from Open PvP than it is to draw people out from Solo and Private, which is why earlier I was arguing that the introduction of Open PvE would bring the community closer together rather than fracture it. I can't even see where the idea that it would fracture the community has come from.

There seems to me to be three broad styles of play and I'm not going to the terms PvE or PvP as they carry negative and misleading connotations.

So, there's player like me who only play Solo. Call them Soloists. At the other end of the scale there are the players who are happy for combat with other players, call them the Combateers. There there are a third group of players that want co-operative player action but no combat with other players. These are the Co-operatives.

Soloists have Solo in which to play.
Combateers have the current Open in which to play
But the Cop-operative have nowhere. The only modes that exist either remove the no combat desire or the co-operative desire.

Mobius is a stop-gap, third-party solution but it is not ideal, restrictive and should only be seen a temporary.

So this proposed Open PvE mode is for the co-operatives.

Have I got it right, broadly speaking?

Probably, but given how often this very conversation has come up over the past 2-3 years, I really don't game modes changing. Where did the eternal Hotel California thread go anyway?

it's still there. Was active just before Christmas and has gone away for a while, but 'You can check out'....

I'd say you're pretty much on the money!

Oh good. This thread has become so long I've forgotten how it started and how it got here!

:D

Does feel a bit like that!
